There's a lot more than just the OP's study on this thread. Take your pick. Find your own and show us.

No problems, bro.

Wanna start with some from the 1950's and use them as a baseline to search for contemporary correlates?

I'm interested in why this study bothered him/her - I also asked some other questions...this is a forum right?

open discussion and all that?

I'm not interested in finding or showing anything :-)

the Op can answer - or not - it's really not a problem either way

are you the keeper of this thread?

would you like to answer my questions?

:-)

please - by all means - go ahead

Aw yeah.

www.uky.edu...

Beyond its potential effects on women, would exposure to the female sex object gender subtype influence
body perceptions among men? If the female sex object subtype heightens men’s beliefs that women are flirtatious and seductive, this may increase the salience of the perceived characteristics of men (e.g., a muscular physique) to which women are attracted. Thus, such ads may increase men’s awareness of and concerns about their own bodies and thus increase body dissatisfaction among men. Finally, it may be that TV ads that portray
women as sex objects also portray especially attractive, athletic, or muscular men (at least relative to comparable ads that do not employ the female sex object subtype) and thereby cause men to feel insecure about their bodies through social comparison. If this is the case, such sexist ads may exert a similar influence on men’s beliefs and satisfaction with their bodies.

See, guys, advertisers aim to have both genders feel like crap about their bodies. Ah, sweet common ground. Sadly, body dysmorphia is just the tip of this grisly iceberg.

I believe I was clear about what my problems with the study are, and that many publications took this angle on it. I've shown other research that contradicts the conclusion used by most publications.

The study took 17 low testosterone women and then generalized their reactions to make articles about how difficult men are.

sometimes men are difficult :-)

(sometimes women are difficult too - difficult being your choice of words - but the study showed that too)

was the study wrong?

and the study was not responsible for all the discussion that followed

we are

:-)

see?

I am fascinated by this trend. People are literally incapable of seeing what they are doing.

Really - this is amazing. How deeply entrenched is this thing?

No... just keep drinking the kool aid.

"We'll have you all dead pretty soon."

Those are lyrics from a coheed and cambria song by the way, not a threat or anything like that BTW.

thanks for the explanation - but I wasn't worried

I totally get that wishing socialists dead is just a pleasant and harmless pastime for some :-)

Thats not really what I was getting at either. The casualties of Socialism/Communism exceed 150 million. Thats putting it lightly.

We all know the media is full of sensationalism and can be destructive. Sometimes our plates are full of social issues so it's all a matter of priority and personal motivation.

Media left unchallenged in the mind has an effect on people. That effect is clearly in motion in the populace unchallenged.

Trillions of dollars are spent on media - you think they do that because it don't work?

Did someone really write this? Are you 15?

Where are you going to go, my friend, to regain what has been lost due to emasculation?

To other men?

'Other men' have confused us about what it is to be a man, they can't help themselves, they must spread the deadly virus due to controlling forces beyond their ken, so let us forgive them, but if you return to that font in search of your balls they will be snipped off again. So that's a dilemma (please see top add referring to 'warpath' in post above. It is like the blind leading the blind. There are good men out there, and they want to help, but when you have one tune stuck in your head and it is very loud, it is hard to hear their message. Unless of course one's faulty programming derails one's life (and it will at about 40 or so) and one seeks them out on their own because one is desperate.

The genders are responsible for bestowing the gift of who each really is.

That means that we are depending on one another for our definitions. Running in a loop within the confines of our own gender seeking peace from this suffering is a zero sum game that is meant to kill us early.

What do you think?

X.

Good question, Aeons,

it has been around long enough and is entrenched deeply enough,

That it will fight for it's own survival.

Like a canoe-of-death, carrying us over the falls.
