Arafat collapsed and went in and out of unconciousness during the night. Arafat has not yet named his successor and its feared that there will be chaos when/if Arafat dies. Arafat have said that he wants to be buried in Jerusalem when he dies, something the israelis say is "impossible".

From Reuters: Yasser Arafat "very sick"

Palestinian President Yasser Arafat's health has worsened sharply and he is slipping in and out of consciousness at his besieged West Bank headquarters, officials and medics say.

Arafat, 75, veteran symbol of the Palestinian struggle for statehood, is "very, very sick", a Palestinian cabinet minister told Reuters on condition he was not named.

Questions over Arafat's health have increased fears of chaos in Palestinian territories because he has not named an obvious successor. Security forces were put on high alert as reports of Arafat's condition swept the West Bank and Gaza Strip.

Arafat won the Nobel Peace prize along with Israeli leaders Yitzhak Rabin and Shimon Peres for interim accords he signed with Israel on the White House lawn in 1993.

There are conflicting reports on his condition. Some say he is in a "very critical condition", others say he is not. What will happen if he dies?

Answer: I consider myself neutral on this particular matter. Arafat meant nothing to me. Im neither pro nor anti. I try not to let ANY propaganda influence me. This is not my war.

I think his death would be significant but i dont think Israels stance towards the palestinians will change. Honestly though who can blame the palestinians they are being treat similarly to the way the jews were in the holocost but unfortunately sharon doesnt see that, he see's terrorist I see people fighting for freedom and a normal way of life

I'd say a new conspiracy would be born if he died from colapsing like this

The conspiracy would be:

"Israel knows that the long standing plans to kill Yasser would cause international uproar. Therefor they disposed of him in a less direct way, trough poisoning"

goto love conspiracy's

Finally the Egyptian terrorist is coming to an end. The man who created the "palestinians." The man responsible for the deaths of thousands of Jews and Arabs. I might sound cynical but Arafat is no diplomat. He has always been a terrorist but for about 15 years Arafat has used the media to change his image.

I think that if Arafat were to die... even though he's a controversial leader, I'll show respect for him as a human being. As he showed respect when Ytzhak Rabin was killed.

And as he is *controversial*, which means not unilaterally bad or good - I hope his enemies will not gloat too loud. That might be an unfortunate spark in the powder keg that is the Middle East.

When he dies, and I hope he feels every painful little moment of it, I would like to know what the disposition of the over 1-billion dollars he withheld from the "palestinian" people is going to be.

Well, if Arafat dies (not that I'd hope any person would die) then perhaps Israel will allow the Palestinians to become a country of their own. Maybe Israel will stop their apartheid tactics, oppression, and murder since Palestinian terrorists won't be as prominent.

...Or maybe it's just wishful thinking.

My take on it is that Arafat's death will be a good thing for the Palestinians. The Israelis at this point in time are refusing to deal with him. A more moderate leader may have a better chance in negotiating peace.

I don't wish death on anyone, but sometimes you have to prune the tree for the rest of it to live.

His death of natural causes will be better all around then death by an Israeli missile.

If he dies there is fear of chaos in the Palestinian territories.
At the same time Israel is at risk of a civil war...
On the Road to Civil War

"Everybody in Israel is talking about the Next War. The most popular TV channel is running a whole series about it.

Not another war with the Arabs. Not the nuclear threat from Iran. Not the ongoing bloody confrontation with the Palestinians.

The talk is about the coming civil war."

The west bank and Gaza prospered under Israeli control. Many schools were built and even universites and schools. The first intifada organized by Arafat in 1987 began the deconstruction of the west bank and Gaza as Israel was forced to respond and put down the rebellion and terrorist attacks.

For 20 years Israel tried to normalize relations with the Arabs living in Gaza and the west bank even giving them the right to vote. The Intifada destroyed all the Israelis had worked for. The west bank and Gaza have become terrible places to live in thanks to Arafat and his intifadas of 1987 and 2001. Israel tried to normalize relations with the Arabs in Judea and Samaria but Arafat insisted on making an independent state and he destroyed the lives of the "palestinians" and many Israelis.

I will not pay respects to a professional terrorist who not only killed Jews but also wrecked the lives that Israel was building up for the Arabs.

Apartheid may exist now. Israel is suppressing the "palestinians" now. Arafat forced Israel to do these things because there were too many terrorist attacks and too much violence started by Arafat in the intifada.

Arafat`s condition is now reportedly stable and he attended to "the morning prayer" this morning. He is weak and his doctor have ordered him to get hospitalized. Israel have said that "He is free to get hospitalized wherever he wants to go." They gave him a "green light".

Analysts say that if Arafat dies it will undermine Sharon`s politics.

strapping on a bomb and intentionally targetting civilians isn't freedom fighting, it's terrorism....simple as that. Personally I won't shed one tear at this terrorist's death...

Sure, freedom fighters who's stated goal is to completely destroy Israel no matter what agreement it signs, and who murder people because of religious laws and lies told to them through the process of brainwashing (which starts at birth).

If he dies a natural death soon, it will be a good thing for the Palestinians IMO. As long as he is alive and in power there, the situation will not improve. He has demonstraited countless times that he cannot be trusted, and that his goal is the destruction of the state if Israel.

Wow there are some sensible people on these forums. Thats cool that yo usee through Arafats lies. It still boggles my mind how a professional terrorist who is responsible for the deaths of thousands of Jews and Arabs is shaking hands with Europe and was with Clinton.

Arafats lies...
Yes that was good, the same they see right through Bush's republican party.

Let's calm down a little before you get out of hand. Arafat is not a terrorist.

Leaders make decisions (once you understand this simple concept, the world will become a lot clearer). Bush made the decision to sentence millions of Americans and Arabs to thiers deaths; albeit with peaceful intentions his advisors messed up somewhere along the way. Just a result of the decision.

Sharon is similar to Arafat in all ways. Bottom line is both Israel and Palestine have corrupt governments, and neither is looking towards a peace treaty.

I also recommend you take your BS somewhere else. Not everyone here enjoys the idea of someone dying.
