I wouldn't say that. It sounds like people being so attracted to an alternate reality that they recreate it within their minds and convince themselves it's real. Just more evidence about how planet Earth has become Hell. People have even gone so far as to create virtual lives pretending to be whole different people.

When life sucks that bad, it's time to find the reboot button. Update the world's OS.

If you ever talk to him ask him why he cares about the devil and demons so much,,,tell him he is his own self and by paying mind whether actual or fantastical to these topics is only hurting him,,,, he is himself imprisoning himself in his own mind,.,..,.,.,.,.

did they do scans on his brain,,,, could be chemical imbalances,,, could have bumped his head and "tripped some wires",..,,.,.,. could be his subconscious playing off of suppressed memories or fears or day dreams or imaginations,,,could be his subconscious playing literally devils advocate,,,

id love to know what he thinks the numbers he receives mean...

yes, that is what his roommate thinks, that he is somehow possessed especially because of his obsession with numerology. Isn't numerology the language of the devil or something like that?

He did not have a history, but he had just moved in with my friend and he was a very-laid back kid from what I understand. HE was in a down point in his life according to his mom, and my friend believes that he is possessed by the devil or a demon because he thinks that evil will take you over at your lowest point. He was not going to counseling.

Oh, that is so weird! I had a roommate quite a while back and we watched 'The Exorcist' together. I had seen it before (it was an old movie) so I knew what was in it but this movie affected her badly. The next day she started throwing all of our phones out the window and yelling at the neighbors. Over a period of several days she cried alot and talked about the dreams she had about falling down a deep hole and hearing screams, whispers, and cries.

Then she got drunk and tried to wreck her car. Her parents had her evaluated and it turned out she had schizophrenia. She received drugs and counseling but I tell you I was terrified of her. She did have a lot of family problems but I wonder if themovie set something off in her?

The language of the devil is deceit...

Numerology is one of the many occult practices that can lead to mental obsession, and the obsession is often deliberately inspired/ fueled by satanic forces as a means to ensure the isolation and ridicule of their subject. There are also 'deeper truths' relevant to what happens when we get obsessed with something like numerology, but it is a burden to even know about such things, so I'll keep quiet about it.

I will pray for the guy in question - in scripture we are commanded to ''do the work your hand finds to do''. Seeing as I find myself on ATS, and I come across this story - which reminds me of my experiences, I will take it as a work needing attention and remember him in my prayers.

Hello....I was just wondering if this movie was in 3D?
Sorry....I can't remember the source (probably was here lol), but a while back I read that subliminal messages were being placed in 3D movies....and that a LOT of 3D movies were going to be released.
I have noticed a lot of new movies coming out recently are in 3D.
Just a theory.......not saying it's the reason for his behaviour.
(Also, when Avatar first came out....many people became depressed and even suicidal because they wanted to live in a world like Pandora).

Please, leave the mythology out of this. Christianity did NOT cure you of schizo-affective disorder. You are either lying or you were never truly afflicted. god does not cure mental illness. If it can be cured Science and human effort does. Saying that religion was the cure is misleading at best. I know several people who suffer from the illness and a few of them have managed to make their lives better. Not a single one of them was ever cured by taking up a religion. It was the correct medications in the correct dosage as proscribed by a DOCTOR. in combination with great effort on their part to learn methods of coping.

I'm not so sure. The mind is a powerful thing. People have cured themselves of a variety of illnesses by changing the way they think and feel. Shamans have a different approach to shizophrenia as do other alternative healers. Maybe it's a matter of having extra spirits in one's body with them or being too open to other dimensions.

I have noticed that shizophrenics sometimes are in communication with some kind a spirit. One woman I knew told me that the spirit told her things about me. There wasn't any way for her to know anything about me at all, but she had specific details and even predicted a few future events that were right on. She had been having an affair with this spirit who she had an ongoing dream interaction with.

She appeared crazy as a loon to all who met her. She knew that I could see certain layers of reality others couldn't. She called me on it, point blank. I think schizophrenia has many dynamic aspects that psychiatrists aren't addressing. Maybe if the cause was changed/removed, the disorder could be dissolved.

If it were my family member, I'd consult a Shaman or Holographic Kinetics Practitioner first. Maybe both of them!

Science is a crucial part of what we do as humans - but we are not masters of the universe. And yes, some people afflicted with mental health issues can take steps to alleviate their symptoms, but I was not one of them. I became a Christian and after a few months my symptoms disappeared, completely. And they were severe symptoms. I had been hospitalised twice, and had completely dropped out of society. I heard malicious voices, saw visual hallucinations, nightmares every night, had a severe persecution complex and delusions of grandeur, thought people on the TV were talking about me, thought people sang songs referring to me on the radio. I could not socialise, could not hold down a job, could barely even manage to feed and clothe myself because I was so inept when out and about in public.

