December 21, 2012 - *something* IS going to happen!

Sure, there's a possibility that some crazy cosmic bleep goes down, but I'd like to hear what others think are some possibilities. Here's a few I have in mind:

On the extreme (and less likely) end - the 12/21/12 thing is used by TPTB to stage an event, whether it be alien invasion, God(s?) coming back, or whatever, where the "2012" thing has ripened the fruit, so-to-speak, of believability. If it's going to happen anytime in the near future as a staged event to bring about the NWO, what better backdrop to do so?

On the more "mundane" end of things, (and highly likely to near guaranteed in some cases), suicide cults, spike in nervous breakdowns, a spike (hard to measure) in epiphanies, and people turning their lives toward more positive things.

There's going to be a lot of _____ going on as a result of the hype, if nothing else.

So ATSers, what are your thoughts on "what's going to happen?" too often many of us say "nothing", in response to those who seem so sure we will be immediately zapped to the 12th dimension by the amazingly narrow "beam" coming out of the Milky Way's singularity, or who believe in some imaginary Mayan "Prophecy of Doom" (which nobody has found any evidence of), etc. But c'mon, *Something* has got to come of all of this, right?

A lot of misled people are going to drink the cool aid

"Something" is going to happen......its called a self fulfilling prophesy.
Will it enough; and it will happen.

I personally don't think it will be anything more than when the Y2K hype was afoot. The next day people were more or less like "cool the power is still on and computers still work".

So on December 22 people will most likely have a similar sentiment "cool the world didn't end think I'll go to Starbucks then come home and play some PlayStation" ...or XBox to keep it fair...or Wii...until the next fortold cataclysmic event that becomes a fad.

If I'm wrong no one will be here to say "I told you so"...so either way...good times.

Regular day except a small percentage of people will be panicking and doing stupid stuff in case they die.

I think it's more likely that the world will end than someone wanting to get starbucks then go play the wii.

Starbucks and Wii, or pillaging looting and rioting in the streets?
I wonder sometimes, that people are just waiting for the incentive to go looney tunes.

This apocalyptic date will be a fun one to watch come and go. ill be ready with my shotty and my good ol kbar.

I was not on board with Y2K as It was too expensive to become compliant. The only thing that failed as the calendar slipped quietly into the new year was my Zippo...No more flints! I've my 2013 summer vacation all planned out and I have zero doubt that I'll be doing anything else but enjoying the trip. I wonder though sometimes, If I had a notion to believe in Dec 21 if that might not change the outcome somehow? I think I'll open up the box on the 25th and the cat will have lived

I like the direction the thread is going - this is what I'm looking for. While i'm no authority to say it won't be extreme chaos or extreme ordinary, i'm hoping to hear opinions of a "realistic" take of what might happen.

This idea by Shaneslaughta of people "waiting for an incentive to go looney..." - I definitely concur with that. Some "on purpose" - others...people "on the brink", not really consciously looking for it, but effectively needing that final straw in order to crack.

I'm personally going to be spending the day with my S.O., just in case. You just never know when all the doom-porn lovers are going to be right. I just hope it doesn't happen. I saw the trailer for Iron Man 3 today, and I want to be around long enough to see it!

In either case, the next day I'll probably be nursing a bad hangover while eating a very greasy breakfast consisting mostly of bacon.


As far as the rest of the world?

There will probably be some kool-aid drinkers out there, there will be some people who will be in their bunkers the night before the 21st, and yet others will continue on like nothing is going on.

My bet is that nothing is going to happen....but then again, you never know.

We as a people of the world have been under great duress for some time now. With this for told date
ringing in my ears for quite a few years...watching everything escalate around the world. Germany wants their gold from the fed, the Spaniards fighting on a daily for jobs and lower taxes.......isn't that the way it is all around the world. poor Asian children and adults working in sweatshops and coal mines for a plate of rice and a fish head.

The bush era tax cuts and outsourcing deals that Potus promised to fix. not to mention troop withdrawals that never happened.

Maybe its TPTB NWO or whatever you wanna call it, pushing for us to annihilate the mass. less people bring more wealth.

they must know by now, if we did stand united as one world.....well GAME OVER for them

Seriously how many people are going to have to rush out on the 23rd and cover Christmas? Most likely they will have to run into their shelters and break out some chocolate for the wife and kids....

On that note, I have to admit, i'm waiting until the 23rd to shop. That's actually been a tradition of mine for years - kind of my own exercise in serenity amidst chaos. I go to one of the nation's busiest malls (Woodfield Mall) and get it all done without panicking or getting stressed, and just kind of chuckle at all the people losing their minds.

That said, there's a small part of me that says holding onto the cash til after 12/21 could prove benficial should chaos break out lol.

Something I'd been thinking...maybe, in the right mindset, some good can come of doom porn after all. Its reminded me a bit to cherish the time with loved ones. I'll be "using" the whole 12/21/12 thing a bit to remind myself - we never know "what if" - be it global cataclysm, a death in the family (or self), or whatever the case may be.

Also - I've fallen behind on my internet acronyms...what is a S.O.??

Something is going to happen on December 22nd. Unfortunately, it's going to be a bunch of panicked, crazy, dangerous people going batcrap nuts in the streets. There will be looting, robberies, attempted suicides lots and lots of last minute end of the world sex, etc, etc. I pray that no one is killed or seriously injured in the chaos that day. Because, come December 23rd, there will be a lot of people sorry and ashamed of what they did the day before.

You need to realize that the Mayans never said that the world would end on December 21st, 2012. They never said there would be anything at all on that date. It's just where they long count calender finally came to an end.

On December 21st, 2012 the current baktun of the calendar ends. A baktun is comprised of 144,000 days. It is part of a piktun which is a series of 20 baktuns. The current piktun does not end until 4772 A.D.

What will happen to modern society is the same thing that happens every time there is a mass panic such as this. Several million people will prepare to survive doomsday. Sales of guns, ammunition, MRE's, and other survival supplies will go through the roof.

Then around January, these same folks will be looking to sell their unused supply of survival goods. And then people like me go on shopping sprees, getting great deals on firearms and ammunition.

I think that things may ramp up as well due to fear and uncertainty. Face it no matter where you live in the world right now things are just not settled, this causes people to go off more and more everyday. Personally I think that it will be more along the lines of intense weather related phenomena and a possible meteor/spacejunk shower gone awry. The date 12/21/12 never has rung a bell with me the way some people see it. I do sense we are going to learn to adapt to climate changes we have never had to deal with before.
