That right there tells everyone everything they need to know about OWS when they use Veteran's as props to "justify" their little cause.

Where is your support the other 99% of the time? Oh yeah the rest of the time your calling them baby killers and murderer's.

Truly pathetic.

Oh, okay. Different standards are to be held for the movement you support vs. the movement you do not support. Glad to have that cleared up.

Absolutely not. That was a despicable act and no one in the TPM should be proud of it. It is still not the same scale as all out riots.

So long as it's someone you agree with carrying it? Look, Project, I do admit I don't know what's going on in your head, but given your posting record on this subject, I can't help but feel that if OWS protestors showed up with rifles, you'd be bound to be among the many ATS posters using it in support of brutal violence against the protestors from the police - "lol stupid protestors, bringing guns to a protest! What;d you think was going to happen!" I mean hey. Look how much support police brutality wins from a tossed bottle.

Actually if you did pay any attention at all to my extensive posting history you'd know that I support the right of EVERYONE to carry guns. Why? Because cops wouldn't be breaking up protests and pushing people around if the knew that a significant number of them were armed.

Americans exercising their right to bear arms, no matter what tribe they hail from, is a GOOD THING.

Probably because I'm a better shot

Yes in fact I do remember the LA riots. Do you know anything about hte Springfield Riots? The so-called "Zoot Suit riots"? US history is marred coast to coast with race riots. With a very few exceptions, these riots have been caused by white people trying to kill nonwhites. Los Angeles seems to be the main place where those exceptions happen - and even then you really only have two (Watts and Rodney King) with lots of standard riots (all the way back to the lynch mobs persecuting Chinese in the 1850's)

Study the subject. it's interesting. Depressing, but interesting.

27 + 25= 52% minority.

I know but from my math 52% is actually the "Majority"

You know. I'm not going to reply to you or your racially charged replies.

Quite frankly I find it offensive.

He could have been a mailman, college student, or a porn star for all I care. He almost died dude, where's your empathy there, Mr. "excuse me for having a conscience" while defending cops for nearly killing a man.

I'm going to be honest, I don't even understand these vague, incoherent sentences.

No but several areas have a bad rep and Oakland has been one of those areas I live on the East coast and know of this and that says something.

I don't mean to say they cause all the problems, they tend to be hotheaded, and NOT ALL of them but it's contagious too, like put in one or two in a group and then it's like that Shared Psychosis type of thing. I am talking psychology 101 here.

I am just saying... bad areas of town = bad outcomes ALWAYS...
Other OWS protests are not having the same issues. Not really.
I mean there were three arrests in Tampa but no violence whatsoever.

I'm not trying to generalize really but it's hard for me to explain...Oakland is known for Gangs and such and that is the Crypts and Bloods and I wouldn't be surprised if they are involved with the inciting and down at the protests. Just my take on the general ambience of that corner of the Earth,

I assure you I'm not one of them.

I WANT OWS to remain peaceful.

Well, I'm glad. I don't think the "HELL YEAH VIOLENCE!" people are representative of either thesupport or opposition. But on ATS at any rate, it DOES seem exclusive to the opposition, where present.

But if they want violence then they need to be willing to accept the consequences of their actions.

Generally the people squalling for violence are nowhere near anything that could possibly hurt them - the 101st Keyboard Battalion, you know? Put 'em out there looking at a line of dudes with clubs and chemical weapons, I'm pretty sure they'll change their minds about violence.

There's a thread going on around here about Marine response to the incident. In it, our resident "USMC" are proudly touting their bravado and killing powers and AR-15's. They brag that the police would cower if their rubber bullets came up against these guys AR-15's. :shk: They could wipe out the whole PD in the blink of an eye, they'll tell ya..

They are a embarrassment to the real USMC and ATS. The real ATS members of the USMC would never act like such drunken gasbags. But to hear them talk, they advocate violence, yeah they do.

Yes, it's his fault for not having the reflexes of Neo from The Matrix, and dodging a rubber bullet that was flying towards his skull. And I'm the one you call "truly pathetic"...lol

Do you have any evidence that this guy threw any bottles at the police? Or since somebody else did, it's OK for them to nearly kill a guy who is associated with that that organization? I guess justice has been served.....and on that note, did you hear that the police chief of Oakland resigned? It seems that lots of people think the police were out of line, wouldn't you say?

