To be fair, I think it is rational to be slightly afraid of huge lump of space rock.. Considering 99% of species that have existed on this planet are extinct.. Our current animal life is the 1%

OWS irony ! We are the 1%

I don't think our government has helped either.. By eroding our trust in them, we don't know what to believe. Conspiracies are rational reaction to a nuts world! They overstate danger when its suits their political aims but understate it when their is no political advantage in exploiting it.. So unfortunately we come up with our own answers.. We are also going through a psychological adjustment to the infinite supply of information, a great time but also a confusing age to live in ! We are the first humans to have had access to the entire knowledge database of humankind.. A blessing and a curse !

I think this is part of the problem.. Take Google autofill, which gives you results as you type..

if you wrote 'Yu55 w..' in google search, you get 4 options to chose from..

Yu55 wiki
Yu55 will hit Earth
Yu55 will hit Moon
Yu55 weight

But if you wanted the wiki one.. You are also seeing the Doom ones, split second decision and its so easy to enter into the matrix of doom! We are always prone to chose the more sensational search result simply because it is more exciting.. Obviously why the Newspaper pick sensationalist headlines. You also have the problem of commercialisation of this info.. if you advertise on your site, it PAYS you to get traffic.. so you need to standout and say something more sensational than the other billions of pages to get traffic and get paid.

Because there is so much information out there in 2 seconds you can get an article to back up almost any point..But I think in the future the internet could act act as a supercomputer, I thought about the SETI program using the combined computer power of people's home computers to help examine data to see if any E.T signals were reaching the Earth.. But couldn't we apply the same logic to combined human brain power!

For example imagine if we all focused on finding a cure for cancer, not by doing experiments ! But by finding in this vast human database instances where people had survived for unexplained reasons.. Then across the globe we could combine this information and find some common factor to correlate them all.

Who knows maybe the conspiracy really is the conspiracy ! Some of them will turn out to be fact and others manufactured to cloud the facts and create this tangled web of misinformation which we are not going to ever decipher!

I bet if we put our minds to it we could solve many of the worlds problems and we wouldn't need the politicians to screw it up for us any longer!.. Maybe we should attacking things like why the hell MacDonald's is allowed to put healthy eating posters in schools? Creating an association in young minds with health & Mac Death ! During an obesity epidemic that kills more than terrorism a million fold.

It seems that you may be confusing the term 'conspiracy' with 'prophecy' and/or 'prediction'.

There was no conspiracy about YU55. It was no more than another failed prediction of doom, for the gullible to grab onto. There will be plenty more failed predictions, just as there will also always be plenty whom are gullible enough to believe that→ "This one is for real!!!"

I understand you feel silly, but this thread is just making it worse. Stop drawing attention to your mistake, always the best choice. Just be quiet till it blows over - no one will remember it was you...

i have never worried about anything on a global scale, there is not 1 thing you could have done about that lump,or a country launching an NBC attack,a volcano popping it's top/earthquake happening an many other things that might or might not happen, the best you can do is make the necessary preparations for staying put or evacuating, depending on your resources and abilities for anything which may directly affect the well being of you/your family and friends, worrying about things only leads to stress, and that is something you should really be worried about, have a nice day an try not to worry to much

Do you know why it is dumb to be afraid of an asteroid? Because we are all nothing but ants when you look at the bigger picture, and worrying about it wouldn't stop it from killing us all

Live your life.

I don't think anyone should pick on the OP.

I think what was said is true. We are bombarded with conflicting information every day.

Also, some of what was said about YU55 would fit with "prediction" as someone pointed out. HOWEVER...I don't know how you wouldn't realize that it could DEFINITELY fit in with "conspiracy", as well.

It makes perfect sense (in the ATS world, anyway) that there COULD be a conspiracy to keep mankind in the dark about something like this.

While I was 99% sure that nothing would come of YU55, in the back of my mind, I realized that the conspiracy possiblity WAS a possibility. Anyone who thinks that conspiracies are impossible just isn't very creative, in my opinion. There are always possibilities that we don't think of...doesn't mean they aren't possible.

I will agree on this one that we are going to have to wait and see what happens before we know what happens regarding YU55 hysteria and all the things people discuss.

