That's like saying there will be no more television. The government needs the internet. How else do you think they spy on us? Actually, they're not spying...they're just scrolling the facebook home page.

Hey, I'm still here. I guess I'm no threat to the government.

Facebook keeps people preoccupied so they don't research the news for validity. It also gives the government ways of checking on people because people can't seem to understand that Facebook is required to give total access to Homeland security. Nothing on the net is truely private. People are told that but think it's just a rumor even though these places state it in their privacy statement that people have to agree with to join. I guess people just don't read anything.

It is not a virus it is a DNS spoof
It is now 10.58 PM Monday the 9th of July here in new Zealand and all is well
take a deep breath and relax
This will only effect idiots with no antivirus / malware protection .
Look at your hosts file & check your dns settings of the adapter you use to connect to the internet

Well the time in NZ really doesn't matter. It's 11am EST. What I don't understand is, why don't the various virus/malware scanners have a fix for this? Why was it necessary to visit some site online that's approved by the FBI?

I checked the site with a seldom used laptop. It claimed to have checked my system by looking at the HD. How is that possible through my PFW? Shouldn't I have been issued a warning from my firewall and scanning software, requesting to allow access to the HD, to that site?

According to the article I read about this dnschanger issue, those who pulled this off weren't stealing information. They were redirecting traffic to advertisers of their choice and receiving royalties based on the traffic. This was initiated in 2007. Why has it taken so long to deal with this?

Just something odd about this whole thing.

I'm here to let you all know that it is currently 12:38 pm on the 9th of July, 2012 in the Midwest of the United States. And as far as I can see, the Internet is still up and alive. My connection sucks, true...but that can't be helped. No viruses in sight, from where I'm sitting.

The Internet lives to troll another day.

It matters because if this is a time/date bomb then a when a computer hits said time it should be activated.
I am sorry if I have spoiled your view that the whole world revolves around what time it is in the USA but there is a big old world out there

Those whose have the malware on their computer and lose the internet will most likely not be able to fix the problem because the internet is where they would probably find the answer. I suppose they will just start calling everyone they know with a computer.

Good old catch-22

How could you still be amazed by it - you've been on here for 3 whole months!!

I've been clicking on ATS for several years actually.

Further, ATS doesn't have the market cornered on forums and sites that peddle in or cater to people that peddle in doom porn.

Todays story...

‘Internet doomsday’ passes without major incident

Call it the doomsday that wasn’t.
... the aftermath from the ‘Internet doomsday’ virus passed with little incident.

I'm guessing it was Anonymous who made the threat, then. They're always barking their heads off, then only nipping when it gets down to the real meat.

Once again, fail, Anonymous, supreme fail...either deliver the goods, or get out of the game. Although I'd really rather you DON'T sacrifice the exact thing you're supposedly protecting...THE INTERNET.

Could this have been a set up to get us all to go to the DNS-ok.gov website to see if we were at risk and "they" then put some kind of tracker onto our computers? I hope I wasn't the only one who did that.

Oversensationalist. About 200,000 devices around the world are affected. Hardly a "doomsday" virus.

Anonymous had nothing to do with this.
The actual sequence of events is this...

1. A virus runs rampant, infecting millions of computers.
2. The virus rerouts the domain name system of those infected.
3. The FBI takes down the Estonia-based criminal ring responsible, and also takes control of the target servers.
4. The FBI announce to the world that they wont keep the server going forever, and people should clean their computer.
5. Conspiracy theorists go nuts.
6. Conspiracy theorists shout "the world is ending"
7. Nothing happened.

and thats about how 90% of these threads always end. I've been a member since 2005 and I've lost count how many times the world was supposed to end. Guess some peoples lives are meaningless without some doom porn.
