A 22-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of the murder of 68-year-old Richard Mannington Bowes. Bowes was attempting to put out a fire when he was set upon by a pack of feral thugs. He died as a result of the injuries sustained in the attack. Killer's name and photo to be released soon, one hopes.

Here's some more of these ''revolutionaries'' being convicted for their deeply motivated acts of political dissidence:

Charlie Burton and Mario Quirssaca, both 18, had spent Monday night playing football at a youth club. The court was told that when Burton got home he saw TV coverage of rioting in Croydon. He told the police he was "up for it" and wanted to "create havoc", the court was told. Quirssaca, described as a talented semi-professional footballer - whose first match of the season is on Saturday - said he "wanted to cause chaos".

Manchester Magistrates' Court heard details of a case involving a man caught "red-handed" coming out of a looted Maplin electrical store carrying a Macmillan Cancer charity box containing £50. Judge Berg told Daniel Bell, 30, from Stockport his crime was "probably the most despicable and contemptible I have had to deal with all day".

n the same court, Gary Herriot, 47, from Collyhurst, admitted handling £1,000 worth of jewellery from Links of London in Manchester - a store targeted by rioters. Herriot, who has 126 previous convictions, admitted the charge and will be sentenced at Manchester Crown Court later.

Craig Rollason, 39, from Newtown, admitted assaulting police, damaging a police vehicle and racially abusing an officer. He was remanded in custody until 23 August.

Also remanded in custody to face a crown court trial was Shereka Leigh, 22, from Tottenham, who was allegedly pictured trying on shoes after looting a sports store on Sunday.

Its a shame most of the sentences are so lame.

I know im going to be hated on for this next comment.....but here goes anyways :p

If immigrants, legal, or illegal are found to be people involved in these riots/looting they should be sent back to their birth country as punishment/recompense.

This would free up housing and services for the people in the area....who werent involved in the criminal behavior. They decided to rebel against the country who welcomed them with open arms and handfulls of cash and other hand outs....why should they be allowed to stay?

Still trying to focus the blame on immigrants. Funny!
The Times have reported that the gangster scum duggan was carrying a gun & he pulled it. GOT SHOT DEAD & HE DESERVED IT!!!
When have the British police ever shot a person who wasn't suspected of something without a gun (real or not)???
The blame lies with those of our society who want to be like & worship duggan & his ilk.
From what I saw on the news it was immigrants of whatever generation protecting what was theris not British white folk!!! Certainly not British blacks or those wanabe scum, benefit claming, lazy-ass white chavs, because they don't have anything of value (not even morals).
We will pull together as a country & hopefully regain our respect from other countries again, that was taken from us by the behaviour of those who dont know what being British means.
Blame who you want 'loves a conspiracy' you are a minority like the scum who destroyed our society but together we the Great British people will show the world what being great is!!!

That Duggan and his ilk are self-selected fitting role models for young people fed a diet of crap and gangster rap, reveals the lack of options available.

The constant comments about 'scum' are revealling. Why should these people be harshly penalised when politicians, the police, quangosters and all other manner of systemic gangsters get away with covering up their wanton pillage of the tax coffers?

You do realise that calling for harsh penalties is the desired, perhaps even orchestrated public/mass response to the rioters? You are aware that media focus on the riots very successfully distracts from the ongoing journalistic attempt to expose the civil service abuse of tax-payer funded credit cards? How much bad news do you think might be buried whilst the media (I seperate journalism from media, not all journo's are puppets for the moguls) focus's on an opportunist mixed ethnic minority?

The total monetary value of goods looted is a tiny fraction of the billions squandered by the riotors so called olders and betters.

Yeah, let's scapegoat petty criminality, it is the cause of all society's ills and only pertains to Thatcher's deliberately created underclass! Way to go!

A few days ago I was quite hopeful that the events of last weekend and beyond would be just the wake up call my place of birth needed. Now, seeing all the headlines of the politicians squabbling with the Met, I'm quite certain nothing will get fixed any time soon. All this talk of tough actions actually sweeps the real root causes under the carpet. Kids aren't born to loot and riot, give them something constructive and rewarding to do and they'll get stuck into that.

Last night I had a few beers with a wise old gent, retired ex-headmaster, and he hit the nail on the head (actually agreeing with what the looters have said) - there's nothing for kids to do. He also used to work with disadvantaged kids from bad backgrounds and would take them out for trips across the Moors. He said the difference in their behavior on those trips was phenomenal - give them something to do, set them challenges, and they excel. Take away their youth centers and free sports facilities and they'll rebel out of boredom.

The wake-up call should have come in the 70s and 80s with the English Disease. We should have been tackling the route of the problems back then and asking why do our youth love a good tear up? As tough as Camoron wants to sound it doesn't matter - hand out stiff sentences to the ones you've caught - there's plenty more where they came from.

You think this lot are bad, wait till the next generation hits the streets.

I dunno, I think some of the sentences have been pretty severe, especially compared to what people would normally get if they had committed these crimes outside of a riot zone. A lot of the more serious offencders have been referred to the Crown Courts for sentencing.

