Ok then.

You want to write it down? I promise I will read it.

So as we've been discussing this week, I visited Fox News Sunday the other day to chat with Chris Wallace about South Park, President Obama, and I may have during the interview mentioned that Fox News viewers are "the most consistently misinformed media viewers. The most consistently misinformed? Fox. Fox viewers. Consistently. Every poll."
As it turns out, I was misinformed. Which should not have been surprising, because I do watch a lot of Fox News. Damnit, I did it again! Wait! So, don't applaud my ignorance.

PolitiFact, the non-partisan fact-checking guy, or guys, or girls, thoroughly researched my statement, and they found that while in two of the surveys, Fox News viewers scored the lowest, in other polls, they were merely near the bottom. Some of Fox's individual shows scored as more informed than, let's say, viewers of, I don't know, this show. So thanks for fact-#ing me, stoners. Get a job! We can't all teach world history.

Anyway, ultimately PolitiFact declared my statement false. I defer to their judgment, and I apologize for my mistake. To not do so would be irresponsible. And if I were to continue to make such mistakes and misstatements, and not correct them, especially if each and every one of those misstatements happened to go in one very particular direction on the political spectrum, well, that would undermine the very integrity and credibility that I work so hard to pretend to care about.

Hey, I wonder, you know what? I know PolitiFact checks mostly political statements from politicians and such, but has PolitiFact ever checked Fox for false statements?

I'm hearing they have.

Here's one now. Fox said less than 10% of Obama's Cabinet appointees have worked in the private sector. PolitiFact says that's false.

Fox said White House political director once served as right-hand man to the ACORN chief. PolitiFact scored that as false.

Texas Board of Education may eliminate references to Christmas and the Constitution from textbooks. Boy that sounds scary. PolitiFact says false.

Health care reform is a government takeover of health care. I remember that one! That one was all over Fox, they were running wild on that one. PolitiFact says not only is it false, this is exciting, that was the PolitiFact 2010 Lie of the Year!

Congratulations, guys! Congratulations! By the way, the correction for that one was issued, uh.... (checks paper) Oh! When monkeys flew out of Vidal Sassoon's ass. That's random.

Oh, where were we? Ah yes.

The statement the Muslim Brotherhood has openly stated they want to declare war on Israel? False.

American troops have never been under the formal control of another nation. Well that sounds bad. False.

Florida Republican Governor Rick Scott's approval ratings are up. False.

Wow, it's getting crowded. Can we try another....?

Massachusetts health care plan is wildly unpopular among state residents. They said that was false.

There's been more debt under Obama than all other presidents combined. False.

Health care bill includes death panels. Ooooh! That one was PolitiFact's 2009 Lie of the Year! Wow!

Fox News is like a lying dynasty! They're like the New England Patriots... of lying! Without the "patriots" part, because I think we all know patriots cannot tell a lie.

Wow, I'm getting tired, I think I'm going to have to have a snack here. A little trail mix, protein and fruit. It gives me the energy burst to climb Mount Fib.

Cash for Clunkers will give government complete access to your home computer. False.

Halting Gulf drilling costs $8 billion a day in imports. That one got a "Pants on Fire" rating. Kind of like the filet mignon of bull#.

Democrats plan largest tax increase in history. False.

Eric Holder was involved in the dismissal of criminal charges against New Black Panthers. False.

Obama voted in the U.S. Senate quite often "present". False.

White House science adviser John Holdren proposed forced abortions and putting sterilants in drinking water. Pants on fire!

Labor union president Andy Stern is the most frequent visitor at the White House. False.

America is the only country with automatic citizenship upon birth. False.

O'Reilly never called George Tiller a baby killer, only reporting what others called him. False.

Only Fox News picked up that Anita Dunn said Mao was one of her favorite philosophers. False.

Nobody at Fox News ever said you're going to jail if you don't buy health insurance. That's pants on fire!

Source (just transcript and hotlinks to each lie from FOX "News")

I enjoy Fox when I'm in the states, and I also like The Big Bang Theory. (bazinga) I also watched the SyFy network.

Don't like it?

Don't watch it.

Lol how do socialists encourage communism, and what is wrong with communism? No don't answer that, I already know what you'll say, Fox news watchers are so predictable.

Capitalists don't use violence as a means to an end? I guess you really believe all these wars are for your protection huh? The capitalist system is based on exploitation and violence.

The Principles of Communism

Violence and the Capitalist System

During the past two decades, neoliberal economic policies have been enacted in many peripheral regions of the world. Neoliberalism promotes free trade, deregulation, privatization, and welfare reduction; however, it does not call for state rescission of social control and legal coercion. Global capitalism has asserted itself as the dominant force in modernity. It transcends the nation-state system. For example, the United States was the primary hegemon throughout much of the 20th century. Yet since the appearance of global capitalism, transnational corporations now dominate the world-economy. Wealth is heavily concentrated in the hands of an elite capitalist class. The resultant income inequality, coupled with increased state surveillance and formal control, increases structural violence throughout the periphery. The purpose of this article is to examine the structural inequalities in the Americas, while presenting possible solutions to the neoliberal crisis from a social justice perspective.

