I didn't know where to put this so, ima lay it down in the media section.
You ever find Larry the cable guy funny? I did, but I don't blame you if you
don't find his material funny, for it is inappropriate most of the time.

Well every time you see him on msm,
he's doing an act. His personality is self created to make you laugh.
His real name is Dan Whitney, and before he was "Larry He was anything but red neck.
Take a look for yourself in this video of him doing stand up back in the day.

I just found this out I thought it was pretty interesting.

EDIT: Embedded wont work, so here's the link:

EDIT///: I am not saying he is a fraud, the video title is what I chose as the thread title, just to clear that up.

Almost every comedian has a certain stage presence that is fake.
This doesn't make him a fraud.
It makes him an entertainer.
And by the looks of how famous he is, he did a good job for him self.
Don't hate.

American's don't like reality, they like stupidity.
They eat it up.

I'm pretty sure we are all aware that he was putting on an act the whole time...at least I did.
And no, he is very low on the list of comics i'll watch, I'll say he tells a funny joke here and there.
His movies were so bad though...100% camel drool. (gross right?)

Anyway, I already knew this, and probably everyone else...but if they didn't, he has been exposed!

Good Job!

Almost every comedian? Name one besides Gilbert Godfrey.
He is a sell out, he was funny before he turned "red neck".
And it's sad that he is a HUGE inspiration to the "Red Neck"
community when truly.. In reality its an insult.

It's like me pretending to be Mexican saying countless jokes about
taco's and sombrero's.

He's supporting the stereo type of American's being stupid.

Yeah, I don`t get the problem here either. It`s a shtick. He puts on an act and everyone laughs and goes home happy. What`s the issue with that?

You do have a point. And this act of his is now on the History Channel, which is one HC show I turn off.

While I am not a fan- I am not exactly his target audience-- I respect what he has done. This guy makes over $200,000 for an appearance and I think makes anywhere from $500,000-1 million per stand up gig.
If we are speaking of 'fraud' comedians, I would say Mencia, as he has been known to steal jokes and (pretend to be Mexican)... but of course.. he is not the topic.

He is not a fraud. He is an actor. Did you really think he was just a "funny" cable guy?

( I put funny in quotes because he is not funny....)

The Three Stooges, Cheech and Chong, Chelsea Handler, Sarah Silverman.
The list goes on and on.
Point being, a stage presence is a stage presence.
I'm sorry that your view on life has change because of Larry.

Yah, I found this out a while ago..

I have watched him on the history channel larry the cable guys amerca.

Anyways, every now and again he will say a sentence without the fake accent.

I pick it up. Some people do not know it is a schtick lol..

Told some people about it and they did not believe me!

Did you actually watch this video that you posted?
That wasn't even a tiny bit funny. That was awful.
Obviously, the change was necessary.

The ONLY thing that I have found surprising here, is the fact that someone has not only kept that video, but even took the time to upload it.

Before he was Larry the Cable Guy, he used to work for a radio station in Orlando, Florida WJRR. There's 'rival' station there 104.1. Both of these stations had talk shows, although 104.1 has more talk then music, where WJRR has more music than talk. On 104.1 there was a show called Monsters in the Midday (they are now Monsters in the Morning). Anyway, they have a guy on there named Bubba 'Whoopass' Wilson who, rumor has it, is where Larry the Cable Guy 'stole' his act from. My husband said they made a big stink on the Monsters when Larry started using his character in his stand up. Is this true? I honestly don't know, anyone that has listened to the Monsters (and they've been around FOREVER it seems) knows that Bubba came first, but it's a good theory.

Well, yes...........
You didn't think the guy who did the "You might be a redneck" stuff actually was what he showed on stage, too?

there was a pretty funny scene in one of his movies in an airport when a TSA agent demands he remove his boots.

Larry says

"If you make me take these boots off the skunks will come out of the woods raising white flags"

But, no, OP, of course actors/comedians aren't there persona in real life.
