I've lived in Austin.
They elected a homeless idiot to the city council.
Nuke 'em.

I think this pretty much illustrates the hazards of party affiliation on the right. They want to nuke foreign countries, they want to nuke brown people, immigrants and they even want to nuke their own cities. What is wrong with this picture?

Austin really isn't Texas, not anymore anyway. It's a place hipsters colonized so they could attend music festivals and go to college. No big deal.

Where as Texas itself is one big oil plantation, basically another Gulf Oil Spill waiting to happen.

And the Bush's Hierarchy's backyard.

Except both parties are equally causing wars in the Middle East. Clinton and Obama have done their fair share of warmongering. Obama has killed thousands of innocent civilians in Pakistan and elsewhere with drone strikes. To say it's a right wing policy is ignorant.

Thank you enlightened one. STAR. I've wanted somebody
to out Illnoise forever. Oh wait..
Please someone, get back on with the author of this--
we may all be paying for it soon. Probably misquoted too:
"The only thing really wrong with democracy is
that the majority is usually wrong."

Besides Juan, getting the bills passed for the appropriation
(ARMED ROBBERY) is the hard part. We'll always find
somebody to pay for it. We're all lining up for it, always.
It's just a metter of which crew gets the bigger cut later.

HA too funny..

From what I know about how Texas feel about Austin they'd be happy to get rid of them.

They just might hold them to it now matter what.

Naah. We have to keep Austin.

Too much fun to be had by laughing at the freaks.

Its like Frye Street Fair in Denton was....just all the time!

As a 512 native I've gotta say.. the majority of you don't know wtf you're talking about. Austin is the most diverse and free to live and express yourself city in Texas. You are scared of change, and it's starting right here in Central Texas! From the inside out, you can't stop us

Got damn hipsters over there. Seceding from the union is too mainstream.
Let's secede from the state that's trying to secede. Bam.

Thanks and right back at cha!

Maybe you are new to all this but the right are Hawkish (you can look it up) It's part of their platform and Obama (on this and many of his positions) is more of a moderate Republican than a Democrat. Everyone but the Tea Party knows this.

By next week petitions will be filed in this order....

1. If Texas secedes from the US and Austin secedes from Texas, than my suburban Austin neighborhood will secede from Austin.

2. If Texas secedes, then Austin secedes from Texas, then the neighborhood secedes from Austin, then my street will secede from the neighborhood.

3. If Texas secedes, then Austin secedes from Texas, then the neighborhood secedes from Austin, then the street secedes from the neighborhood, then my house will secede from the street.

4. If Texas secedes, then Austin secedes, then the neighborhood secedes, then the street secedes, then the house secedes, then my bedroom will secede from my house.

Seriously, we're on to hypothetical secession petitions?

How about we start a hypothetical petition asking the aliens that might invade in the future to grant everyone the right to bear laser arms.

we petition the obama administration to: Peacefully grant the city of Austin Texas to withdraw from the state of Texas & remain part of the United States.
...We would also like to annex Dublin Texas, Lockhart Texas, & Shiner Texas.

Austin wants the beer. Maybe they'll negotiate.

Oh and it's Leslie that your thinking of post below.
He was never elected to city council.
He ran for mayor and got 2000 votes.

And have you been an "Austinite" all your life? Or a "Texan" all your life? If so, it's amazing that you'd say that. Take all of the things about Texas away from Austin and you're not left with much at all. And if you and anyone else hate other things about the state of Texas, take your asses to California. Texas is not all the same and it would boring if it was, it's a very diverse state with space for everyone and it should stay that way; the hicks, hipsters, hippies, and snobs are spread out to every corner of the state.
Everything is in Texas, you don't have to leave the state to vacation.

People forget that JF Kennedy and LB Johnson started the Vietnam war, and R Nixon ended it. Kennedy almost started WWIII with the Bay of Pigs actions and pulling support at the last minute, and with the Cuban missile crisis. It still amazes me that people love Kennedy and both hate and associate the Vietnam war with Nixon.

Alright..you're right. I'm a life long Texan and then an Austinite.
But where the hell would Texans go for Vacation if you took the blue cities
out of Texas? Shoot the whole USA for that matter?
I guess just Dallas. Houston's mayor
is a Democrat, I believe San Antonio's mayor's a Dem.

What are some known Red cities? Waco? Killeen?
And are they places people wanna visit?
I'm trying to visualize what remains if all the blue cities
in the south stayed with the Union in this never gonna happen scenario.

I think if I were the president, how I would address this problem is that people are just being greedy, which is not a fair recent to secede. In addition the 100,000 signers of the petition can move if they aren't happy since that amount doesn't make up but a very small amount of 25 million people that are in texas.

It's just all about greed, people want to take their businesses and slaves and go it alone.

I agree with you. They are just making a political statement.
I wonder how many of them know it is largely symbolic?
