Have you ever wondered if there might be a conspiracy of TPTB in the telling of the "True Meaning of Thanksgiving"? Do you have a strange little twinge in your being that says, "Aw shucks, this story sounds a little hokey."

The first Thanksgiving, we are told was in 1621 - this appears to indeed be true.
The rest of the story is just so much hokem...
Did you know one of the early ways the europeans (we have been told they were Pilgrims - they weren't) celebrated Thanksgiving?
Did you know they would go out into the wilderness and kill. Did they kill deer bucks, turkeys or pigs? Oh no, they killed a few Indians to rid the area of what they called vermin.

Well, suffice it to say we have a completely different story than what we have been told by TPTB and if we dig a little we find the disturbing truth.

The best telling of this truth is by a man known as SustenanceNCovering:

Did you ever wonder what the story would be if viewed from the native Indian viewpoint? Check out Marty Two Bull's cartoon:

indiancountrytodaymedianetwork.com...

Another valuable resource would be Thanksgiving: A Native American View:

Right.
One thing I am thankful for is ATS, where we can explore truth.

Do you know my 10 year old son told us the 'real' story last week?! I never doubted him, because the boy is an enigma, not sure I even gave birth to him. Everyone in school calls him Sheldon(Big Bang Theory)...The boy knows things I can't even fathom how or where he knows them from?! So when I started reading your post, I actually got a tad nervous, thinking, O CRAP, did my son join ATS?!
...Thank you for the verification! I enjoyed the story...

the flaw in your idea is the use of the word "they"

you can't paint every person back then with the same brush, it's just silly

just like today, there were good bad and ugly people

and who peed in your gravy ?

just enjoy the time with family, no matter what the reason

You are most welcome.

I know just of what you speak. I had a boy like that 44 years ago. Today he teaches programers new technology and writes best selling computer books. Get ready, he will make you a proud dad. Looking forward to his input here on ATS in the future!

I always enjoy the time with my family.

We can enjoy life without denying the errors of the past.

It is the way our family deals with reality and learn lessons to help us face the future.

Is this another hand wringing, cryin, whining story of how the poor peaceful injun where dancing around holding hands, being one with nature and loving all Gods woodland creatures until… THE BIG BAD WHITE MAN CAME ALONG AND SLAUGHTERED THE POOR PEACEFUL INJUNS!
Bull. The indigenous people of the Americas where savages that needed to be dealt with for colonization and expansion to happen. The indigenous peoples of the Americas became a conquered peoples and should be thankful they have been allowed what they have and what we provide for them. Don’t tell me that we should give everything back. The world is what it is because of colonization and expansion. Look what’s going on in the middle east and Africa right now. They where much better of when the European countries where occupying them. We should start to colonize these countries once again and the economy will improve 100 fold and peace will ring out through the land!

My, we must have had a bad night, huh?
I understand. Sometimes the truth hurts.
Some find it easier to deny facts and find excuses than deal with the truth.

I would just like to here some thanks once in a while for all we’ve done for the injun. How about it huh. Instead of wiping them out completely we gave them land to live. We allow them to rule their own lands like… casinos, tobacco, alcohol. They are their own nation in a nation. Do they have to worry about attacks from foreign countries? No. Do they have to worry about making money? No. Everything is provided for them. It’s like your parents letting you stay in the guest house or the room over the garage for free. You don’t have to pay rent. Worry about where your next meal is coming from or if you’ll loose your home. It will always be there. So how about a nice big THANK YOU?

Thanksgiving - The REAL story you were never told

Let me cut right to the chase; I don't give a flying rat's ass what anyone else thinks about this observance. It has already been politicized, incorporated and overstuffed with the kind of B-S most often found in the tabloids.

I give thanks... NOT because of pilgrims or turkeys or the Mayflower. I give thanks, on Thanksgiving Day, for my family and my friends and the blessings of life. I give thanks because our nation still has enough liberty to be able to celebrate without fear of narrow-minded zealots force-pandering political/ideological tripe.

Now please, don't get me wrong. I am a big fan of history and often wish we could learn from it to avoid the pitfalls of the present. But when it comes to things like who did what on a certain day and how we should all be ashamed? No thanks. Speaking for myself, I don't have a time machine so I can't change a doggone thing. And while I have long dead family who fought in WW2, WW1, the Spanish-American War, the US Civil War and the War of Independence, there's nothing else I can do about any of it. Not a single thing.

So, if my sin is giving thanks, you'll just have to send the inquisitor my apologies for missing the party.

I see.

Well, I'm not an Indian, just a lowly seeker of truth.

However, if you desire a big THANK YOU from those Indians try contacting them at these sites:

Good luck in your project!

I agree with most of what you say.

You may have misinterpreted the purpose of my post.

It was not intended to cast blame or create shame or promote pity.

History is nothing without truth and, as we all know, we must learn from history.

It was their land to begin with. They weren't allowed to live, they survived genocide. they ruled their lands before it was "given" to them. Since they are their own nation, the USA and Canada ARE (mostly hostile) FOREIGN COUNTRIES! (and honestly what other countries have attacked any of the First Nations?) And as for your house Analogy, its more like your living in the house then your parents kill your brothers and sisters every time you say you dont want to live in the doghouse. and i give you personally a big FQ. now gopher cough.

Why do you think they were "savages"? because they didnt turn their rainforests into deserts? what do you know about their culture before Europeans? i can tell you there weren't horses. and i agree with you about giving everything back. thats just silly. and the whole "world the way it is", lol. i think you need to see more of the world. In fact, you should go Colonize the middle east. i dont want to rush you, but the sooner the better, right? get going.

S&F

Little more to say. Would like to share a relevant Thieves Day "prayer", from a Great American:

Thanks for the wild turkey
and passenger pigeons
destined to be # out through
wholesome American guts.

Thanks for a Continent
to despoil and poison.

Thanks for Indians, to provide a
modicum of challenge and danger.

Thanks for vast herds of bison
to kill and skin,
leaving the carcasses to rot.

Thanks for bounties on wolves and coyotes.

Thanks for the American Dream,
to vulgarize and falsify until the bare lies
shine through.

Thanks for the KKK,
for 'n-word'-killing lawmen
feeding their notches.
For decent, church-going women,
with their mean, pinched, bitter, evil faces.

Thanks for Kill-a-Queer-for-Christ stickers.
Thanks for laboratory AIDS.
Thanks for prohibition, and the war against drugs.
Thanks for a country where nobody is allowed to mind his own business.
Thanks for a nation of finks.
YEs, thanks for all the memories-all right, let's see your arms.
You always were a headache, and you always were a bore.

Thanks for the last, and greatest betrayal of the last and greatest of human dreams.

William S. Burroughs - Thanksgiving Day.

The way to kill a man or a nation is to cut off his dreams, the way the whites are taking care of the Indians: killing their dreams, their magic, their familiar spirits.
William S. Burroughs

P.S. » Almost forgot...may they all choke on the gravy!
