Portions of Wilshire Boulevard and Vermont Avenue in Koreatown remained closed today as police continued to investigate a fatal officer-involved shooting of a man suspected in two carjackings.
Officers chased the suspect, a man in his 20s, through parts of Los Angeles for more than an hour Thursday after a witness reported a carjacking at a gas station at Eastern Avenue and Valley Boulevard in El Sereno at 6:16 p.m., said Sgt. Karla Barraza of the Los Angeles Police Department's Hollenbeck Station.
A pursuit of an armed carjacking suspect that wound through the crowded streets of Hollywood ended violently with police shooting and killing the man at a gas station in Koreatown, just feet from a bystander who was pumping gas.
Officers recovered a gun from the vehicle and the suspect, described only as a male in his 20s, died at the scene, Los Angeles police Officer Gregory Baek said.

If the suspect drew a gun, than it was suicide by default. Of course, on the video presented we can't actually see if he had his gun out or not.

Could the person have been scared realizing the position he was in and just froze trying to surrender? I am all for caution when determining the intentions of a percieved dangerous suspect, but they lit that car up. Perhaps if the car was about to drive away then i can see this happening, but being completely stopped, i am not to sure if the actions were justified.

Are you saying you think the police shot the suspect because he was about to drive away? Where did you get the idea that it is legal for cops to shoot a suspect because he's trying to drive away from them?edit on 24-2-2012 by NightGypsy because: (no reason given)

Put yourself in the situation for a moment
How would you attempt to surrender if you had a change of heart all of a sudden?
I would pull over, and try to obey instruction, but sometimes fear gets the best of us, and a potential result of freezing and not following instructions is to get shot 50 timesedit on 24-2-2012 by MDDoxs because: (no reason given)

I don't car jack people.
I don't have to imagine being in this situation.
Evil thug got plugged. That's the end of the story.
