I've been glued to nasa tv for the last few days, thanks for posting the pics.

Yesterday they stated that it was warmer than they thought it would be, it could alter the times the rover is run, but the other side of the coin was it would help the motors on things like the arm warm up quicker. I can't wait to hear that it's moving.

Nice, I didn't know that!
I have a great feeling about this mission, I don't know if we'll find signs of life or not, but the journey will surely be awesome..

No matter how much I've learnt about the super impressive on-board mega science lab tech, once I saw this pic I just can't unsee it now!

Gotta love those angry and crazy creationists who always put down science/technology then expect us to "respect" them and thier "religion".

This is whats wrong with the world. Pray for me with your magical mind powers pls

You're wasting more than anyone else here. Wasting our time and bandwidth and your own efforts. Isn't there a wall you should be talking to?

Why does there always have to be one member who makes discussion impossible. Cant that one member just realize their irrational arguement and chill out? This is why thee op should almost get to disallow someone participating in their thread. I may have learned something besides how to look like a fool. Science doesnt disprove god... And god isnt against science.. Thank you op for the informative post.

I find it entertaining that the people who claim to be the most "rational minded" and "logical" or come off as it still bring forth fallacious arguments to justify NASA's existence. I'll post what I posted in another thread to this response:

Red-herring fallacy. Just because some good came out from a government agency whose existence is completely unconstitutional and stands against everything this great country has been founded on, that does not nullify that fact. Unless you people are now in favor of going back to the old days of vigilantism? It's ironic because the same people who defend NASA in this manner are almost always authoritarian in nature and strongly believe against the principles of vigilantism. Fact is, unless we have direct observation of a parallel universe wherein NASA was never created and thus these technologies would have never emerged from the private sector, then there is absolutely no evidence that would point to the fact that these technologies were only possible through NASA.

Instead of using some spin-offs that have been made possible (which is vastly overshadowed by the spin-off technology from military R&D, which is constitutional), why can't you people ever defend justifying the funding of NASA directly and continuously fail to address the fact that its unconstitutional?
edit on 8-8-2012 by Diablos because: (no reason given)

NASA, as a federal government agency, is completely unconstitutional and the entire thing should be scrapped. That is the fact. If you like socialism (that promotes government-funded science), this is not the country for you.

And don't take this as an attack on science (as I'm sure you will judging by your other posts). As an engineering student myself, I love science. But, science is truly best done by the private sector and not the government.

Do quote the part of the constitution that forbids government funded science. I must've missed it.

Why, O why can't we DISCUSS THE MARS MISSION?
Is it really so boring to you people?
Can't you see how awesome it is?

I was thinking the same thing .. I wonder how many times the OPs thread is gonna get side tracked and derailed.

Sure everyone has an opinion one way or another .. why not just drop in and make your statement/question(s).

I personally think this mission is a good Value for 2.5B$. How many Billion do we spend on 'pets' a year ? .. way way more then that LOL.

Proof that Mars was once a planet like ours ( water and ecosystem ) would help to determine our fate as a sister planet dont ya think ?

Every Nibiru or colliding galaxy buff will look at the pics and determine 'something happend' to mars that was once like earth .. but not anymore. hmm..why .. brown dwarf or some fragment of a Neutron star ? Etc..

From what I gather Curiosity has an autoclave or something like that to Burn the samples and take readings as well ( atom to atom thing ). Possible that Mars was part of earth as one big planet that got deadshot by a passer ? .. Who knows until we can unravel the mysteries of the solar system in its current form. We have a system that is/has been disturbed .. but Why is the question..

J.G.

PS. To SpittinTruth .. Your personal attacks on other members in this thread is uncalled for. Suggesting other members as 'Idiots' or 'Delusional' etc. is beyond someone with a spiritual grasp. You should read something from "Khalil Gibran" .. or even Richard Bach's " Jonathan Livingston Seagull" ( Bach's " Illusions: The Adventures of a Reluctant Messiah " is a good one too for beginners ).

PSS. You are not talking from the heart as much as you think .. you are speaking from the mind.. There is hope for you yet as long as you reach your Soul.. speak from there
.. and if you say your speaking from the soul then I would suggest more Soul searching before you speak again.

B&W photos aside, my biggest problem with this mission is the WASTE! Too bad we don't have the same kind of enthusiasm on this planet; or for the people that live on it. We don't have a problem looking for life on other planets, but let's turn a blind eye, to the lives on this planet.

NO! We don't have money to help feed the hungry. We don't have the money to build up the infrastructures. We don't have money to find a cure for cancer. But hey, looky here, found 2 Billion dollars laying around. Let's spend it looking for something that doesn't exist!!!

