BERLIN (AP) -- The U.S. Embassy says its consulate in Berlin has been evacuated as a precaution after an employee reported a strange smell from an envelope.

Spokeswoman Ruth Bennett said the smell came from an envelope containing supporting materials for a visa application given to consular employees by the applicant in person Thursday morning.

There's not much on this yet. Ive been watching CNN and I took a picture of their small coverage of this.

It seems a worker fell ill after handling some documents and a white power substance has been found in the area.

Hopefully this isnt anything serious, If I find anything more on this, I'll update

The emergency call reached the police at 11:15 AM local time.

Fire brigade is on site, they have set up a decontamination shower.

Police is trying to install a telephone switch so that people can reach their relatives in the embassy via phone, as mobiles are forbidden to use inside the embassy.

Update 1: It is reported that an Albanian man entered the embassy at 11 o'clock am to apply for a visa.
The female employee who looked inside his passport reported a strange smell and having difficulties with breathing afterwards.

So......I'm predicting the news claims Iranian ties to it.

I'm not above believing that these mailings are also little false flags...to build up sympathy for a conflict.

I could be wrong, I'm just speculating though.

Danish news reports "Moldy passport was to blame".

Translation:

Women got sick

It turned out that the evacuation had nothing to do with the protest against the islam-critic film released earlier this week, but was due to a moldy passport.

The passport eligibly belonged to an Albanian man, and the alarm started when several employees got nausea and had trouble breathing, due to being in contact with the mans visum papers.

It led to 3 female employees was rushed to the hospital

Danish article

Moldy passport? hmmm
