The man, who had underlying health conditions, was being treated at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh. NHS Lothian says it is dealing with 17 confirmed and 15 suspected cases. The source of the infection is still being investigated. The potential area for infection is estimated at about 44 square miles

The first case was identified on Monday 28 May.

The Legionella bacteria is commonly found in sources of water, such as rivers and lakes. It can end up in artificial water supply systems, including air conditioning systems, water services and cooling towers.

Legionnaires' disease is not contagious and cannot be spread directly from person to person.

It is contracted by breathing in small droplets of contaminated water.

Symptoms include mild headaches, muscle pain, fever, a persistent cough and sometimes vomiting and diarrhoea.

We don't have cooling towers near us, but everyone seems to be coughing, with muscle pain and headaches.

What we do have here is the capital of white traili planes.

i'd imagine some bad hygiene such as at a food preperation factory where the hot water doesn't work and management wont stop production so everyone has to use the cold water which is fed from a tank with dead birds swimming in it

So you have no sources of water nearby? At all? In all of Edinburgh?

But apparently lines 30,000-ish feet in the sky, and which are therefore obviously NOT at ground level, are responsible for this?

Perhaps you could expand on your reasoning for linking this to contrails...since it appears to be new and original research?

LOL - conspiracy? Just # that sometimes happens.

Oh, and if it was contrails.... erm... don't you think the rest of Edinburgh would be affected, and at that, a lot more than a handful of people?

They mean the type of cooling tower that is a common part of a commercial building's air conditioning system, such as the ones in thes photos:

These cooling towers are sometimes on the roof of a commercial building, along with other air conditioning equipment, or sometimes on the ground near the building.

I'm sure many commercial buildings in Edinburgh have air conditioning systems, and many of those will have cooling towers. In fact, this article states that Edinburgh health officials have a list of 19 cooling towers that may be the cause of this outbreak. Water from those cooling towers are being tested, and the towers have been decontaminated to prevent further cases:

Nineteen cooling towers have been treated and health officials believe they have stopped the release of bacteria at source, although it will be next week before results will confirm which business was responsible. Most of the towers are at four different commercial sites in the city.

did you have any actual information to add, or are you just asking questions?

If you understood eth technology yuo are using to try to insult me you might realise that it is nto too difficult to see new threads in any forum of interest on here - ATS's system makes it quiet simple. But perhaps it is still too complicated for you??
