When Kim Ill Sung died, I remember watching on TV as a kid... Adult men and woman and even very old people jumping up and down and screaming, clawing their eyes out and ripping their shirts off in mass madness...

I was like WTF?

But when you're told from birth that you were born, basically, because Kimmy allowed them to be..
Then, what else do you know?

I think you make an excellent point here. So many are looking at this and actually ridiculing those people as being propaganda shows and fake emotion. It's apparently impossible for us here in the west to get our minds around the reality in that country.

For those pointing and laughing..... Imagine this. Open a map of East Asia and gaze upon the Korean peninsula. Look at the north part of South Korea and the Southern are of China where it borders North Korea. Read all those village names....river designations and on a good map, even a few elevation marks.

There... You now know more than 90% of the population in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea when it comes to Geography and the world beyond their borders. I don't see the North Koreans as a sight to be amused by...I see them as something I almost want to cry over. It's just mind boggling that so many people in the modern world are SO TOTALLY isolated from it as to be unaware most of it even exists at all.

Brainwash or the knowledge of a rifle discretely pointed against them from the other side of the street.

It does seem like they are acting, some are pretty terrible actors, but yeah, I am willing to bet some have been brainwashed and conditioned enough to the point they are actually grieving. But most on the video seemed to be obviously faking it because I can't help but detect some over acting. I could be wrong of course.

I don't see any acting in that. I think she is actually upset. I think this is a picture that shows the root of the problem, the propaganda of North Korea makes her feel that way eventually.

The picture is cropped by the way. To the right of the girl is her crying mother who is also in distress which possibly shows the fact the children learn to mourn their leader through their parents.

No doubt many of "his people" are saddened by the news. I saw this video earlier and couldn't help wonder, how many of those people were beaten or threatened because they weren't crying hard enough! I think much of the country is glad he is gone, but they can't show it cause they will be killed.

Indeed, many commentators, people who have actually visited the country and studied their culture have stated that this response would be though "obligation" rather than any genuine sadness.

For many, Kim Jong-Il is all they've known, but most also know that if the cameras are pointed at them they had better put on a good performance otherwise they could be hauled off to re-education camps.

No one can watch these ridiculous videos of extreme weeping and sorrow and think it's all genuine. You can see people in the background who don't know the cameras are on them looking bored! There are images of groups with kids there looking totally shocked and bewildered by the scene around them.

If it wasn't so scary it would almost be funny to watch, but when you consider how scared these people are it's really quite sad indeed.

I'm a sentimental fool- I've even gotten teary eyed watching Spongebob,
but I'll be honest...
I burst out laughing watching this.

leave it to Kim Jong-il to troll from the grave.

On a serious note, my heart goes out to the North Koreans who have been and are truly suffering because of that monster.
Some of those tears might be legit- but I'm betting that emotion is due to overwhelming happiness and/or relief.

Or...
maybe they have just totally lost it and developed full-blown Stockholm syndrome.

Socialist Governments are viewed as parent-substitute so its no surprise they'd go ballistic if their parent dies.

How many people cried in the streets when JFK bought the proverbial bullet?
I was very young then and we live in Canada and to this day I will never forget my mom's grief over that assassination.
They loved their leader just like we loved JFK.
You don't have to agree with a countries policies but you should at least respect the people when they mourn.

My spouse being from China tells me it used to be the same there.. when Mao croaked she was in kindergarten class and the teacher made all of the students cry by telling them adamantly about his death.. She said she cried because the teacher scared her, and most didn't even know what it all meant...

As others have posted, this is pure brainwashing in NK and if you don't act sad and mourn a lot, you would be punished..

This is completely absurd. I cannot get over how these people are reacting, IMO there is no way they are faking. North Korea has a big personality cult surrounding "the Kims", Kim Il Sung was pretty much made out as if he himself created everything ... like a deity almost.

I actually feel bad for how badly they have been brainwashed. They can't think for themselves, they are starving. One of my greatest hopes is to see a democratic unified Korea ... unfortunately with Kim Jung Un (his son) in power it looks like I will be waiting a little bit longer. I will say this, the South Koreans are going to have a hell of a job feeding and modernizing North Korea when that time eventually comes ... and people thought East Germany was bad, we havent even seen anything yet compared to how bad North Korea is.

I see almost every post here mentions the word "Brainwashed"......interesting to note here on this very board that word pops up a lot regarding Fox news and the rest of the club...servicing North America.
Fluoride? anyone?
War is good?.....shop till you can't afford to pay for it????????? Yep its all here right in our faces.

Actulay its much simpler than that.....
That city is an invitation only for the people that live there and if they aren't out and putting on a show, they will not only receive a few knocks on the head, but will be sent to the rural north where they can eat dirt with the rest of the pesents

You are correct, also the people of Texas only ride horses and pack six shooters, and the people of the lower states wrestle alligators and eat them too!
Here in Canada we all eat seal and Polar bear meat every day as well.

Your last post was full of facts so I included some other facts you forgot to mention.....
You forgot to include your links for the said dirt eating, so I graciously omitted our famous recipe for seal meat wrapped in polar bear meat done just so.....

I feel bad for those people, because of all the conditioning they've been through. The man treated them like slaves and they still hold him dearly.

It's amazing what one can do with a mere 'table scrap' here and 'piece of fat' there approach to 'governance'.

While I'll certainly 'credit the man' for having stood his ground and protected his 'nation' from invasion and/or attack ...

In my opinion he did so at the expense of his 'constituents and citizenry' throughout. Focusing more efforts, monies and resources on otherwise unnecessary levels of military machinations and defense.
All at the cost of the overall populace.

hmmm ... now that i think about it .... that sounds somewhat familiar.

You do realize that NK lacks food , is mostly rural and is acommunist country where the government tells its people where to live , right ?
Not sure what facts you disagree with ?
