Thousands of computer users may be without Internet access tonight after a deadline expired for a temporary fix to a malicious software scam shut down by the FBI last year.

This looks like internet is going down really bad tonight. It's going to shut down tomorrow and looks like as if doomsday were coming. Man doesnt' look that good. Looks like without internet, i might as well play some video games on the PC but not online. Anyone think of this?

"If your computer is still using DNS entries that are pointing to the FBI servers on July 9, you will lose TOTAL access to the Internet. Lots of people.

Lots of people also took the time to read and understand the article before posting.
Some possibly even did a search for the multiple threads on this same topic before creating a new one.

Of course, that hasn't stopped local media outlets from breathless reporting on the looming "blackout."

Actually, the only thing I'd miss would be reading the comments here on ATS. Even the posts by religious people, sometimes even they have some good ideas. Especially their take on people being nice to each other.

But if your computer is infected with this virus then yes, you will lose your connection. But every other computer that isn't infected with this virus will continue working fine.

That article only talks about thousands of computer users being offline. We wouldn't even notice thousands of missing connections really, would we? Particularly as they aren't here to say "Bloody hell I have no Internet connection!" to point it out to us that they are indeed among those thousands.

I'm in New Zealand. It approaching 10pm on the 9th - ie it has been the 9th for 22 hours.

It is not a virus it is a DNS spoof
It is now 10.58 PM Monday the 9th of July here in new Zealand and all is well
take a deep breath and relax
This will only effect idiots with no antivirus / malware protection .
Look at your hosts file & check your dns settings of the adapter you use to connect to the internet
