In all the polls I've seen ... Americans say they are NOT better off now than four years ago.
In all the interviews Ive seen .... Obama's shills admit that the country isn't better off now.
But also in all the polls I've seen ... Obama is still ahead of Romney and Obama is expected to win.
Strange but true.

what americans? pretty vague statement...4 years ago, the republicans wanted the auto industry to fail, last year the R's in congress didn't want to pay our bills, so our credit rating got downgraded for the first time, the stimulus provided hundreds of billions of dollars to states to cover their losses. i didn 't see any republican governors refusing that money also 1/3 of the stimulus went for tax breaks, no R's rejected that. during the R's reign, no problem on womens issues, now, the R's voted down the equal pay act, and republican leaders in several states want to make criminals out of women that get abortions, and the doctors that preform them. and the R's answer to our recession??? more tax breaks for the wealthy, more taxes paid by the middle class, voachers for medicare, more tax breaks for corporations, while those same corporations send jobs overseas.
and by the way, that 713 billion dollars cut from medicare was from the fat cats pockets of the healthcare industry they stole from taxpayers, not a dime in services was cut from our seniors benefits...it was, and still is a lie by the R's, that are still showing up in their political ads. and somehow, you want to elect the republicans back into office???....why??...because they didn't finish off the middle class and poor during bush??

Maryland Governor O'Malley fumbled the question and told the truth !

" No, we are not better off than we were 4 years ago."

------------

The lies are NOT working.

Clint Eastwood was correct. 23 million Americans unemployed / underemployed is a

disgrace.

8.3% Unemployment

The price of gas has - doubled - to about $3.90 a gallon !

Our GDP stuck in stagnation at 1.7%.

-------------

The DNC Convention will be a Socialist Palooza.

- Obama is doomed. -

Not so strange...Americans aren't confused...

Consumer confidence fell off a cliff 4 years ago...during the last year of the most recent GOP administration, GWB..

Consumer confidence's second hit (fall 2011) came during the debt ceiling fiasco...ya know ....where GOP Leader Mitch McConnel bragged ""The Debt Ceiling Is A Hostage Worth Taking!" and Leader Boehner said "We got 99% of everything we wanted!!".

Absent the GOP ...Consumer confidence has been climbing

Well first off...to the original poster in this quotation...If you thought it was going to be fixed in 4 years...go back to dreamland...you have no grasp on reality. It took roughly 12 years to recover from the Great Depression...and the pundits and the politicians can dress it up and call it the "Great Recession" to avoid the terrible word...but this was and IS a depression. Those that think there was a magic bullet to recovery are idiots...only time heals such devastation.

To the other poster I directly quoted...What lies? You mean the similar lies the RNC farted out during the convention? Here's a clue...they ALL lie to you because they consider you mentally challenged or just stupid. By the way some of the posters on here respond to MSM bullsh!t...I think they might be right.

The unemployment rate is not going to magically be fixed...another dreamer...talk to me in another 6 years or maybe even 8. The "hope" of the Repubs that this was going to be divinely corrected overnight is no different than the "hope and change" the other turd spewed 4 years ago. Some people are smart enough to know better...apparently...a lot are not.

Price of gasoline. Why not take a course on the economics of supply and demand. The price of gasoline is dictated by the market speculators...has zero to do with who is in the White House...convenient blame game but a stupid lie. Even Fox news has clips of when Bush was in office O'Reilly has been quoted as saying the President has no power over gasoline prices...the clips is pasted all over the net...do your own research before propagating BS.

Now the DNC might be a socialist palooza...but then...more than half of the people that scream "socialist!" have no clue what socialism is...it's their cold war paranoia controlling their reasoning...Again, try learning something. Want to know what real socialism is? Research Denmark, Finland, Sweden and Norway. Here's a news flash...the percentage of millionaires and billionaires per capita is greater than the USA...Oh my!...bet that stings!

Obama is no more doomed than the other turd is. We just don't know who TPTB have selected yet...but rest assured...they have chosen a winner and they do not care how much we argue with each other...as a matter of fact, that is the whole point...a nation divided cannot stand.

I'm not voting for either of these turd losers...they both suck. I have my ideals and philosophies and they are entirely based on freedom and personal responsibility...do not parrot that is what the GOP is for...when they stop trying to legislate morality and reduce the police state...I might start to listen. I was a Republican for years...and they have completely lost their way...I am a Libertarian...Fiscally conservative and socially free...try it...it is far more genuine than the GOP's or the Dems crock of crap...

We are not waiting 6 to 8 years for a pie in the sky recovery in your mind.

Obama is 1 term president. He is incompetent.

You can pretend you are not going to wait all you want...not going to change the facts it is going to take until 2017 or 2019 to make a full recovery. Saying you are not going to wait is like smashing the windows out at a restaurant because it's taking to long for your meal to arrive. It's going to take what it takes. We are a bunch of spoiled children here in the USA "Whaa! I said I wanted it now!" (Which is why public and private debt combined is something like 50 trillion dollars) Again...thinking that the worst economic collapse in nearly a hundred years was going to immediately be corrected is a mental condition. I think they make meds for that.

But please, feel free to continue spewing lies and "hope"...your opinion in this election means just as much as mine does....zero. The best puppet for the job has already been selected...they are just dragging this out to November to make you think you have a voice and a choice...you don't...so get over it.

