Put your claws away...

It is very hard to infer the inflection or tone of a post through text only. Had I been sitting in front of him and saying that, I would have had a wry little smirk and would have been jovial about it.

For example, I would have had the same tone about me if my mate had said "Reading will win the Premiership this season" and I would reply "Do you really think Reading have got a chance.. C'mon, don't be daft"

You have inferred something mean where nothing mean was said. With that in mind, it is wise not to take upon yourself to try and police other people's comments or be offended on someone else's behalf.

No claws involved, it wasn't an attack, simply a note about how it wasn't needed to be rotten towards the other poster.

Your correct that it's difficult to detect the tone of a post, but saying "think before you open your mouth" generally sounds pretty bad regardless of the tone used. Evidently I was wrong with how I interpreted your post, for that I apologize.

But I won't apologize for the intent of my post, it's not about policing people's comments or being offended on others behalf. If someone is needlessly acting like a dick I'll call them out, Think back to when you were in school, were you the bully, the victim, or the guy that called out the bully? I was the latter. And I still call out those needlessly acting like jerks to this day.

FYI, I was first the bullied and then the intervener.. Not that really means much these days.

And if you think that was someone "being a dick", me thinks you have very thin skin.

Anyhoo, if I caused offence, I am sorry. I don't think the other poster saw it that way, however, as he did reply and didn't seem to bothered. But, if he was in anyway offended by my asking of him to apply some critical thinking before opening his mouth, then I do apologise. I am, however, well within my rights to also call out people who say silly things, as you feel you are within your rights to be "protector"....

That said, this thread is full of conjecture, hardly any of which is substantiated. For example, I asked a couple of days ago for someone to provide a source that the chap was some sort of top dog nanotech engineer. They had apparently read it somewhere.. Still waiting for that..

Reports surfacing that the guy worked at a nuclear lab. Yes I know this is from a tabloid and I know there are lots of theories, but yes this is a conspiracy, and it is real, so I am posting this as relevant, before any possible flaming.

www.mirror.co.uk...

Slain Brit Saad al-Hilli had links to a top-secret British nuclear lab, we can reveal. Iraqi-born engineer Saad, 50, worked at the internationally-renowned Rutherford Appleton research centre in the 1980s. His links to the lab will fuel conspiracy theories about the gun attack which left the dad of two, his wife Ikbal and another woman dead in their BMW in the French Alps on Wednesday. Our revelation follows claims that Saad's family had owned an engineering plant in Iraq, that he was spied on by Special Branch during the Gulf War and that his aerial satellite photo firm worked for the Ministry of Defence. According to an ex-colleague at the Rutherford lab in Didcot, Oxon, Saad worked on a giant particle accelerator which can make radioactive material.

www.mirror.co.uk...

The British family gunned down in the French Alps may have been lured to an ambush by a phone call. Police are examining two mobiles found inside the BMW where three adults were murdered and two children miraculously survived.

Asked whether the murderer could have lured the family, from Claygate, Surrey, to the remote beauty spot near Lake Annecy, prosecutor Eric Maillaud said: “Yes. It is something we would look at.”

This is pure speculation but I'll throw it into discussion for consideration as I don't think it's been suggested yet. please forgive me if it has.

Basically, was this man under surveillance for some reason & in the process of trying to defect using light aircraft with his close family.

Satellite Software communications specialist (apparently a moderate Muslim)
Probable connections with Light Aircraft operators (Did Saad have a Pilots Licence?)
There are a large number of airports in the area (at least 6 within 90 minutes drive)
Caravan left behind but a large number of Travel Bags in the foot-well
As the crow fly's Annecy is en route to Iraq, Iran (half way to Libya)
Annecy is close to the border of two country's Italy & Switzerland (airspace more complicated for interceptions)
Seemingly sloppy but professional hit (was it reactive, unplanned & done in haste)

Undoubtedly Satellite Technologies are now used extensively for monitoring in the Middle East, anyone who knows how this stuff currently works would literally be worth their weight in Gold to......the opposition

What strikes me was the apparent lack of "There's a madman on the loose with a gun" type response from the French police, they may have suspected what was going off, hence the statements "we will find out what has happened" instead of "We will catch the perpetrator, lock your doors"

Possible secret undercover defense contract?

Telegraph Article

France shooting: was Saad Al-Hilli assassinated over secret defence contract? Detectives investigating the shooting in the Alps massacre are looking into whether Saad Al-Hilli could have been targeted over links to the defence industry.

