'Old-fashioned Britain gone': Most Brits unhappy at home, consider emigrating

So this is interesting, maybe Great Britain isn't so great anymore. People just don't want to live here anymore.
Rude kids, rude adults, an ignorant regime of posh boys and dirty, double dealing bribe-takers!

A study at the University of Huddersfield polled 1,000 Brits and the results were fairly unexpected.

A new survey has found many middle-class UK families want to emigrate as Britain can no longer offer them a good quality of life. Almost two in three families surveyed want to emigrate due to the economy, weather and a loss of national pride.

National pride is something I haven't felt in a long time, I love my people as much as any other people but we must have some of the most offensive people in the world living here. The BNP, EDL and the NF on our streets at the drop of a hat, preaching about the "Muslims" and Poles taking our jobs. But that's another issue.

With the economic downturn Britain’s living standards have been declining as household bills rise such as fuel, mortgage, and food prices. According to a new research released by audit firm KPMG this week, nearly 5 million workers in the UK are not earning enough to maintain a decent standard of living. The study concluded that twenty per cent of the working population receives less than the minimum wage, which is $13 an hour.

Nearly 5 million workers are not earning enough to maintain a decent standard of living? that's almost a tenth of the population... what about all the people who claim job seekers benefits? The unemployment rate is at 7.9% and the outlook is bleak.

85 per cent of families confessed they wanted their children to grow up in a country “with a stronger sense of community” than they believe exists in the UK. At the same time, nine out of ten British parents said they want their children to live in a country with a less celebrity-obsessed culture and a more optimistic ‘can do’ attitude.

And who can blame them? While we are working 9-5 for a pittance we see the rich, throwing their money around on tv.

The working class is unhappy, this survey says the middle class is unhappy too. More cuts, more taxes and tolls. How much more can we take in this "Big Society" of ours?

Are the people of Britain Reaching the tipping point?

The sense of community that many claim no longer exists in fact does, but it is now found in places like Facebook, Twitter, and of course ATS.

Mass emigration of brits has been going on for 10 years now, it nothing new.

My parents sold up and moved to south of spain 9 years ago.

EDIT TO ADD:
British professionals have been going abroad for better wages, and this gap been filled by mass immigration by professionals who get there degrees in some backstreet 3rd world education system, labour destroyed Great Briton to almost beyond repair.

I started getting out of Britain back in 2004. I still return to see family and friends once or twice a year. They used to think I was mad traveling to so-called third world countries, now they wish they could do the same. All of my friends complain about the state of the country, cost of living, taxes, immigration etc and seriously worry about the future.

The last time I spent any significant amount of time there was a few years ago, for about 6 months. I recently discovered there is a warrant out for my arrest for non payment of TV license. You couldn't make it up. I did have a TV but just used it for Xbox, had no intention of watching the brain dead reality shows and propaganda news, but apparently just owning a TV now you need a license. I always thought it was to help fund the wonderful BBC. I'm thinking I might send a letter explaining I am not prepared to fund an organization which is rampant with pedophilia and sexual abuse.

I couldn't agree more

I love my country but we just don't know our ways anymore, I blame people like Thatcher for destroying our once tightly-nit culture that once held working class people together and now today all of the crap spewed out by all forms of media.

It seems the only people in the emerald isles with the old british ways of culture are not even british, no one lifts a finger to be british anymore too busy watching x factor or some other bull to go out and be part of our culture.

The only cultured ones like of yesterdays world are of yesterdays world the old, the ones who still do Sundays properly with family and friends. Start to lose the basics and you WILL lose your ways

Sorry but I can't see that as good old british culture but they can be good for finding people who think alike about this pile of crap we have found ourselves trying to climb out of hopefully smelling of roses if we get out and it seems a big IF these days

I left the UK years ago. When I go back nothing seems to have improved and many things appear to have gotten worse.

So when Polish, Iranians, Afghans, Iraqis and Somalians come to England for a better quality of life it's unacceptable, but it's acceptable for you to go to another country to do the same?

Great point it's a catch 22 in my eyes, I'd happily stay if this was still british in the sense of the word so then the easiest option is to leave hypocritical I know

The problem for me is not foriegners and their culture (that do tend to be tightly-nit) the problem is us brits forgetting OUR culture and our ways, must of been something put in the water

Nothing wrong with immigrants who come to the UK and work.