"Hope for change" all you want...(wait...I think I heard that dribble before)

All of the Obama people look incredibly weak whenever the question is asked.

- Are we better off now than when we were 4 years ago ? -

The answer is - No ! -

Our National Debt just hit $16 Trillion today.

Obama has only 1 answer : Nationwide Value Added Tax

Look dude, I don't want to argue with you. I don't want Obama re-elected either. His policies of security (Renewing the Patriot Act, NDAA and HR347) make my brain bleed. I don't like being told I "have" to buy a product from a private business (aka Obamacare...which is also "Romneycare).

My point was...it's all BS. Had McCain won, there would be no difference in the conditions today...might even be worse. Romney is not talking specific policy...he says "trust me"...coming from a politician/business man...that translates to "F@ck you". But even if he did, I don't see him rescinding the above mentioned security acts...even if he were to overturn Obamacare (which I doubt he will) he is not going to give back the freedoms we have already let them take away...he's not going to do it.

Expert analysis in the fall of 2007 and early 2008 predicted a decade or more for recovery. All the politicians did was tell a endless stream of lies to get votes. I trust the economists waaay more than the politicians. I took their analysis, digested it and settled myself into the fact it was going to be a long road...I suggest others see past the bullsh!t and do the same...there is no magic wand or divine intervention going to fix our current state of economy...only time and hard work.

I am fine with waiting if the person in charge 'looks' like they are trying. Obama is doing worse than not trying to get the job done he is blaming the boss for his own incompetence.

Presidents (as all government positions) should be 'at will' employees we shouldn't need to suffer incomptence for four years,

Winners lead. Losers blame others.

Obama refuses to take responsibility for his own record.

The alarm bell is ringing today. Our National Debt is $16 Trillion and Obama

couldn't care less.

Why does it seem like nothing seems to be getting better in America?

During Obama's Presidency, we have seen 241 Senate Filibusters(far more than any other time in history) where bills that would easily pass with a simple majority vote were not allowed to be voted on.

here are a few examples:

Republicans repeatedly filibustered a bill to fund health care for 9/11 responders.(H.R. 847)

Republicans filibustered a bill (S. 3816) to stop tax breaks for companies shipping jobs overseas and consequently would keep more jobs in the US.

Republicans filibustered a bill to put thousands of public school teachers, police and firefighters back to work(S. 1723)

Republicans filibustered the Rebuild American Jobs Act which would put 2-3 million people back to work. (S. 1769)

Republicans filibustered the Paying Fair Share Act that would require people with a taxable income over $1 million to pay at least 30% in taxes (S 2230)

Republicans filibustered the Paycheck Fairness Act which would allow women to be paid the same as men for doing the same work (S 3220)

So the next time someone says Obama isn't doing enoigh to make things better,
remember he's working with a Republican Congress that is that is actively working to make things WORSE!

The filibustering will come to an end very soon.

- President Mitt Romney moves into the White House

- Republicans take over the U.S. Senate

- Republicans add to their majority in the House.

Good points! I don't like the Obama policy machine, but I will not argue on a simple point of fact. Nicely stated.

this is for you!

Also, I don't like Romney either...if he gets in, we will be railroaded with a corporatist/Globalist/plutocratic agenda...sorry...it's the truth.

Freedom = $16 Trillion Debt taken off our childrens back

I agree with three out of four of those. The debt is just ridiculous.

4% unemployment...that's good...I predict 2017 for that magic number to return...but we already discussed that one.

Absolutely fewer regulations on small business. There needs to be a level playing field for the new upstarts and the big corporate machines...stop the cronyism and rascalism.

I disagree on American Exceptionalism though. When the Fed took over and destroyed our state controlled education system...we were no longer exceptional. In fact....we are only number one in the minds of the deaf dumb and blind...

Our healthcare is something like 27th place, our standard of living is approx 35th, income disparity is somewhere down in the 50's. We ARE NOT exceptional anymore. To get that title back, we need to do a lot of work...and destroying the middle class is NOT the way to do it. I know...for the true blood patriots, it's better to have the delusion than to face the truth...but until you face the truth, you cannot fix what is broken.

We should defund and shut down the Department of Education.

Turn it back over the the individual states.

I think you should read up on American Exceptionalism.

I "get" that aspect of it, but without substance, it's just the newest political "buzzword". Part of that "exceptional" mindset was a unified goal and vision...we no longer have that do we? Just look at the examples of discontinuity among the posters on this little board...which in a sense is a microcosm of the "big world" philosophies.

take our conversation for instance. Neither of us want a second term for Obama...yet I contend that the average person will know no difference in his life if Romney is elected...and you think he is going to make big differences. So we butt heads and flail at each other...when at the core...we share similar ideas...getting past the froth and onto common ground takes time though.

Herein lies our national problem. We can't get people to stop wailing and flailing long enough to find that common ground...pretty damn sad. I think every American citizen "wants" to be exceptional again...but they are not willing to give anything to get there. "I want mine...and yours too...if I can figure out a way to weasel you out of it"...We have turned in on ourselves like a pack of cannibals...feasting on the flesh of anyone we can pull one over on...truth.

I think more people will run to President Mitt Romney after they see the 3 presidential

debates. That current poll by the Hill already has them running away from Obama and

his failed economic policies.

------------

It's comical to watch Obama surrogates refuse to answer the question.

- Are we better off today than we were 4 years ago? -

The Poll from the Hill.com has given us the truth. --- No ! ---
