That will all change if Harper stays in office. Most Canadians dont even follow politics anyway. Harper could pass an NDAA bill like Obama and no one here would bat an eyelash.

are canada and australia about to declare war on each other.

canada has a natural buffer to invasion from the west by russia, it's called alaska. and on the atlantic side, it has the u.k., on the south it has the united states.

from the north it has nature, the arctic circle.

it would be foolish and a waste of money to spend billions on something it doesn't need.

saying that, canada should be a paradise unrivalled by any country on earth, it's not, because of the greed and incompetence of it's politicians.

The Canadians are next to the US so they count on us for their defense, thus savings money so the socialists can spend it instead.

Was thinking the same thing... Minus the socialist comment. Being an American I feel I can only talk trash about my own government and boy they sure give me plenty of ammo. But I digress... Our military budget is so inflated I don't think any of our allies need to worry about anything.
Got a proxy war that needs fighting? Call us.
Got a government you need over thrown? Call us.
Got a communist nation eye balling your land? Call us.
Got a word worth fighting like "drug" or "terrorist"... Yup you guessed it call us. We will chase it to every corner of the globe if need be...

Just a word of advice... Stay the hell out of the way once we release the dog's of war. They have no leash...

Nobody is calling America to do any of those things except TPTB

Canucks and Aussies. Two peoples spawned from Mother England. In as different ways as either 2 were from the Naughty Offspring.
We are more alike than not. The difference is Oz is living in an area of the world that is more conducive to potential invasion than Canada is. Unless you see the US invade Canada. That's possible. The Commonwealth would be there though. Including the Aussies. Britannia may not rule the waves anymore but the basis of imperialism is still very much in place. We are one. I, for one, would offer support to Australia ONLY if they want it. Proud, decent people. I only have one beef. When are my Demons going to get back to the glory they had 20 years ago?

Wow, a whole 7 billion more than Canada ?

Geez, I guess the revenues from your carbon tax are working out quite nicely for the Australian government afterall.

That's going to change in the Harper years. About the only thing I actually agree with.

No need to get edgy. Hey, are from Quebec? JOKE, JOKE!

I couldn't resist twisting the knife further... just mirroring the OP's cheap shot at Canada.

I shall defend the integrity of my fellow countrymen, peacekeepers and all !

I really don't think its relevant, I used to be in the Canadian military and it was common practice to compare our military capabilities to Australia purely based on the fact that we are the two most established white-anglo commonwealth countries.

I don't see Canadians watching Australian military expenditure expenditure except to learn about strategies. They implicitly know their interests. These things are handled by each military who have tight budgets and strong allies.

Both Canada and Australia obviously share similar hopes. Obvious reason for friendship.

The China issue is named that by the media. Gestures don't make news.

The China issue and their attempts to subvert poor tribal areas for carbon copy US style 'foreign aid', to make allies and create ports, forces a buffer by standard procedure. This results in a build up. The whole South Asia area has avoided an arms escalation.

You can think about the deals being made, but China is just being Chinese.

The military build up is brought to you by your friendly neighborhood arms manufacture, plus unprovable provocateurs.

Oh no.. not a conspiracy. The foot-soldiers volunteer - subterfuge. Pay = bragging about the victory so alluring you lost your mind.

We don't need to spend a lot on defense. We're known for being peace keepers.
Anyone try's to mess with us, we got powerful allies, who will defend us...
Canada hasn't made a lot of enemy's, so we don't feel threatened.... so why waste money on military, when it could go to better uses?

....*though our current prime minister, is gunnin' towards that direction.. but I think most Canadians don't think it's necessary.*