Don't you dare accuse me of lying on an internet forum. I posted my experience in a sensitive way, with the intention of providing hope to anyone who reads it who happens to be experiencing similar issues - and I should have known that some pillock would come along in pride and arrogance to shoot me down with an attempt to take God out of the equation.

If you had experienced symptoms like I did, you might be glad to hear that sometimes the cure is available via non-mainstream methods. Such as by receiving prayer, having faith and undergoing the process of spiritual deliverance. In my case, the cure came relatively easy - It was a bona-fide miracle. So again - take your closed-minded nonsensical 'no time for God because man and science can do it all' attitude and find somewhere to shove it, because I'm downright offended by the tone and content of your post.

I saw Chronicle and I gotta admit it was very slow and I could never get into it enough to get crazy off of it.

No movies have made me question and shaped my reality like Star Wars, Akira, Paprika, or Ghost in the Shell,
or even video games like Half life 2, Perfect Dark and Mirrors Edge,

and then there's the whole Spiderman, Batman, Avengers etc.. that I base a lot of my real fighting styles off of.

I can see how someone could lose themselves in those ideas. I always maintain the sense of grounded reality when I try and embed these concepts into my life though.

Bingo. ''If the cause can be removed....'' Spot on. Precisely what happened to me. The cause of my symptoms was literally removed. I was staying at the house of a friend in the church I was attending, seeing as I was homeless at the time. During the night he daw two angelic beings suddenly appear over me, and reach out towards my sleeping form. As he watched, he saw a dark amorphous spirit-form being drawn out of my body, then as quickly as they had appeared, the angels vanished, taking the dark spirit with them.

I would love to tell a bit more about my experiences, but I believe I am already running the risk of our mutual friend accusing me of being a superstitious dark-ages monk or something.

Seriously - the afflicted need to hear all sides of the story, because medicine sure as hell doesn't cure schizophrenia. Take it from someone who knows.

I can tell you from experience that I can't deny God or the Devil. In my mind I've had my own personal battles between right, wrong, whats good & whats bad. At one point I also believed Everything revolved around numbers. For a while I believed around 3:15am all evilness was out & about. Now at age 29 I have found the perfect balance of good/bad in my mind, call it a ying/yang. Each person is built differently thus having different triggers whether it may be alcohol, a movie, or drugs. I truly wish you friend finds his balance & hope for the best.

Sounds like this kid made a pact with the devil
to have a some special habilities because the film made him dream and pray he could be like them
or maybe even played with a ouija boards to experiment the paranormal
he maybe learned from friends that those boards can actualy summon something

many people pray to the wrong god asking all kind of questions
and are tricked by a demon who answer them in strange voices

poor kid .. should have know better
not much things to do at this point
except contacting a medium or a priest if necessary

the paranormal side exist .. and the Creator told humans not to mess with it
if people would listen to him more .. earth would be like a real heaven
its because of greed in people that invite the dark side
it then plays deception games on you to trick for for fame, power
and knowledge

Ya he is 18. That's what I thought although I am not very familiar with schizophrenia. I understand they have a common theme that their madness is based around.

That's why you see a lot of kids go schizophrenic when they go into the military. They're already heading that way, but remove them from home, sleep deprive them, add in a lot of stress and they decompensate. And that's the age range they do it in mostly, maybe because their brains are rewiring then for the last time before adulthood.

But yeah, a lot of delusional people have one theme, at least the ones I know. Keep them away from it, and they were nice as could be. I used to do PTSD buddy work, some of the guys were also schizo.

Also used to use a really brilliant machinist locally who was totally schizophrenic, but it didn't affect his ability to function and he wasn't a danger to others, although I would have argued that he was gravely disabled, apparently he never ran into someone who could PEC him. Man, you get Billy wound up, he'd go full-bore. The trick was to focus him on what you wanted done and go before he went off onto his delusions. If he did, man would he fire up. He'd get excited and start clanging, flights of ideas, neologisms, and ideas of reference right out of the text. His bugaboo was satellites that could control your thoughts that were run by the descendants of King Arthur. He could tell you all about Arthurian mind control. Geez you could not shut him down once he got rolling.

Had a prof once that had written a joke paper that Underdog (the original cartoon) was a delusion by a schizophrenic dog. The flat affect, clanging, delusions of grandeur, neologisms, hearing things no one else can hear, taking illicit drugs to compensate etc. It was hilarious.

AS per normal - I am not a psychiatrist, nor am i qualified in in any way shape or form in that area.

With that being said:

Can you guys PLEASE stop using the term schizophrenia so liberally.

Looking at this person and i understand that this is a case of third party information (and i've ignored all the Religious comments (Pro and Con). Psychotic breaks are quite common among the youth, not understanding his past and present i can only make assumptions.

