Northern Europe has some of the highest standards of living, lowest poverty, universal healthcare, universal college and their countries are not falling apart.
They do have universal healthcare- universally bad for everyone when you can get in. They're standard of living does not compare to ours. They don't have universal college, that's why students were rioting in the streets a few months back. If you think they are not falling apart- then I guess you don't read any news. He became an American citizen 35 years ago because our system is preferable

with a 50% high school drop out rate and college students taking remedial reading and math, I find this hard to believe. Look up the stats online on where we stand globally in education. Doesn't back this up.
If the government would allow school vouchers, these poor kids would at least stand a chance at an education. People line up for charter schools. Charter school students get a much better education. If you think our education system is good, you are uneducated.

Vouchers are not going to do anything. The USA needs to revamp the way they teach students... less testing, more hands on. Less memorizing, more experimenting. We need more vocational oriented schools to help prepare for the real world and workforce.

But yes, you are right....it is abhorrent to consider someone of a lesser stature for being mentally ill or otherwise intellectually affected. I have called out others on ATS for this. It seems that as adolescents (when we were more prone to being callous) we became accustomed to "retarded" being an ok term to use, because it wasn't actually swearing and we could usually get away with it.
