There's a vision (and hype), but it takes engineers to make it a reality. Why do you think Nokia lost the smartphone battle to Apple and Samsung? Because one of the reasons was that its touchscreen wasn't fast enough. As for the internet, Japan made it faster, and only corporations can afford to lay out fiber optic cables on the ocean floor.

Sorry, wrong again. It is the design and the apps that make one phone better than another. Touchscreens have not improved over the last ten years. It is the software that makes the difference.

"If you choose to be ignorant, than you will always be ignorant".

Japan didn't develop compressed digital. What a typical comment from those of a certain racist attitude.

Just as the tech was created by government funds, the cables should be laid by government funds and owned and controlled by the people, not some corporation who probably borrowed the money from the government to lay the cables in the first place.

Bet you didn't even bother to look at the link I provided.

And clearly you think that inventing doesn't require innovating. No wonder America gets more behind other countries. You depend too much on your lazy college kids.

Your bigotry against the U.S. shines through clearly.

Back in the nineties Japan was heavily invested in microwave tech, catching up with, and eventually surpassing the U.S. in the tech there, but meanwhile, in the U.S., they were developing compressed digital, which completely leap frogged everything the rest of the world had been doing in Microwave tech. I know about this stuff because I am on the fringes of all of what was going on then.

Sad you choose to embrace ignorance, instead of learning some truth about this world. The rest of the world is still trying to catch up to the U.S., and it will be a long time before they do. Too many people on this planet spend way too much time crying to god (prayer) instead of using their time on Earth to make good things happen. Their fear of life and death keeps them paralyzed, and trapped in ignorance. Their cultures and societies stagnate and wither away. The West brings new ways, innovation, advancement, and they respond by attacking the people of the West. They collaborate with the bad people in the West, to break down that which envy makes them detest, and the world becomes a darker place. All of this of course works against the will of God.

"Embrace truth, deny ignorance"

"Return to what worked in the past."

OP makes this point clearly:

It is all about this spinach!

Some people say spinach is a gateway vegetable. They say "Oh sure, if everyone eats spinach and gets strong like Popeye, the next thing you know they'll be making eggplant parmesan and fois gras!!"

These "gateway vegetable" theories are absurd. Spinach is a plant that grows, Popeye takes it from the can, and eats it. Eggplant parmesan, has to cooked, prepared, etc. That's very different. But you see, the "War on Vegetables" is very very profitable. And Popeye knows this.

In fact, the War on Veggies is so hugely profitable, especially from the perspective of "currency of control" and "Currency of power", that it is easy to see why Popeye makes this his primary value.

Please note that Popeye at times has no money (watch the cartoons) but he always has spinach on him.

Also, Popeye types of this day and age (years after ww2 which was Popeye's big conflict) are labelled as "potential terrorist" not just for owning spinach (the simplest vegetable) but also for having the wrong tattoos like Popeye, or for having a disability like Popeye, or just for fighting even in self defense when attacked by thugs like Bluto! The point is, Popeye himself, is an anti-American symbol, according to the powers of today: He is a lover of plants and vegetables foremost, and all else derives from that. As he says "I am what I am, and that's all that I am." Sage words indeed.

HAIL POPEYE! CAESAR OF TODAY! HAIL!

Why were we so poor in the thirties?

How did we go from being so poor in the thirties, to so rich in the sixties?

How did we go from being rich in the nineties, to be so poor in 2011?

What did the WW II generation do to eliminate the huge debt of WW II, and rebuild the planet at the same time?

What did they do so right, and what did the GW admin do so wrongly?

not so much a slogan or memory quip...
but basic service 'Utility Banks' are for the peoples of Main Street

and let the Investment Banks serve the whims of the casino operations on Wall Street... and let them be taxed at the 70% rate of Lottery winners, with absolutely no forced backing or bailouts by taxpayers...
let the predatory capitalists prey on one another not the masses

You had no rival. The great engineering bastions Germany and Japan were ruined.

One of my favorties is, "Technology magnifies mayhem." I'm not anti-technology, but I recognize that it magnifies the effects of any individual.

On another note, what a sad statement that we have to now vote with out dollars. Are we only consumers? Or are we citizens?
