Investigation After Farmer Eaten By His Pigs

A farmer in Oregon, Terry Vance Garner, 70, went to feed his animals last Wednesday but ended up being eaten by them.

His dentures and a piece of his body were found in the pigs’ enclosure by a family member, but most of his remains had been consumed.

The Coos County district attorney's office said that one of the pigs had previously bitten or been aggressive with Mr Garner.

Investigators have not ruled out the possibility that Mr Garner had a medical emergency, such as a heart attack, or was knocked over by the animals before he was killed.

Each of the pigs weighs around 700 pounds (320kg).

Well he certainly fed his pigs, but not in the manner he anticipated.

I did a little research and I discovered that it isn't that unheard of for pigs to attack people and that they will attack if they feel under threat or when protecting a food source or their young.

320kg pigs, as owned by the farmer, can presumably do a lot of damage if they choose to do so. What a way to go.

I will say he strangled the 49 victims first. They didn't die that way, but apparently pigs will eat absolutely anything. Ouch.

That's cause Pigs will eat anything. Notice why wild boars/pigs are so dangerous and considered a pest all over the world? They're dangerous, even a domesticated pig species can and will go feral.

that's why pig farmers keep them penned separate.

one or two hogs per enclosure, and if you have to move them to other locations, you take a stick and whack them along.

Pigs are smart. Kill the people that are trying to kill you.

Maybe he had a heart attack and died. Pigs eat dead bodies apparently. And that's why I LOVE BACON! Cuz in all that juicy goodness you never know what's in it!

Grew up in the country side in a little village (way less than 100 people) that had 5 farms in it, including a pig farm. Lots of farms in between us and next villages also, again with a few pig farms. As kids growing up in such a place you naturally play in the fields and do generally stupid things like see how far into the bull field you dare walk and then how hate you dare leave it before running back for the fence!

The one thing we never did though was play with or near the pigs. They look cute but i have never in my life seen a pig farmer without at least one enormous scar from where a pig has gone for them!

I don't really know if it is an urban rumour or if there is some truth in it, but i have heard that your particularly dodgy types own pig farms in order to dispose of bodies - they even eat the teeth!

That's what that serial killer link above is about. yeah, pigs eat everything apparently. He was convicted of murdering women then disposing of them by feeding them to his pigs. The last paragraph says it all....with food advisories given to neighbors of the guys farm because the pork they'd been buying from him may have contained human remains.

I've thought of pigs as cute and cuddly little things too. Hell, like many, I grew up on Charlotte's Web and similar Disney stories. Cute little piggies...

Then of course...I grew up and learned Pigs are Hogs and the only thing cute about the little beasts is the sound their bacon makes on the stove on a cold morning. Who'd have thought that pigs would be so dangerous? It's like the giant Hippos in Africa. The oddest animals turn out to be among the most dangerous, eh?
