Sad thing is most Americans don't realize that we are still as much a subject of The British Empire as we ever were. People remember 1776 but they all forget about the war of 1812 when the British burned our cities and our capitol and had us at their mercy once again. The resulting truce gave monetary and banking power back to British but they don't really talk much about these things in Schools.

why compare it to us?

We think we are a pale example of any nameless European country.

We can thank the UN for that. Multiculturalism, and globalism.

I compare it to the US since I know a lot of Englishmen and they admire the US for reasons unknown. The american culture has greatly influenced England. Take the "chavs" for example. They act like proper Americans.

England used to be a great nation, but now it's a pale clone of America. How sad!

Ok so what about the rest of the UK?

Now to be fair that is just insulting to Americans.

Oh no you don't.

Chavs are an abomination and we won't have any part of that mess..

YOU pull their pants up and smack some sense into them...

uh uh. No way. We have our own problems and the chavs are not one of them.

I know too many Europeans who fall in line when it comes to criticizing the US. The chavs are UK thugs in Urban style clothing.

We dealt with rude boys, hooligans, dock boys, ect.... boots and braces in the 80´s you deal with this now.

Why we all gotta be on different teams?

Don't you see the problem this causes? What if we all referred to ourselves as human being or earthling, instead of american, english, japanese its just one step closer to bringing humanity together.

Of late i have been getting the feeling that Hitler actually won when it comes to Europe in general. America was drawn into a war not of our making in order to secure your freedoms. We gave much to that cause and it would seem you pissed it away.

We are different but come on guys and gals lets just get on for a while eh?
PS Drunk listening to 90's Manchester bands (roses, carpets ect)

well swearing an oath to royalty is swearing to defend and serve them. It is a promise to be a loyal subject. You are not swearing to be a good friend, or a nice guy. You are swearing to carry their banner (historically) and die for their defense.

I just wanted to point out that when you swear allegiance to them, you are swearing away your freedom symbolically as a loyal subject. I am sure you don't give a crap about the queen. Just saying. It is what it is.

Sucks to be stereotyped by those who have no notion of the way things really are, doesn't it? TOTALLY understand how you feel.

yea i guess thats the way it looks , but the way we see it is if we all swear to the same cauze then we can save out own asses by banding together , and rocking it out like back in the day

Well In School starting at about age 5

We were all forced to pledge an allegiance to the flag of the US and the republic for which it stands. Kind of funny how nobody refers to the US as a republic anymore. We've been brain beaten into the idea that now we are a democracy.

Subject, predicate, citizen or slave , call yourself what you want you are still not a freeman. You are a controlled citizen subjected to a governments will.
Life's to short to whine about what someone calls you.
