And yes i agree, it can actually seem like we are being desensitized.

It was also an amazing film on many levels that never quite translated to an American audience and the scenes in that movie were very very very carefully mapped out as to not actually be anything like the final result. Definitely not for a weak stomach but after spending some time getting to know where the writer and director were coming from and how they approached it was a huge help to understanding why it was what it was.

That's another thing I'm finding in this thread - people are focusing on the parts of movies that they find offensive, without understanding or appreciating that it's all part of a larger story.

Maybe this little girl grows up to be a troubled person, a drug addict, a prostitute, etc.. come to find that as a child, she was raped, or she saw her Mom kill herself, or her parents were drug addicts themselves. These things are used to tell a story, but also to evoke emotion from the viewers. They're meant to disturb you because they want you to feel connected to the people on the screen and have an attachment to the story overall.

Sometimes people will look at someone who goes around shooting people differently if they know they had a messed up childhood. It's meant to get a reaction for the ENTIRE story.

In the end, rather than police everything, police your children. Don't force me to your standards. Enforce YOUR standards for YOUR children. The second you start trying to police my life, you're going to have a fight on your hands.

Some of the things i see on t.v., make my head spin. Do we really believe these images don't effect our psyche? I hear people say, all the time, "It's for entertainment purposes only"; but is it? Have you seen Gaga's videos? How is that 'entertaining'? How are the MESSAGES she's sending, considered entertainment? It's NOT for "entertainment purposes', it's for DESTRUCTIVE purposes, so please stop thinking otherwise. The crap that comes out of the t.v., these days, is nothing but PORN. Sure, we talk about XXX-rated movies, but how is a movie like: "Bad Teacher" not considered mild porn, with at LEAST an X-rating? Oh, and let's not even talk about Disney. The stuff that comes out of that channel, is waaaaaaaaaaay outta control!

I don't watch t.v. anymore, but when i get a glimpse, here and there, i feel like i'm being hypnotized. I just stop and stare...until i snap out of it; which is about a minute or so later. And, like i said, i don't watch t.v. much, so the effects don't last long. Now imagine someone that watches it for hours at a time. There's no way they're not being hypnotized and brainwashed, to accept things that are unacceptable. They most CERTAINLY ARE!

If you dont want your children to see the evils of this world i suggest you get rid of your Computers, Tv's & LOCK the doors !!

My favorite shows as a child were horror movies i pretty much watched everyone our local video store had, granted after watching one i didn't sleep right for a few days, but as yet to date i have not raped, murdered, Assaulted (except maybe in self defense) or stolen anything except once as a teenager i stole a car with friends but thanks to my mother i never made that mistake again.

The only thing i will say movies add to, and i will quote my favourite horro flick here is:
"Movies Don't Create Psychos. Movies Make Psychos More Creative!"

And to make it worse, the OP was about kids starring in movies who are exposed to certain things - NOT about the movie itself, which is a misleading title and I should report it - but I won't.

If you are offended by child abuse in movies, the 1972 film 'The Possession of Joel Delaney' would make you # bricks. Not only is a little girl forced by her uncle to eat dog food with a knife at her throat, but a young boy is also forced to take all of his clothes off and dance on the table in front of his sister, mother, uncle, and cops who are standing outdoors (and it doesn't even censor it, or show him from the waist up or anything like that. It shows everything).

I don't think that scene should have been included in the movie. The actor was only 12 at the time, so it may have been traumatizing for him to appear onscreen nude in front of millions of people at that young age. Not to mention he might have gotten made fun of at school. And can you imagine being the director and telling a 12-year-old "OK, for this scene you're going to have to take your clothes off and dance on the table." That must have been an uncomfortable day on the set. That must've been uncomfortable. Because of this movie, I can kind of see where the OP is coming from.
