I was at a funeral two weeks ago. At the end of the service, just before the coffin was closed, the Catholic priest sprinkled holy water on the deceased and absolved him of "all sins". He was dead and didn't even have to ask to be forgiven, it just happened.

So me being Catholic, presently challenging all that was drilled into me (no not that kind of drilling), I will be absolved of all my sins and will enter the "Kingdom of God". Oh and I also paid my dues being an altar boy for many, many years. Things like that are not so easily forgotten by the guy behind the clouds.

.....btw, "kingdom of God" is the name of the 100,000 seat, three level, western-themed saloon in district 12 of Heaven (yes the same district 12 of the Hunger Games"). I hear they have every brand of beer ever known to mankind.... God has a tremendous sense of humour and loves when his children use their brains to question everything, including his existence. He keeps a list of everything ever said or asked of him, good or bad, and will answer and explain everything at a huge "Welcome to Eternity" convention tentatively scheduled for April 13, XXXX......

Perhaps? I see it more mankind (the majority of whom are sheep (ie follow the herd)) trying to explain the universe. If we (mankind) die, then does the rest of creation? In a sense it probably does (the universe reaches 0K (absolute Zero) and becomes lifeless (or perhaps digital?) and static.

Now USING end times myths, that is a control tactic. Follow Jebus and you too will be saved, only our way is the true way etc... that be cult tactics

We are all on ATS.....so, since I never prefaced this thread with a request to keep comments in one school of thought or another, I will not put down anyone for their conjecture. We are all welcome to our own opinion and as many know, I have some alternative ideas myself. That said...I do not see anything with this or the other quakes that spell man-made or doom and gloom. I see at as mother nature once again reminding us of who is REALLY in charge!

Well, if the Mayans are wrong, I think this quake will prove to be massively studied by geologists for a long while. It's the largest recorded strike-slip mechanism earthquake. Considering that the oceanic crust is thought to be only 5-20km thick*, this rupture was either massively long, or, looking at the aftershock locations, maybe 2 parallel faults. It's strange.

*normally 5-10km, but as oceanic crust ages and cools, it accumulates mantle on the bottom of the plate, therefore the increase to 20km estimated maximum thickness.

The margin is impossibly large. If I said to you “If you walk under that bridge every 188 days a concrete block will fall off and hit you” you would actually have only been hit 7 times out of the 218 – a mere 3.21% chance of actually having anything happen on the 188 day event date.