You've also got to look into each person and what crime they committed individually. A lot of the people are guilty by ''theft by finding'', which is pretty much just giving in to temptation, rather than instigating any trouble. Others are being charged with handling stolen goods, and plenty of these people took no part in the trouble, but just accepted a ''no questions asked'' bargain on electrical goods.

I'm sure there are still plenty more early morning police raids to come.

I see no reason to believe that there would be any large numbers of immigrants taking part in the mayhem. London has quite a large foreign born population, so I'm sure that, by the law of averages, there would have been a few foreign born people among those who have been charged.

You can't just strip people of citizenship and deport them, just like that. The only person gaining recompense would be the looter, from the UK government, by successfully suing them for even attempting an illegal deportation process.

Just as I've been saying all along:

Striking parallels between UK riots and France 2005 unrest

The current score is 2,800+ arrested, 1,700 charged.

The three weeks of rioting in France, six years ago, only produced 2,900 arrests. The one day of rioting in Canada earlier this year only yielded 100 arrests and 0 charges.

Trust the UK to to be the best, once again, and to set the high standards which the rest of the world can only dream of living up to !

I think that's used far too much as an excuse these days by kids when they get caught for doing stupid sh*t. When I was a kid all we really did was go out and ride bikes, go to the park or play video games round friends houses etc. We never went out robbing and rioting.

With the fact everyone has the internet now (even the most poor families) there is no excuse for not having an education, if you're out of work you can learn next to anything online for free, setup your own site for work for like £10 a year and go and do anything, even be a freelance bin collector if you have to!! As long as you can read and write there really is very few excuses.

I know people with not much of an education outside of A levels from pretty #ty areas up north who are doing great for themselves as they have drive and don't want to live off the state.

In birmingham it was 90% black and asian kids doing all the riots, and the problem is cultural. So many kids these days talk in this stupid fake ass yardy wanna be bad man accent, don;t see any point in working as they know they can get benefits, and see robbing people, and selling drugs as a glamorous way of life. I don't know where this has all sprung from, as ten years ago no one talked like this, and personally I think a lot of it has to do with the UK hip hop / grime culture... very comparable to the hip-hop black gangsta type culture in america of drugs, guns and gang crime.

But at the end of the day this has only become an issue as parents aren't controlling there kids. I could be a little sh*t sometimes when I was really young, I'd my folks would give me a slap ( I don;t mean I got a kicking, just a slap as was the norm back then)... and it didn't happen again. Now parents will let there kids get away with murder and wonder why they're out of control.

personally I fully agree with the extra harsh sentences for the little sh*ts that destroyed and robbed their own areas, burning down businesses and peoples homes just because they thought it was fun and they could. They won't think they're so hard when there's a real risk of getting 'murcked' and 'shanked' in the lock up!

Americans would never do this. They're too docile with their High Fructose Corn Syrup laden chips/soda/food, and Aspartame riddled diets for those who are "healthy."

...hahahahahaha......ahah....

You're right. Next time we riot in America, remind me to skip all the stores and shops and just go straight to the ghettos. Should be able to loot a custom Lincoln Navigator with 26" gold plated rims, and fill it with stuff that says "Sony" "Pioneer" and "Samsung", along with more diamonds and gold ever owned by the Vanderbilts....as long as I bring my "Mossberg" and my "Smith & Wesson".

No, re read my post

Im saying if immigrants are found to be involved they should be deported. Im not saying EVERYONE involved was an immigrant...i dont know how you came to that conclusion from my post?

Police have shot people for no reason....
en.wikipedia.org...
Un armed, because he jumped over a barrier at a train station and was wearing a big coat.

en.wikipedia.org...
Because he had a table leg in a bag.

I am a minority you are right, il say it how it is...sorry if your offended
Please dont refer to me as scum....im far from being a scumbag thank you very much

British people also protected their properties....some were a bit apprehensive given that normally they would be convicted if they beat up a looter.

If an immigrant is convicted of looting/rioting they should be deported...simple.

EDIT: He didnt pull a gun....you need to read more recent news

An interesting article I found, in passing, in the Canadian press, relating to the efficient and internationally commended actions of the British authorities, police and judiciary, in comparison to another country's shortcomings in a similar situation ( in this case, Canada ) :

Why 1,000 charged in U.K. riots and 0 charged in Vancouver

It's difficult to find too many comparable riots to the ones in England the other week, other than France, 2005, Canada, 2011, and Denmark, 2006, but, yet again, Britain comes out on top.

Seems to have quieted down for you all now. I know if it has not you will kick my *ss.

I just wanted to say God's Speed in your recovery and our prayers have been with you all. For Angelenos, it brought back the nightmare of our own riots. Gang members with guns ran across the hood of my car (and others at a traffic light) after picking my daughter up from school...so I get it.

But, I take no sides here.

But, also, it brings back the changes we made, the over haul of LAPD, (and they do shine now and have for a long time, believe me when I say) in particular, and I am so proud of, the Rampart division..bravo. Those of us who had Lily white hands, rolled up our sleeves and pitched in, donating money, feeding people and assisting the clinics who assisted the people living on the street. We were blind, living in our own worlds.

It took a lot of specialists for the police teams and the gangs who all worked together. We are by no means perfect. It will only take a quick search for you to see that. But we are a helluva better than we were.

Carry on brave London! ... and you are brave. This can make you better!