1. Substance abuse (Legal and Illegal) - These can mess with the delicate balance of your neuro-chemisty resulting in what can be seen as psychosis. So we will go down this pathway, as a result, this gent was suffering from some form of depressive state (meaning his mind is already messed up state, possibly due to a neuro-chemical breakdown). The resulting catalyst we will use, is the common use of "E". So hes watching said movie high as a kite, at a point in the evenings event, the neuro-chemical systems go into shock, thus over producing hormones and resulting in an overall manifestation of psychosis. Since the current auditory and visual systems where processing Chronical, it isnt a small leap to suggest his brain (under the altered state) accepted that as reality, thus causing his dellusions to be intertwined with said movie.

2. Psychotic Break - These are simply put, the mental facalties of a human being (or doing?) simply breakdown, exposing the sub-concious. NORMALLY these breaks are generated by specific events and can be pinpointed to such specific events (supressed abuse is a common theme), the same applies as above, except during the 'break point' where the "full exposure" happens, the catalyst itself is an over stimulation of certain glands in the neural system resulting in the same effect as point 1.

In essence it will most likely be the latter. You submitted that he was depressed or suffering from a "Down point", its quite possible he was suffering in silence from additional psychosis, and simply had the break. Or the movie caused his subconcious to re-play a specific traumatic event.

Without knowing the person(s) in question and being at that specific event (the movie) i alas cannot get into much 'personal' detail of potential "failure".

However what i can say is this: "Movies dont cause psychosis, if they did the amount of suffers would have vastly increased with the release of Avatar.".

Show me a kid who's not confused in this day and age and I'll show you a miricle. My lil bro is not all that confused and I'm amazed. He's a rare smart cookie. But most kids including myself (back in the day) are niave, confused, easily influenced, innocent, dumb, sheeple slaves. They've been brainwashed by going to public school to understand and go along with the main streem system. They're zombies basically. So ya a movie might make the odd one go crazy.

I was watch "the walking dead". I found it had a hypnotic effect too. Some kind of weird apocolyptic porn. Like you longed and craved the next show to see and almost experience more post apocolypic fantasy. (I'm not talking sexual at all, I'm just saying like the adventure of a sinario of that nature) Like I found myself (and I'm in my late 30's) imagining what I'd do, how I'd react, etc, etc. Like caught up in the fantasy of the adventure of it the theme of the show. Like how would I survive if that happened? Maybe just a die hard fan, but maybe more. Who knows really? But I recognized this weird phonomina going on and I had to sort of take a step back and think like .... "wow what's going on here???" And when I did that I kinda snapped out of it. But if a show is that riviting then it really draws you in. Just a like more lifelike and it would totally draw you in....

Like move the tv forward say 20 years. Maybe by that time your home projector turns your room into a 3d holodeck. And you maybe even interact with the movie. So like it's a Mission Impossible movie and your the hero's side kick who has to help complete the mission. Like using some kind of similar type of technology to the xbox konnect. Like it follows your body movement to determine what you're input to the movie is. Like you want to shoot the bad guy so you use your 3d holographic gun to do that. etc etc.

So like it honestly won't be long at all until new forms of technology totally hypnotise people. We are already seeing this in many only games like World of warcraft and others that are extremely addictive. The future of all that is just unreal. Like it will totally suck people into a virtual reality. And I think all this stuff is right around the corner. I think within 10 to 20 yrs we'll see some crazy stuff. Like remember the book "The popcorn report". Reread that book. She was DEAD ON. But she just didn't realize the time frame it would take. But I'm sure that stuff is coming. Anyway food for thought.

However there has been a vast number of threads posted about mass hypnosis/subliminal messaging over the years ive lurked and posted. I'll say it again:

"Mass hypnosis doesnt work on the mass population. It can only work if targetted at specific people/audiences. IF you feel your TV is telling you to do x or y, seek psychiactric help immediately."

I stand by that statement 100%.

What you will find is avid fans of books and other litrature (comics also) that are drawn to the same characters and themes (so you with Walking Dead). Some people find "Bonds" to certain characters, the most notable example sadly is Edward from the Twlight series, despite being a psychopathic abuser there seems to be a forming bond between his persona and some women folk. I know some girls that simply "hung onto" each and every book.

Is it hypnosis? Nope.

Its just a case of "liking something", you for instance like the walking dead, you hang out for each episode, becuase perhaps you have a bond to the main character (ive not seen it), or its a perve fest. Either of which way to you its entertainment.

Personally i wouldnt get into a panic unless you are suffering from dellusions pertaining to that specific series or any series for that matter.

Usually movies stir emotions in some type of way, I think that's normal. However, when I watch Melancholia I felt something odd. The movie wasn't what I would call good, fair at best. But the message of the movie was what really triggered me.
I have a deep gut feeling (woman's intuition?) that something like this is coming for us. I felt very overwhelmed. Never has a movie made me feel this way, especially a movie that isn't that good to start with.
I still wonder why I had such a odd connection and reaction with it...
