Department of Interior Secretary Ken Salazar said that "no one knows" if gasoline prices in the United States will reach $9 per gallon, and acknowledged that the possibility is outside his control.

"I don't think anyone can speculate what will happen with respect to oil prices and gas prices because they are set on the global economy," Salazar told reporters when asked if gas prices could reach $9 per gallon, as they have been in Greece. "Where it will all end, no one knows.

Both statements right there are blatant falsehoods the simple fact is the global market determines the price of the barrel however this nations energy policy determines the price at the pump right along with regulations followed up by local and state regulation.

$9 is very possible consdiering that one of the issues for the up coming election is "climate change" which harks back to cap and tax.

From that video "if i wanted America to fail" where it said to make energy so expensive to make alternative energy "seem" cheaper.

So is 9$ a gallon possible? YES and most likely.

It is very likely. Petrol and diesel are the equivalent to close to $8 US per gallon here in the UK right now and rapidly rising. Here the majority of the cost is tax (in fact they first add the fuel tax, then charge VAT (value added tax) on top of that total - so we pay tax on tax), and it is a constant mystery to the British population as to why the government keep piling on the tax on fuel and keeping the economy crippled (then the government moans about inflation - inflation that they caused because the cost of fuel pushes everything else up).

You couldn't make it up. Either the UK government is absolutely incompetent (perfectly possible judging by their actions so far) or they know that the usable oil is running out faster than people realise and are thus trying to wean us all off of it so that it is not a instant crisis when it does run out.

Either way, hate to break it to Americans but yes, your fuel will easily pass that price very soon.

...........Which is predicated by the global economy for the simple fact that we import so much of our oil. What you're implying is the same as saying that Americans are free to the extent that we have the right to vote for our president........who is chosen by party leaders in a way that we the people have no control over.

Everyone who is so concerned about a "New World Order" takeover simply aren't paying attention. OPEC was formed in 1960 in Baghdad Irag, headquartered in Geneva, and at that point effectively started a new world economic order because oil production, exports and consumption was reaching an all time high. Regulations and consolidations were in order because of these facts.

Then, with the takeoff of the internet in the early 80's, the switch to 100% e-trading by the NIKKEI in 1990 and the aforementioned facts about OPEC in the 60's, this has been a global economy, NWO style, longer than most members on this board have been alive. No one developed country is a self -sufficient island. The USA included and this includes all the economic variables you can imagine. From the price of a gallon of gas to the fact that unemployment numbers are so high because what were once American companies are now, for all intents and purposes, global companies who exported themselves overseas leaving Americans unemployed as a result.

Taking all this into consideration, yes, $9 for a gallon of gas isn't unthinkable and if the powers that be want it to be so, it will become so and there isn't a damn thing that you, me, or the dead next door can do anything about it. Sorry to burst your bubble but American leaders aren't in control. They haven't been for a long time. The last one who even tried was JFK and look what happened to him.

The price for our fuel is driven by sociopathic greed of vertically stack companies, price fixing by the commodities markets, global demand and also taxes.

Sociopathc corporate greed. They demand the profit, we supply it.

If we took away all taxes on a gallon of gas, guess what would happen... they'd keep the price the same. Remember when propane prices increased so they lowered the volume in the can? Propane costs are down right, they're still only giving us 15 lbs for 87% of the 20lb price.

Why do you think we still run the world on a 19th century discovery using early 20th century means? Because that is what is most efficient? C'mon...

The reason gas is so high in Europe is because the government slaps on a hefty tax per liter.

If the US needs to keep its government afloat without officially raising taxes on the books, all they have to do is raise the price of gas via taxes.

$9? Don't expect it before the November presidential election. After that time, who knows what unpleasant surprises our government has in store for us?

here's an approximation of where each dollar you spend on gas goes:

•Taxes: 13 cents

•Distribution and Marketing: 8 cents
•Refining: 14 cents
•Crude oil: 65 cents

auto.howstuffworks.com...

87% of the cost of Gasoline at the pump has nothing to do with taxes.

You know what is funny? The fact that the GOP SCREAMS about "SOCIALISM" unless it is the BILLIONS in government subsidies to oil industries, THEN they will threaten to shut down the government to keep them...AND when the prices are high at the pump...all of sudden THEY SCREAM it is the Presidents fault for NOT socializing the FREE MARKET energy industry.

Just the kind of greed driven, sociapathic thinking that led to the SOCIALIST BAILOUT of the same greedy goons when they collapsed our economy.

Right of course someone is forgetting the fact that the Government gets a cut right off the top of that and control their leases.

On Average 386,000,0000-400,000,000 gallons of gas are pumped every singe day which is 200,000,000 every single day which adds up 73,000,000,000 for a year.