In the 15 years since FOX NEWS has been on the air, when have they EVER broke a story? Like been the first to report one. I want to say never, but to be honest, I'm not entirely sure, but I can tell you not very often. The purpose of FOX NEWS is to report. And they do a terrible job at it...

Ok I dont have time to go through all of those now but I will take a look.

For the sake of time though I am looking and just going off my gut here so bare with me.

Texas Board of Education may eliminate references to Christmas and the Constitution from textbooks. Boy that sounds scary. PolitiFact says false.

Actually they have done more than that, I happened to look at some of the HS curriculum for history and they had issued a laptop and were actually teaching socialism.

Health care reform is a government takeover of health care.

True.

The statement the Muslim Brotherhood has openly stated they want to declare war on Israel?

No they just don't recognize them.

American troops have never been under the formal control of another nation.

True. NATO is controlled from the US

Implying that Fox views are ignorant, is. . . um. . . ignorant.

As for role play?

The neat thing about the intranetwebz is that I can be as honest and blunt as I want.

Upon re-reading this whole thread I realized I might have been unclear: In my first post I said that OP was upholding a FOX watchers stereotype, and I specifically meant that-- as I stated at that time-- that stereotype was calling others who don't agree 'socialists', whether or not their political beliefs actually reflect that of socialism.

I later said that FOX watchers are stereotyped as 'brainwashed and manipulated and don't have a realistic idea of what's going on the world, especially regarding foreign relations', but specifically stated that I DID NOT believe that this stereotype is always true just like I don't believe that all women are bad drivers or all pitbulls want to bite your face off.

I realized when I re-read everything that it sounded sort of like I was saying that OP reflects that second stereotype stated, and I did not mean to imply that at all... things can get a bit confusing responding to various posts and losing track of thought process.

Regardless, while I stand by my hatred of FOX (and all MSM) and resent being called a socialist as an insult because a) I'm the furthest thing from, and b) it's rude to throw around political parties/economic positions as a slanderous insult in a forum of people from all around the world with all different political backgrounds, ...I do sincerely apologize to you OP if it sounded like I was calling you all of those things, because I didn't mean for it to and don't have reason to speak so harshly about you.

No worries. I didn't call you a socialist. I called everyone who's reading this thread a socialist. But it should not bother you, if you are not a socialist. It should only bother you if you are. If you are not, then you shouldn't take any offense.

Sorry to everyone for the stereo types. Sometimes the best thing is to do is accuse everybody.

I am not interested in defending FOX News. Nor am I interested in condemning any of the other networks. They ALL are guilty of discrepancies and misrepresentations. I just don't feel that ANYONE should be judged by any news sources they may, or may not, subscribe to. A prudent researcher will ALWAYS use more than one source to base their conclusions on. It's always wise to get both sides of a story. FOX DOES present a "side" you won't find anywhere else, and they don't always lie. To say they do, is a lie in itself!

The bottom line is:
If you don't like FOX news, don't watch it! That's what the channel button is for. Use it!

See ya,
Milt

If I said that anyone who watches FOX and doesn't watch MSNBC is a fascist (as an insult), would you try to defend yourself and point out the fault in that statement or just not be bothered since you aren't a fascist and let it slide right by?

Not trying to be combative, it's an honest question.

You mean I'm NOT a socialist?

I was all set to take money from people who earned it!
Dangit dangitdangitdangit!

News has gotten personal. It appeals to certain demographics because it tailors itself to certain demographics and reinforces it.
Conservatives like Fox.
Progressives like MSNBC.

I like Pepsi.
Anyone who drinks coke is a garsh-darned moron!

See?

No. You are wrong. It is not a news source. They fought for the right to be an ENTERTAINMENT company that can say anything they want, true or false. That is not a NEWS SOURCE. Try again.

Instead of sitting around defending any of the MSM, especially FOX, why dont you people just go get real news somewhere else? It makes me sad to see how many people on ATS NEED their FOX news. Government run propaganda on television and ATS members NEED it. Sad.

No it wouldn't bother me, I watch all networks. When I am looking for a story I turn to the one covering it, wether good or bad. When its the same thing over and over again and I don't find it interesting I flip the channel.

Now that said theres a lot of liberal fox bashers which is fine, but I always try to get both sides. There were people threatening to go to rupert murdocks house and violently pull him out on the street in the fashion of thuggery. Thats not right.

Because like it or not FOX is an entertainment company and a NEWS source. It serves as a balance to all the liberal media that is sending the opposite message. I only look for truth.

I understand where you're coming from.

Only thing is, in regards to flipping between two MSM channels to get the full story from both sides... both sides are manipulative and no amount of either of them or any perfect balance will lead to the full story. Just a fuller version of a false story.
