Don't waste your time on the Ayn Rand objectivists. Their hero has them convinced they are being stolen from. The best part of it though is said hero had no problem stealing from them when faced with the possibility of losing her money at the end of her life.
And I've known some of these types personally- they will get federal financial aid to pay their way through their liberal arts degrees, small business loans from the government to start a business, then when they are comfortable, they will bitch about all the 'leeches' that get something for nothing...

See, that's the thing. I remember in my teens I was a Dittohead. Rush Limbaugh had a TV show back then. Dear those who don't get it because they never walked a mile in a poor person's shoes.
Growing up, I lived in a household which made roughly 120k a year. Never lacked for anything. I started working in 5th grade with my mother in her office, xeroxing and stuffing envelopes for 4.50 an hour during the summers. I then got my first 'real' job at 16 in 89 and was there 4 years. From that day on, I worked non stop til 2010 in various fast food/gas station/cashier jobs.
In Nov 2010 I lost my job. I have looked everywhere for work and found nothing. Tons of people applying for the same single to two job openings. I moved hoping to make it better. Same situation. Nothing. Zero. Been out of work since then. I DO have a temporary substitute janitor job that I get called in to work when someone gets sick once a few months time. Min wage here is 8.50 for the record.
Today I'm packing my boxes reluctantly to move into housing. Thank GOD this is a crime free small town. A poor small town but crime free. We have one cop working days, one at night. That's it. Do you think I like the fact I can NOT find work after putting in hundreds upon hundreds of apps into places every month to three (whenever the time to hold them runs out, I reapply if they are hiring or not), or I get many interviews and get excited - only to not hear from them til I call later and am told it was given to someone else? Most jobs now tell you right away, "We have a LOT of people interviewing for this position''. That makes you give your best every time - and when you're not chosen over and over and over and over, you feel like a less than human - especially when you worked hard for decades; the only break you took was vacation now and then every few years.
So here's me, going to HOUSING hopefully for a short time til something comes and I can get out and live again. Not all of us want this. But some of us have to accept this humbling time and do what we have to do or die.
Do I mooch? NO. But I'm damned grateful this is here for me right now. I know sometimes we have to step down a lot of levels in order to move up many.
But please. Stop putting ALL of us hard timers into the nasty disgusting 'poor are parasites and should be killed, the losers' category. This HURTS as it is that I have to DO this. I do NOT appreciate being put in to the category some of you have automatically placed on 'welfare recipients'.
It could happen to any of you. I NEVER thought this would happen to me. I ALWAYS worked. Always. Paid my own way 100%. Always.

I apologize for what is going on... it must be tough... Even though you are in the situation, you are at least trying to do something. i just feel like a lot of people just give up easily nowadays. so i applaud you for not giving up.

Romney has decided that poor mothers need "the dignity of a job", even though it means leaving their small children with others - whom Romney will
have the govt pay for.