Get a grip already. Earth IS A SPECIAL place! We are the only people in the universe....because God made it so! I'm not sure why people have a hard time ACCEPTING that??? There is NO LIFE ON MARS, or anywhere else. The only life forms, in this universe, resides on this planet. Therefore, can we PLEASE take care of this planet, before we become like Mars???

Yeah... God just created this huge universe with billions of galaxies with billions of of suns/stars just for the heck of it. Smart God indeed....

And funny how you use your blind illogical beliefs as proof of we being alone which is extremely doubtful. Mars was once much more like Earth, so it could have even seeded the life on Earth for all you know. If it was ever habitable then it was habitable long before Earth.
We used to think that Mars was always a dry desert planet, but now thanks to such missions we now know that was wrong and that Mars had oceans of water.
We also thought the outer solar system was too cold to harbour any water, but guess what?? We were wrong again and now we have found several moons of both Jupiter and Saturn that seems to currently have liquid WATER oceans underneath the ice. How the heck do you know that there is no life there besides your little bible that is full of logical flaws and contradictions.
I bet we would have colonized Mars already if it wasn't for narrow minded christians like you.

And what waste?? The technology we have gotten from space exploration is something we all enjoy in our daily life today. And this is with a tiny budget. If you want to complain about waste, then complain about the budget for military.

Ahhh how telling! You almost sound like someone whose faith is threatened....

From the financial aspect, its really not a lot of money in the grand scheme of things and the technological developments on this mission and others do benefit mankind... Did you not read the PDF? You might also find this site useful in understanding:

spinoff.nasa.gov...

Surely evil man made money isn't needed with your god watching over people anyway, being all powerful and all that...?

Based on your post to star ratio....you're not saying much, 1st. 2nd, if i "almost" sound like something, DON'T ASSUME.

Now, please, do tell me, HOW has science 'benefited' us? I seem to be confused. Last time i checked, science doesn't make the sun shine. Science doesn't make the seeds grow. Science doesn't produce fruit from those seeds. So, HOW again, does science "benefit" us??? Are you telling me, without science and technology, we wouldn't exist? Do you think we would be bored?

On the contrary, my friend! Science is making things worse!!!! Our morals, values, standard of living is NOT better because we have Androids, and cars with tracking devices. YOU ARE FOOLISH in your thinking! The only thing that is needed, on this planet....for you and me, has been PROVIDED for! It's called SEED TIME and HARVEST. Real WORK!

Save all that other non-sense.

I guess you are nostalgic about the "good old times" when Christians burned people alive.
Also funny how you act like Christians have more morals than rest of the population. Funny how most abuse and rapes happened in Christian run child care homes as well.

Maybe you should give up electricity and internet if you think things would be better without science.

Its not that simple by far.. But funny that you think an alternate explanation is something made everything,. What made the maker? You're 'proof' is a book poorly translated numerous times and edited from some old scrolls found in a cave used to control common man more than anything else in history. How ironic.
Sciences proof is more knowledge than can be absorbed by one man which is constantly being refined and revised if necessary, peer reviewed by countless individuals and teams proven through repeatable experiments and multiple techniques.

When did i mention a BOOK? I mentioned SEED TIME and HARVEST. I didnt say ANYTHING about a 'book'. Learn how to READ properly. And, that same 'book' you think is poorly translated, has a set of PRINCIPLES that CAN'T BE CHANGED.

Next time you get hungry.......ask SCIENCE to feed you.

You know what the REAL problem is......we've forgotten the basic necesity for life: FOOD! Nothing else MATTERS! Now, tell me i'm wrong. Do you need 'science' to eat? NOOOOOO! You need a SEED, water and sun. Where is 'science' in that equation, Mr. Know-it-All???

Fact is.....people are lazy, without purpose or reason for existence. You wouldn't need a job....if you WORKED for your meals!

Can't wait to see 'science' in action, when the food runs out from the supermarkets! This will be the result of our LAZINESS. If a man does not WORK, neither shall he eat. Basic PRINCIPLE!!! Learn the PRINCIPLES of our planet...before you think you KNOW something.

There would be NO FOOD for likes of you if it weren't for science. Most likely you would not be alive at all today if it was not for science.

how you going to keep those fruit and veggies fresh for longer than a few days?
edit on 9-8-2012 by yeti101 because: (no reason given)

A smart farmer, would have seasonal fruits and veggies. If farming is all we did, believe me.....THERE WOULD BE PLENTY!!!!!!!!

How would that work in areas where you have winters and only a short grow season??
You seriously lack any kind of logical thinking.
