Mars Curiosity - Alien inscription

Just noticed this whilst looking at some of the photos posted back by Curiosity...any ideas?



Looks very similar to the maths pi symbol I think.

Looks like scratches in the rock...nothing unordinary

The got tossed around and got nicks in them.

We had clouds today where I live in the morning. One looked just like the Easter Bunny.

Are you sure it was the Easter bunny...and not the mothership shape shifting?!

My guess would be some kind of mineral build up that has created the discoloration. Also, as others have suggested, common erosion forces will create patterns on rock surfaces.

Kids and their overactive imaginations... It's just a rock, your brain is programmed to make sense out of randomness.

The world is what you make it. I see the rock but I also see infinity on the top edge and pi on the facing edge. so while some only get rocks some get infinite pi; I can guess who is nourished.

Why are we all so blind.

I agree, it does kind of look like the pi symbol, but why would aliens be using Greek letters?

could be just about anything, weathering from millenia of dust storms, volcanic activity(like getting tossed kilometers by one of the volcanoes long long long long ago), hit when the rover landed and the sky crane crashed, hit by a meteorite, carved by aliens then left in a crater for no reason whatsoever....i think you get what i'm saying.

Right under the redlined circle you made there is a small 90° like stone peeking out of the sand and left to it lies a Ring IMHO...,see it?

Yea it's just a rock..

But my brain sees this face/head/skull with a smile

Nobody is forcing anyone to read them. Most of us like looking at the "rocks" and really know that they are just rocks. Others enjoy believing they are something other than rocks. It's harmless either way. I can't figure out why so many folks get upset about it myself. There is a slim possibility that someone will find something that is more than a rock. Anyone who doesn't want to dig can get out of the pit.
