I know lots of folk who have a family income in that range. They are certainly not "living large." It depends on where you live. That amount in jerk-water Nevada would be fine. In San Francisco, $200k, for a family of four, might qualify you for food stamps.
You can barely make it on $100k these days... anywhere.
You're just as out of touch. At 55K per year between us we own a home two cars have all the modern conveniences at our house like cell phones and computers and large screen tv's. We eat well and dont buy our clothing at the thirft stores. Where are you that 100 k is poor? Pluheeese.

So does that mean Obama is out of touch too for saying middle income is under $250,000?
But that isn't the point. If someone asks me if I considered myself to be middle income, I would so no. I consider myself to earn less the middle income, and I earn just a tad more the $100,000 a year. I don't believe Romney or Obama are out of touch by saying middle income is less than $250,000.

Everyone wants to believe they are middle class...But this eagerness...has led the definition to be stretched like a bungee cord — used to defend/attack/describe everything...The Drum Major Institute...places the range for middle class at individuals making between $25,000 and $100,000 a year. Ah yes, there's a group of people bound to run into each other while house-hunting.

Well I do it. I dont think of myself as poor. I have a lincoln town car. Bought used but still quite the luxury. True we dont go out to eat too much but I am really an excellant cook and can put out dishes that would put the resturant chains best dishes to shame and we love being in the kitchen together cooking. I raised three boys in that range. Nice to know you think I am living in poverty. I have shoes on my feet and extras in the closet. sheesh, this is so unreal.
With the price of gas we combine outings and I work within 7 miles from my home and hubby works less than one mile away.edit on 15-9-2012 by karen61057 because: (no reason given)

Ill make a 10k bet that a family of 4 could live perfectly well on 100k in ANY american city.
How can you expect a snob like Romney to understand REAL money
I lived in Manhattan. My monthly rent was $3000/month and my tuition was more. I had train fees, storage fees, laundry fees, and food to put on the table. If I had two children going to college, would I tell them one is permitted to go to school, and the other is not? Should they fight it out in a pit like Spartans? Should I send my wife or daughter out to prostitute herself to pay her tuition? That doesn't sound like living "Perfectly Well" to me. And what about Taxes? Does the family live on Ramen noodles, or do they drop out of college? Which fits you perfectly well?

I make that much and there is no way I could afford a house, let alone two cars and all the other toys.
