Wow.

I cannot believe every response in this thread besides mine is someone SWALLOWING this tripe. Nothing about this story rings true at all. It just sounds ripe for inciting anger.
If this is real, there needs to a named school. People need to do something.

If this story is true and its a public school, my lawyer would already be setting up the news conferrence. Its time to decide what type country we want in the future. This starts with the removal of indoctrination of the young.

I SINCERELY doubt this was true, or it would be all over the media. Fox and a few other networks are running a story about a school in DC that held a 'Trayvin Martin Day'. No other mention of anything even coming close to corroborate this entirely unsubstantiated claim that is likely just trolling for hate.

Exactly. A school cannot compel students to wear something outside of a standard uniform or the clothes that they currently own as it may pose an economic hardship on some.

This is typical of all government schools. My Childs friend had her purse stolen during basketball practice at a government school. The school checked their video cameras from the gym and found out who took it. They returned the purse and cell phone without the money that was taken. The school refused to name or turn over the information on who did it to the cops. Even private schools have the liberal left calling the shots. My kids did time in a so called Catholic Institution. Now although we are orthodox Catholics, this school along with their grade school (also so called Catholic) was a bastion of liberalism and agenda driven teachings. When there was a child molester running around the neighborhood trying to pick up little girls around the school they decided (without informing the parents’) to leave the female crossing guards by themselves, some up to three blocks away because they didn’t want to make a distinction between girls and boys. In high school (also Catholic) our children were called and labeled as Neo-Cons for questioning the communist ranting of some of the far left leaning teachers. In college (also Catholic) one of my children did a class assigned paper on the United States Military. His report was given back to him. He was told it was too pro military and it needed to be changed if they wanted credit for it. These are just some of the many examples over 16 years of the communist agenda in schools. The communist left has infiltrated ALL aspects of education.

BULL CRAP!

I do not buy this story for one second.

LOL That's why I said s/he should report it to the news, then we'll all know one way or the other.

I detect a lot of artificiality out of this site as of late.

You know what they say, this site depends on "user generated content"

No way this is true.

I have never owned or will ever own a hoodie. It's not my style. Even 50% participation would have been an enormous feat, much less 100%.

This needs to go to the HOAX forum.

I think such principles need to be fired and changed - if someone doesn't want to take part in some event, it's up to them just don't be part of the uniformed teenagers. It's like punishing someone for not putting flowers anually on some student's photo of an incident that happened with them, let's just say. No it's not normal to be acting like camps, whether someone's unwillingness to show respect can be frowned upon is no principal's business

Schools have become the brainwashing centers for our youth. They are fed corrupted information by people who may or may not be even smarter than the students. In my 4 long years of high school, i only cared about 3-4 teachers because I knew what they could teach me. I started to understand that most of the information taught in school outside of writing and literature is partially total BS. Half the stuff that is written in history textbooks has been falsified because it was written by those that won the war/battle/whatever. History is written by the victor. It takes a strong minded person to come to these conclusions by ourselves.
Our government likes to lie to the people a lot, tell them boring little stories, so we get off their back. Schools these days have become more corrupt than prison systems. The students aren't dealt with properly, the teachers abuse there power and then try to justify it. They try to lock these students in classes all day and teach them things most of them will never use. It's just another way for the banks to make some money off the situation and control large portions of the population, pushing them in ideal directions to support the institution and brainwash them. The same people that own the banks own the companies that provide school foods and supplies like cosco. So they raise prices, get government's to pay for low income children's food, then fill the food with a bunch of crap that isn't good for them and sell it to them with a smile.
P.S. It is common knowledge that only weak minded/stupid individuals are susceptible to brainwashing, like hypnotization. I know this because at the end of my senior year, they chose to hypnotize like 6-8 of my classmates all who i knew to not be very bright. I am fairly positive the hypnotizer chose these students based off how smart he thought they were. It's also the reason you shall see so many of your colleagues who believe the MSM lies. One aspect of brainwashing/ hypnotization is conformity and the idea that it must be achieved, while a weak minded individual seeks this, a strong minded individual moves toward originality.

Where did you all go to school??????