Actually I was referring to the fact that I couldn't understand what specifically you were trying to get across, hence the term "vague" and "incoherent", and not "mispelled" and "gramatically inaccurate".

Oakland suffers from an overzealous nanny state called California.

People aren't allowed to protect themselves with their 2nd Amendment rights.
There's so much economic regulation and taxes that businesses are leaving
and starting businesses is next to impossible and you want to blame all those problems
on people being black and Hispanic?

Who's generalizing?
You need to either own up to your comments or admit you are wrong.

Interesting you should mention riots, given the semi-derail we have here. There have been no "riots" here. There was a march by the protestors to reclaim their belongings that the police had decided to smash up, a bottle was tossed, and the police responded with extreme force. The protestors fled. if this were a riot, things would be a hell of a lot messier. Again, I encourage you to not use words willy-nilly, as they have devined meanings that are important to remember.

Actually if you did pay any attention at all to my extensive posting history you'd know that I support the right of EVERYONE to carry guns. Why? Because cops wouldn't be breaking up protests and pushing people around if the knew that a significant number of them were armed.

No, they'd have the governor call in the national guard.

Americans exercising their right to bear arms, no matter what tribe they hail from, is a GOOD THING.

Imagine the bottle-tosser in the current scenario. Give him some dinky pistol, a 9mm, perhaps. Now what?

I'll grant, your rights are your rights. But there should be some application of common sense, don't you think?

One day we'll meet at the range with golf balls at 100 yards and a pair of .22 rifles...And then IT IS ON.

I'll just bean you with a golf ball and steal your ammo, you know.

As it turns out those people with the ARs are part of a white nationalist group.

If they are going to show up with weapons to take on the cops then you will find me nowhere nearby.

Let the racist pricks get mowed down.

if I had a nickel for every time I've seen some lump of feces lay claim to a uniform they've never worn online, the OWS would be protesting in my front yard.

My usual response to "I'm a marine" on a messageboard is to go "Yeah, and I'm an ex-astronaut who sleeps with seven supermodels a day, at least not when wrestling dinosaurs!"

I figure, hey, if you're going to have a testosterone fantasy, go all the way, right?

Sure, but you know, the TPM showed up with guns slung over their shoulders and no one called the NG.

If there is already a propensity for violence in a group of people then one should expect equal opposition.

I grant you that OPD reacted rather over the top to a bottle being thrown.

Does anyone notice the insanity that we are witnessing here?

There is no rational thought being projected by either side here! Cops should not be attacking protesters! Protesters should not be attacking cops!

We can no longer discuss this rationally because we are too caught up in who's right and wrong!

We need to stop and think about this before each side kills the other!

Our republic is screwed.............

I've explained this a few times. Think of it this way.

Say you're in a really small town. Everyone there has grown up together, and you just moved in. One of the locals takes a dislike to you. even to the point where he smashes your mailbox, sits across the street staring at your house with a rifle in his lap, and making threatening phone calls against your kids. You go to the police... and end up getting fined for "harassment of a police officer." Turns out the chief of police is this asshole's brother, the other cops are his cousins, the judge is his father-in-law... basically you're screwed because everyone in the system is wrapped up in this guy.

This is sort of like what the tea party has going. They got "free passes" because they tended to reflect the sentiments of the police - Police unions are some of the biggest anti-democratic unions out there, for one. The tea party wasn't tipping any apple cards, either - they were staunchly in favor of corporate influence and power (just look at the people they elected.)

I'm sure that if police had been as eager to violate the rights of tea partiers as they are to violate the rights of OWS, there would have been plenty more violence to be had. But somehow, police never ignored legal permits. They never kettled the teabaggers. They just sort of always looked the other way and let them do whatever. If they did the same with OWS, I'm sure there'd be the same general lack of incident.

It's kind of like you're making the argument "Well, if the police are giving you a hard time, it MUST be because you're a criminal and deserve it."

Do you have any evidence that the canister was deliberately aimed at that guy's head? That the cops were trying to intentionally harm him?

Maybe not, but the flash-bang used afterwards was clearly aimed at people trying to help him. So I'm inclined to think it may have been intentional, since there was at least one clear act of malice from the OPD.

Yeah.. not to mention the flashbang was lobbed at and went off practically on top of the already injured guy.
I mean this guy has his skull cracked and has brain swelling and a riot cop practically drops a flashbang grenade right one him. Ne way he could move or protect himself so he got the full force of that. Surprised that didn't kill him in his condition.
