ERUSALEM, Nov 8 (Reuters) - Should the Israelis attack Iran, they would probably focus strikes on select nuclear facilities while trying to avoid killing civilians en masse or crippling the oil sector.

Past operations by Israel, such as the 1981 bombing of Iraq's Osirak atomic reactor and a similar strike against Syria in 2007, suggest a strategy of one-off pinpoint raids, due both to military limitations and a desire to avoid wider war.

we are on the brink of what could be the greatest threat to all man kind , the real use of nukes and the Israel Iran war.
Iran has said with Russia's backing; "this will be all out war if they do attack".
Both sides have come to an impasse, that is to say one must give way to the other Israel will not stand for this , Iran have a nuke? No way, no how; Iran let Israel take out its nuke plants? No way no how. will we in the west let this be between them ? will Russia sit back and do the same ? Do nothing let them do what they will do and not interfere, I doubt it. Then what could Iran do; air strikes on Israel?
ground invasion?
Missile launches? if so how accurate are they?
could one hit the temple mount?
how would the Muslim world react to this?
Some serious thinking needs to be done.
should Iran be left alone and let it build the bomb?
would Iran use it as a first strike weapon or would it be like all other nuke nations use it only if nuked?
what is your view.

The big show has been delayed once again. Israel stated today that they would give sanctions one more chance to work. The US just stated they will up the sanctions but will not target Iran's oil sector or central bank so that there could still be room left for diplomacy.

Bottom line: Israel waiting on US. US waiting on diplomacy/sanctions. No war this year.

carry on.

Saudi Arabia would LOVE for Israel to attck Iran with pin-point raids.

Others? Not so much.

If Russia, China and NATO can actually sit it out...it would still be a bloodbath, but on a lesser scale.

And the ideology of Islam will need a lot more new recruits. But so will Judaism.

An undisclosed number of F-15 interceptors and F-16 fighter bombers destroyed the Osirak reactor 18 miles south of Baghdad, on the orders of Prime Minister Menachem Begin.

Not in this reality. Even if they wanted to and they do not, they would not be able to anything about it anyway. Russia and China support Iran just enough to annoy the US while at the same time working with the US to contain Irans export of revolution/terrorism in their territories. The sum total of China and Russia stepping in to defend Iran would be saying they condem it or more likely are concern with it and they would go trading with the US and the West.

The United States may impose more sanctions on Iran, possibly on commercial banks or front companies, but is unlikely to go after its oil and gas sector or its central bank for now, a U.S. official said on Tuesday.

More: www.jpost.com...

"Formulating and passing sanctions though takes time, at least a couple of months. It takes another few months to see if they are having an effect. Israel will have to be patient.

One problem is going to be the expected Russian and Chinese opposition to a Security Council resolution on sanctions, but even if that happens, Israel believes that countries which pass sanctions on an individual basis could also have the desired effect.

For that reason, Israel is also moving out of the spotlight and wants to see what the world will do with the report which provides a fascinating analysis and chronicle of Iran’s work over the past two decades to develop a nuclear weapon."

You misread my post...

I meant the article claiming that "Israel will not harm civilians" is just blatant lies.

Israel is really only just an anomaly of World War II. The 'nation' is completely dependent on support from their investor nations. Unfortunately, none of them have the resources for a prolonged strike on Iran and surrounding sympathizers. This whole scenario with Israel launching WWIII is an improbability.

On retrospect, it is quite obvious that Israel isn't God's chosen nation.

Just the opposite for sure. It will be a joint venture of the UN with the backing of the US and England that will dissolve Israel back into the Palestinian state. Reading behind the lines, that's really what's occurring right now. With so many fronts open, Israel no longer offers any strategic advantage.

It's always been about the resources anyway, not religion. The assets have already been man-handled and collectively under the influence of the UN. The game is already done. From now on, our WWIII experience is purely psychological.

My understanding is that their are Russian personnel at the facility and any attack on them would be an attack on Russia. Good luck Israel, you are about to be turned into a glass parking lot. Russia is also working on the S-500 anti-aircraft/abm missile system which is so good it will be able to engage fighter jets and incoming ballistic missiles neutralizing any attacking country's nuclear arsenal.
