Watch some of the documentary videos where people have snuck cameras in and documented life in NK. It is really, legitimately bad there, he was at terrible leader and has starved and imprisoned his civilians. Not a good place to be.

How can you get an accurate representation of the country when the entire time you are taken to state sanctioned areas and are escorted by a tour guide, a security guard, and a member of the secret police. You are not free to roam around the country, and in fact you can't even leave the hotel without your handlers. The places you go to are carefully selected and the people that work at those places have been trained to specifically in dealing with tourists. Most of the time you won't even see another North Korean outside of these stops.

I certainly would not mean it that way.

But just how in the heck does one dodge reality so utterly and completely to even suspect that Kim was not immediately welcomed into hell... wherever or whatever it may be?

If you ever want to dodge reality, listening to what the MSM is reporting is a good way to do it. Sure, Kim Jong may have been evil, but check your sources before you are positive.

This is one of those rare instances when the rumors and MSM coverage is pretty on the money. Listen to interviews with people that have escaped. It's pretty horrible. I watched a video of two people that had escaped and the torture they went through in the work camps (where most people spend their lives or just die well before their time). They showed the scars, they were held over heat and burned, all kinds of crazy stuff. You can look at them and they have that empty look of someone that has been through a horrible ordeal.

You are a complete knucklehead for even asking this. Do your research before asking a question that has an obvious answer. You are right to not trust the media...but come on, the guy killed thousands+ that did not tow the line.

Just found out that Vice did a follow-up to their documentary on North Korea. This one shows how North Korea is exporting their people to work in labor camps. It's even more eye-opening than the original. I don't know how anyone can argue that Kim Jong-il wasn't a dictator after seeing this. *Warning: Harsh Language*

Ask the people that escape the north Korean border every year.......

After the whole Libya-Gaddafi saga..I'm probably a bit more wary of whether KJI was really this nasty & evil dictator.

Interesting too that as a dictator he died a natural death, rather than going out in some similar fashion as Hussein or Gaddafi.

IMO media propaganda definitely altered perceived perceptions of KJI & NK..& things weren't as bad as they seemed to constantly make out.

However, that doesn't mean the regime during his time, & the state of NK is all rainbows & sunshine..

Let's just hope his son doesn't follow in his dad's footsteps, & can help increase the standard of living in NK.

Well do you wonder why they have one phone network for nationals and one for foreigners so that they can not communicate? And why the internet is seen as so bad over there? Also any foreign media have to wear a sign around their necks stating that they are foreign media and those are a very select few who are allowed in and heavily monitored. What are they so afraid of? Yes the media could skew things but this paranoia is for a greater reason than this. There is a lot they don't want us to see. just the lies that he has told his own people and the fanatical indoctrination alone are proof enough and many of these stories come from those who have managed to escape the country.

The answer is yes the media does lie and skew things, but with a little research the truth can often be found. In this day and age its easy to find things from all perspectives and listening to the regimes supporters is a good place to start.
