Russian Muslim 'catacomb sect' faces cruelty charges

www.bbc.co.uk

Four members of a Muslim sect in the Russian region of Tatarstan have been charged with cruelty against children for allegedly keeping them underground.

Police discovered 27 children and 38 adults living in catacomb-like cells in an eight-level underground bunker.

The sect's elderly leader, Faizrakhman Sattarov, had reportedly wanted to build his own Islamic caliphate beneath the ground.

Prosecutors said some of the children had lived there for more than a decade.

Hmmmm, a pretty terrible case of mass child abuse. This guy, Faizrakhman Satarov, seemed to think he was some kind of Muslim prophet, even though that is against the teaching of the Koran. What a moronic and cruel man.

"Officials said the children, aged between one and 17 years, had never left the compound, gone to school or been treated by a doctor, and had rarely seen the light of day."

These kids and adults are going to need some serious help to get close to taking on a normal role within society, I hope they can get it.

Some further detail on the Islamic sect.

The group - known as the "Fayzarahmanist" sect - was named after its 83-year-old organiser Fayzrahman Satarov, who declared himself a prophet and his house an independent Islamic state, according to a report by state TV channel Vesti. Satarov was described as a former deputy to a Sunni Islamic cleric in the 1970s.

His followers were encouraged to read his manuscripts and most were banned from leaving their eight-storey underground bunker which had been dug in the basement of a building, Vesti said.

When religion fades in to the sands of time and thought is ruled by logic and rationality. Both worlds sound scary, we need a middle ground.

Yep, we don't need Mr. Spock in all of us. One is more then enough.

But really, it is very hard for me to understand religion and blindness of humans. (I grow up without religion)
