Why do European men wear trousers everywhere? Even when they go to other countries or go swimming? Is it a religious thing?

It's culture again. Don't underestimate the power of the family. As well as status: if a briklayer get to be CEO, he will flaunt certain things for his family and certain things for his new position in Western society.
True global citizens try the dress style they find as they arrive and understand why it is done. If I am scheduled to give a reading to a Wall Steet Banker, I would certainly wear pants and maybe a suit and ties. Although I may wer just a jeans and a sweater to show my difference. At home I hang out in hippie dresses and Chinese exercise dresses and sometimes just in a T-shirt...
I happen to dislike people wearing shoes in my home place because I do Yoga and yes, I can sleep on futons. I wear a headdress because I wam cold in the winter and I had gotten used to the warm and humid climate in virginia for over ten years... People often find that funny. The other day I wore a rolled up ski mask in a store and bought a beer. A local drinker remarked on my cap. I jokingly said that's because I go to a terrorists" training and there it is obligatory... He laughed so hard... Then he asked if we killed Jews. I (again jokingly) said yes, but we are all getting tired of if... He laughed even harder.
(Well, my wife is Jewish as well as my daughter so obvipisly I meant that as a joke which he took - but he could have been a racist right winger for all lI know...

Pants were invented, as I understand it, and became "men's wear" for riding horses. That few of us ride horses now, it is the pants that have become archaic-- designed for a different time.

The most practical clothing is the pocketed vest-- The Arabian garb seems to have no obvious pockets. I wonder...

I saw a guy doing construction in a kilt a few years ago, and had to ask what the deal was. He said; "its comfortable man" ,and directed me to web sight that makes working man kilts, pretty cool stuff actually.

Now we will have men in kilts whisteling at our wemon as they stroll by...lol