History was only one class a year in high school out of 9 total classes.
What was BS about English? Physics? Chemistry? Biology? Calculus? Trigonometry? Art? Physical education? I can name classes all day long that are not history classes.

I am guessing that your inability to discern that 1/9 is not 50%, you gave up on high school way before it gave up on you.

You must not have passed high school because English is writing and literature. Chemistry is memorizing useless combinations of chemicals. Biology is similar and likes to come across as a more adventurous profession but your really just sitting in a lab all day dealing with bacteria. I was in IB physics my junior year. Most of the stuff I learned in that class I already knew besides using Calculus + physics. I also took an IB calculus class that same year, haven't even touched it since unless im using engineering. . Most classes contain some sort of history lesson whether its intentional or not. Trig is a joke. Art was a joke. I can draw better than most people without opening my eyes. I took a strength and conditioning course every term of high school. I also won a state championship in football. Dont insult me. If you were intelligent you would have realized that most class room rhetoric and agenda's are chosen to stay away from more important topics that could raise issues in society.

Why is the school getting kids involved in political topics in case where the facts haven't even been challenged by the court of law??

Assuming this actually happened, which is pretty unlikely.

ETA: pretty funny that the OP's signature is "Skeptical but open-minded. The people who make things up make it harder to find truth."

That's one thing I find odd about liberals lately - they want people to be diverse, in other words, just like them and all the same.

So where is the proof.

At the very least this would have made the local news if a school had a Trayvon Martin Hoodie Day which REQUIRED everyone to wear a hoodie.

Are we just supposed to believe the OP with no proof??? A story like this should require some type of proof for it to not be thrown into HOAX.

The principal's reasoning was that it was important that the students show uniformity, and support for a fellow high school student that was gunned down.

Does your niece attend the same high school that Treyvon Martin did? If so, was this a memorial event on behalf of the student body for a fallen class mate?

If that is the case, her questioning Treyvon's innocence and her nonconformity could have resulted in violence, simply because of the emotional attachment of the boy's friends, don't you think?

what do you expect, the principal is a product of the american education system.

can't you support trayvon by saying a small prayer and moment of silence and maybe take a half hour from each classroom and discuss what happened.

that's much more productive than wearing a hoodie.

oh, i forgot, it's unconstitutional to pray together or mention God, since monkeys don't pray and believe in God.

You should go back to school
Reading comprehension would show you that Iron said half of history was bull. He didn't say half of anything else, those were different thoughts. So your little 1/9 isn't 50% makes no sense. The way he said it was 50% of 1/9 which is about 5.5% of class.

The subjects themselves would be useful, but not the way teaching works. I had a few good teachers like Iron brought up and I learned 5 times as much from them than all the rest put together. They were the ones who broke the rules. My high school was top 34 in the USA when I was there. I can only imagine people as smart as me in other districts were in an even worse spot.

I digress though, I could have learned way faster and learned real stuff if I had not gone to school. If you havn't noticed the dumbing down of anyone who has an IQ over 120 you won't notice.

You're forced to go to this place, and your brain just shuts off after awhile. There is no critical thinking needed.

All I've done since dropping out besides going into the Army and drinking was making a 2120 on my SAT, and all 99 percentiles on my GED tests. I am now in college, and it's better, but I would be better served just learning alone.

My kids are either going to a special school like I almost went to, or they are staying home with me.
The Army made me feel just like school did. I noticed the same thing. You are not supposed to question society. You are not supposed to question social norms. You are not supposed to know more than your teacher does, and they are not supposed to correct themselves.

You guys are on ATS and you don't even realize the MAIN first step into Mind Control...
Where do you guys think ALL the Zombies come from. The ability to QUESTION goes away.
"You don't have to question, LOOK, we have ALL the answers."
"bu what about?"
"No."

I felt it was wrong ever since I was 4. "I HAVE to go?" "Why?" "So I'm not free?" "I want to learn about fire, but they're making me color pictures of bears." "Why do magnets work?" "I know how Santa works, he flies in the opposite way as the earth spins, that way he can get to all the kids."

School failed me hardcore.
