You ask "Where did this magic number 10 come from"?
And my answer is, I simply do not know!
Just maybe they are comparing to muzzle loaders that only hold 1 round, or old lever action rifles that only hold a few rounds, or the old bolt action military rifles that hold 5 rounds or the M1 Garand that holds only 8 rounds.
But modern weapons almost always use a 30 round mag as it's base issue.
If the evil ones trying to pass these laws had their way, anything over a muzzle loader would be high cap.
And people say I'm unreasonable...

The men and women guarding these tools have no capacity limit on their weapons, I think I will not limit myself either.
I will not comply!

This is also something that really gets to me. Where did this magic number 10 come from? Why did 10 magically become the "normal number of rounds for every gun"? Why not 11 rounds? 9 rounds? 12 rounds?
]

During the hearings before the assault weapons ban, the president of Sturm Ruger testified before congress that 10 round magazines should be sufficient for all applications. I forget the exact words, but this testimony is the basis for the 10 round maximum.
I've always held that the fastest reload is a second weapon and usually I carry pairs of pistols.

A pretty modest request.

What do you need more than 10 shots for?

I don't think 'need' factors into the equation. There are many things a person may own that they don't need.

Instead, I would ask, what practical benefit does society receive from this legislation? I don't see any significant benefit from this bill. For one, current owners may keep the magazines they have, which means that hundreds of millions, perhaps more, will remain in public circulation. Second, even an inexperienced user can change a magazine in a few seconds. Realistically, its not going to have a great deal of impact on rate of fire.

So for the hindrance placed on tens of millions of law abiding gun owners, what's the net gain to society? Virtually nothing that I can see.

Ive said it before and at the risk of actually helping the anti-gun crowd I'll say it again.

Stop writing bills and proposing legislation rooted in ignorance!!

It doesnt help your cause to parade around such arbitrary restrictions as pistol grips, bayonet lugs and magazine capacities of 10.

If you want thinking, reasonable people to take you seriously explain to them why pistol grips should be banned and then follow through with numbers and studies to back your claim.

You have to treat it as you would a business proposal to a bank or investor.

Okay, 10. Why 10? Why not 15? When the AR-15 was introduced the standard capacity magazine for that rifle was 20. Why not 20? If lethality is so connected with magazine capacity then why not a limit of 5 as most current hunting regulations cap you at 5? Seems it would be a more logical capacity limit than 10.

You cant go around asking for unsupported nonsense while your biggest voices go on national television complaining about "shoulder things that go up" and expect to be taken seriously.

It would go a long way to helping your side out if you simply educate yourselves and articulately explain and support your proposals.

But since you're all a bunch of lunatics grounded in fear and emotion who actively embrace ignorace I suppose that isnt very likley to happen anytime soon.

Just trying to help.

Why do you need more than 10 shots?

Cause most people are bad aims thats why.

IF the left pass any gun control measures that will cost them seats in 2014 there are soaring gun sales, magazine sales which clearly show leftist punidts are lying out their collective butts.

Try to pass a bill when the streets show exactly who supports what.

Right.

It makes for a pleasant day and I'm not having to screw with loose ammunition and reloading at the table out there

Great answer, Wrabbit. I have my share of 30 rd AR magazines and this is primarily my reason when people ask me. It's sounds simple but its a giant pain in the ass to reload after 10 rds. I'm minding my own business having a good day at the range. Simple as that. Slamming around steel and ammo all day takes a little toll on your hands.

As others have stated, a 10 round max doesn't make any sense. Its not going to save many lives unless you have LE, Armed Security, or a CHL holder who's ready and waiting.

By the way, what makes these guns Assault Weapons? Any gun, or almost any object can be used to assault people with. All guns are used for defense and assault.

The government still fears us because we're well armed. They conduct their shady business behind closed doors, and for the most part keeps it low key. Wait till they have no fear and watch how quickly this spirals out of control.

Just because some people don't want to be prepared, doesn't mean others should be restricted from doing so.

The arbitrary 10 round magazine number isn't about restricting your shot count.
It's about control.
It's about making another chip in The Second Amendment. Another chip that furthers the anti's goal of stealing your firearms. Make no mistake, that is the end game. Slowly chipping away at the 2A till the anti's can topple it.
It's not about gun control.
It's about TOTAL CONTROL.

Hey guess what?

Takes the same amount of time to shove a loaded 10 round magazine as it does a 30 and a person can carry more of them!

Doh!.

And that's why I need them.

You're right, and as I said many times the truth of what the anti-Americans want is this

“Our main agenda is to have ALL guns banned. We must use whatever means possible. It doesn't matter if you have to distort facts or even lie. Our task of creating a socialist America can only succeed when those who would resist us have been totally disarmed.” -Sarah Brady

Cause the anti gun crowd wants us to be stuck in the 18th century while they stay in the 21st century.

Yeah tyranny indeed and a nice income stream ontop of the already required federal tax stamp.

ollowing is a summary of the 2013 legislation: Bans the sale, transfer, importation, or manufacturing of: 120 specifically-named firearms; Certain other semiautomatic rifles, handguns, shotguns that can accept a detachable magazine and have one or more military characteristics; and Semiautomatic rifles and handguns with a fixed magazine that can accept more than 10 rounds. Strengthens the 1994 Assault Weapons Ban and various state bans by: Moving from a 2-characteristic test to a 1-characteristic test; Eliminating the easy-to-remove bayonet mounts and flash suppressors from the characteristics test; and Banning firearms with “thumbhole stocks” and “bullet buttons” to address attempts to “work around” prior bans. Bans large-capacity ammunition feeding devices capable of accepting more than 10 rounds. Protects legitimate hunters and the rights of existing gun owners by: Grandfathering weapons legally possessed on the date of enactment; Exempting over 900 specifically-named weapons used for hunting or sporting purposes; and Exempting antique, manually-operated, and permanently disabled weapons. Requires that grandfathered weapons be registered under the National Firearms Act, to include: Background check of owner and any transferee; Type and serial number of the firearm; Positive identification, including photograph and fingerprint; Certification from local law enforcement of identity and that possession would not violate State or local law; and Dedicated funding for ATF to implement registration.

Is it feasible 2 or 3 armed men break into your house?

That's why.

End of Story

So because your affraid, everyone should be?

I can't argue my possition since yours is reality.

Fear seems to be what drives everything from pistols to bio weopons.

So you're afraid of firearms everyone else should be too?

Because you don't like firearms no one else should have them?

ridiculous.

So because you don't understand that some people are evil we have to die when a killer comes around?

I would prefer that people like you just shut their mouths rather than spew nonsense but its your right to be ignorant about the matter.

People like you turn us into victims, people like you enable the killers by making sure there is no way to stop them .

ok so we have one shooting in a movie theater in CO. (central US),
another shooter in a mall in WA. state, (western US), and some kid
who opens fire on kids in a school in CT. (eastern US)

seems very clear that national support of these bills is needed,
and there were hits on west and east coast, and the mid west.

the bill is introduced today as those kids attend school for the
first time since the shooting...

stinks to me...