Sadly, many if not most Afghans, Iraqis and Somalians jump the housing queue and immediately go on benefits.

Someone is paying for that and it isn't the Afghans, Iraqis or Somalians.

Yeah social media is great for networking but we are more suspicious of our fellow man than ever, you hear of the days when we used to leave our front doors open and our neighbors would just walk on in. but now with the crime rate and everything some are scared of even waving at their neighbors...

If theres a warrent out for your arrest then come back and let them arrest you. Then sue them for wrongfull arrest.
Fact: You do NOT need a license to own a tv. You only need a license IF YOU WATCH A PROGRAM WHILE IT IS BEING BROADCAST! That really is the truth!! However they will make many threats with carefully worded letters that scare the pants of most people, but if you take the time to look carefully you'll always find those magic words "Could - Might - Maybe". I dont own a TV and every month I get letters telling me I'm being investigated and even get letters telling me I MAYBE going to court. I throw them all in the bin.

Back on topic:

Minimum Wage.
With hundreds of unemployed people applying for each job vacancy employers have realised they only need to offer the minimum wage.
Because the minimum wage is so low the employee does not pay income tax, and they need top-up benefits because without the benefits ALL their earnings would be gone after paying Rent/Mortgage payments and council tax etc.
The benefits are needed to buy food and clothes and to pay extortionate electric and gas bills, and to cover the cost of getting to work etc.

Can you see the problem?
We have a workforce that is paid so little it cannot pay income tax.
On top of that the same workforce requires top-up benefits to survive.
If this workforce cannot pay income tax then from where do we get the money to pay the benefits that they need?
Where do we get the money for our national health service and all the other services?

Where is all the money going?
Its in the bank accounts of all those greedy corporations that only pay minimum wage OR LESS because they have a workforce that’s subsidised with benefit money.

I was sitting in a train station and heard four school children (about 15 years of age) discussing all that I’ve written above. I was impressed; I thought the young were too dumbed down to understand.
On hearing their discussion I couldn’t help but think of all the people I see in these forums who still don’t understand what these young kids have already worked out for themselves, that is…

Forcing people into work does not create income tax, it creates a benefit claim!!

If an employee does an honest weeks work for a large corporation such as tesco for example, then that employee ought to earn enough money to provide for his family without the need for top-up benefits.
BUT!!!
Every year we hear of the £billions of profit earnt by these corporations and then we hear the stories about tesco’s etc who not only pay minimum wage but have started laying off full time minimum wage employee’s and started taking on people who are forced to work just for benefits.
This means that the few people who do have a reasonably well paid job and are paying income tax are paying the wages of the tesco employee’s, tesco etc are paying NOTHING!!

Cameron should be locked up.

Absolutely right, and there are probably more than the official numbers show as the illegal immigration problem is far, far worse than any government will admit.

I was just pointing out the irony of moaning about immigration and then becoming an immigrant yourself.

Thanks for the advice
I was amazed by how persistent they are. I hadn't been back for a whole year, stuck my UK sim card in my phone and within a few days had a call from a "collector" telling me I need to get to court quickly and pay the fine before I'm arrested.

The employment situation is a sad situation which doesn't get addressed enough. 1 in 4 under 24 unemployed is shocking. A friend of mine hadn't had a pay rise in 5 years and recently had to take a paycut just to keep his job. Depressing when you see how much everything is going up in prices.

Even sadder is the rise in mental illness. 1 in 10 with depression.

Number one reason was the weather. That's fair enough. The weather gets me down and people would be happier with a warmer sunnier climate, like the one promised with global warming. Instead we get more rain and drier winters, because of climate change.

Still we are lucky in general to live here. It could be much worse.

I see this thread is already heading off on the immigration route much to the relief of those who are truly at fault for the problems of this country - the over-rich who hoard an ever increasing disproportionate share of the nations wealth.

I bet if any rich person read the works of Carl Marx they would absolutely agree with his analysis! THINK ABOUT IT Quite ironic really!

Blaming immigrants is a distraction full of mistruths, here's a classic - "they come here and get benefits" . Sorry WRONG nobody from anywhere in the world can get benefits until they have worked here for at least 12 months.

If you really want to get up tight about immigrants then WHO EMPLOYS THEM !!!! .....rich owners of companies that's who, DUH!!