While YU55 and its association with Comet Elenin, its matched perihelion date with our sun on 09-11-11 and all the other oddities about YU55, make it something for us to study closer.

For instance, just by looking at YU55 from numbers derived from the of the alphabetical letters perspective reveals the following.

Y=2 5
U=2 1
> +55
-----
= 9 11

While this alone is not enough to conclude anything other that "isn't that odd", we should at least acknowledge that the numbers do show 911 to be part of its structure and design.

Is it an oddity or is it by ritual design?

Oh well, from 2PM today we should begin to see just how YU55 will be used or explained to the nation as the reason for what we will be told by Obama when he addresses the nation at 2pm EST as part of that emergency test of the broadcast system.

Thanks again, but I have to keep an eye on weather anomalies in Alaska at the site of GCN11133 where an impact is suspected. How odd is it that a never before seen hurricane of sorts with 100 MPH winds and snow is hitting the area just today.

Thanks for the thread and for trying to start some discussion.

I wasn't worried about it because I had no idea about any of it until today. I have no idea about alot of things so I do not feel doomed about all of the DOOM FROM SPACE or DOOM FROM GOVERNMENTS or DOOM FROM A SPECIFIC DATE etc. It keeps my brain heatlthy from worry about things that do not come to pass.

Being concerned about YU55 is perfectly rational compared to some of the paranoia on here.
1) It is/was real
2) Trajectories are only a best 'guesstimate' - note the closest distance of YU55 was steadily revised downwards.
3) If the authorities DID have any concerns it would be perfectly reasonable for them not to go public unless sure. No conspiracy necessary!

I'm one of those who had a look at local high spots, who had extra cash on hand, who topped up the fuel in the car just in case. A perfectly reasonable precaution. If on the other hand I had spent £X000 on an emergency bunker, that would have been OTT. It's all in the reaction.

The problem is that if there ever is some impending disaster, we are all going to think it is a conspiracy! I think it is possible that conspiracy theories as a whole are under attack..

If for example.. say the richest country in the world had done something so bad that the if was revealed it would threaten the existence of that country, what actions would be taken to stop that information becoming accepted as fact..

Since the internet is difficult to censor.. you cannot remove info so what do you do? Flood it with more info, feed the conspiracies.. This is the stage we are at now.

The chemtrails one always baffles me, we do regular pollution tests to check if air quality is safe an even issue smog warnings to help Asthma sufferers.. So it doesn't fit.. What is more likely is that inadvertently pesticides have been causing us some damage, so the chemtrail myth is introduced to create fear of something more extreme so when the reality of the danger of pesticides is exposed, it seems a lesser crime and we have been desensitized to it..
I think this is done with many conspiracies, they are taken to the extreme end, so when the reality is revealed we are not as shocked.

It all boils down to this: get some productivity in your life Find a hobby (other than paranoia), volunteer, work overtime, get a dog/girlfriend/whatever....

When this asteroid was supposed to hit, I was about 8 wings deep into a homemade buffalo wing smorgasborg. Luckily, there was no impact, and I could finish my 2 dozen wings alive.

How can anyone possibly be embarrassed... it is the internet we don't drink in the same pub!

If I was embarrassed I would set up a new account and start again..

I just saved your ass! By revealing to the world the government was intending to steer an asteroid into the Atlantic in order to create a disaster that would collapse the dollar bring in a global currency and create the New World Order. You could be a little bit more grateful.. Obviously they had to change their plans once they had been exposed.

Don't worry guys I will be looking out for the next one for you!

oh, I don't know.... maybe because [color=FFFC9E]NOTHING HAPPENED!!!

Do you think some people got together and conspired to do nothing?

That sounds like a 'Seinfeld Conspiracy'.

[color=FFFC9E]NOTHING!!!

My point was it COULD have been a conspiracy to hide the truth from us until it was too late. That's what some people thought.

OBVIOUSLY, now that nothing happened, we can say it wasn't, after all, a conspiracy. But before hand, that wasn't possible to say 100%.

All along, I was pretty sure it was nothing...BUT I have no problem with people discussing their theories. That's why I'm here, after all. I am smart enough to read what they say and decide if it sounds plausible or like rubbish. And I still say it fits in with the idea of conspiracy.