There is growing speculation over the motives for the killings. French detectives are reportedly keen to question work colleagues of Saad after discovering that he was killed while working on a secret contract for one of Britain's biggest defence companies.

Mr Al-Hilli was part of a team involved in an undisclosed project linked to European Aeronautic Defence and Space. The company designs and launches satellites for clients who want an "eye in the sky" for commercial, civil or security purposes.

It was also reported that French police are hunting two killers after discovering that more than one weapon was used in the shootings.

Here's the list of company names registered under the same address at Delta 606, The MOD has offices at Delta 601 an 608.

It does add to the suspicious nature of things, also if they had a house in France how come they were at a caravan park, it was just as far. There are reports it was also a ''last minute'' holiday as well. The guy had put a 'caveat' on his father's will recently too, basically pausing it, possibly due to lack of funds.

Maybe defecting, maybe making a secret deal.

There's a report about his sister running in Iraqi elections in 2005 for the National Party, though currently registered as residing in London, is also reported as being in Iraq. The neighbour said he was worried about his family in Iraq, this would give additional motive for possibly returning to Iraq or establishing stronger connections there.

Sorry, I don't understand, defect from what/where?

What strikes me was the apparent lack of "There's a madman on the loose with a gun" type response from the French police, they may have suspected what was going off, hence the statements "we will find out what has happened" instead of "We will catch the perpetrator, lock your doors"
Does this looks like the work of a madman? It never did, so why start a panic over something highly unlikely to be true?

Well... as stated this is speculation, but Defection as in the Dictionary meaning:-
1. To disown allegiance to one's own country [UK] and take up residence in another [Iran]
2. To abandon a position or association [UK Defence Industry], often to join an opposing group [Hostile Islamic]

True, I actually meant to say "What initially struck me was the apparent lack of.....type response"
However
"....two other attempted carjackings were reported 50 miles away on the same night by an armed gang"
""Current theories are either that the family were the victims of an armed robbery or that they disturbed a drug deal taking place," a police source told Europe 1 radio."

I think consensus is that it was a Hit. So...given that assumption, all that remains is.... WHY.

Probably police, as a key witness they cannot let anyone talk to her before she talks to the police.

Maybe tomorrow morning (France time) we will get some more information.

Breaking from Sky, residents have been asked to leave neighbouring properties next to the shot families house.

They are calling it an exclusion zone.

Police have cordoned off the road surrounding the home of a British family found shot dead in the French Alps.

Sky's Ashish Joshi, outside Saad al Hilli's house in Claygate, Surrey, said residents have been evacuated from the immediate.

He said the reason for the move is not yet known.

"It's possible they have found something dangerous inside and they are not taking any chances," he said.Alps Shooting: Police Cordon Off Family Home

Interesting.....possibly removing something major, evacuation must mean dangerous chemicals, explosives, radioactive, biochemical etc.

Reports he told a friend he was concerned about ''some documents'' (possibly something else) and wanted his house kept an eye on, then said he had ''hidden'' them somewhere instead. Sounds like hiding SOMETHING.

news.sky.com...

A close family friend in the UK has spoken to Sky News and said that two months before their holiday Mr al Hilli suffered from heart palpitations and spent a night in hospital.

The friend, who didn't want to be identified, also revealed that Mr al Hilli had been very concerned about some documents the day before he left for the caravan trip to France.

Other neighbours in Claygate, Surrey, have confirmed that he had expressed concerns about security at the family home shortly before they left. The family friend who has known Mr al Hilli for many years was also asked to "keep an eye on the house" and even offered to take the documents for safekeeping.

Mr al Hilli told the friend: "No, don't worry I've hidden them somewhere inside."

This might be relevant, amongst all the other AMS 1087 etc company names registered to Delta 606, there are also at least 3 Anaesthesia companies registered there.

Looks like a dog and pony show for the press. Exclusion zone? If it were an exclusion zone they'd have removed all the throngs of press from across the street and those peering over the garden walls!
The driveway is also full of cops all just milling around doing nothing, rather than moving the members of the press to a safe distance, which they'd certainly do if they were evacuating neighbours. This whole things seems to stink a little!

Probably evacuating residents so there are no witnesses to the best "clean" that house will have had for a long time.

Although i'm suprised thats not already been done.
