as a veteren computer repairman/pirate installer, let me let you all in on the fact that
IE means internet exposer [not explorer] basically it's a two-way window on the internet.

i used to have a cd around for a pre-tweaked, stripped version of xp pro that installed in 10-15 minutes, no IE or media player.

when your desktop showed up the 1st time there would be a folder with instructions the browser section instructed one to open an explorer window i.e. My Computer, but any explorer window was fine, once opened you type www.mozilla.com or www.opera.com and hit enter.

the explorer/exposer window would open up the internet address to the homepage it was directed to and all you had to do was download your browser and install it.

i've made a lot of money off of clients who after doing a clean installation and setting chrome as default plus firefox

they'd be back in a week or two with viruses. open up IE and half the UI would be taken up by toolbars.

but hey more money for me if people prefer IE.

so let me ask you directly what you meant or if I'm understanding right

Your post basically just explains how you're in the know, and can get around installing IE and/or removing it.... and still being able to install another browser

I don't see you explain how its an "exposer"


I never had any virus that I didn't put on my system myself through my own idiotic clicking
I don't have any unnecessary toolbars

In fact I have no toolbars



I'm not entirely disagreeing with you about people being stupid enough to pick up a virus - because I have been - but that is not IE dependent - thats wanting something worse than wanting your PC to function

and I did have to remove toolbars on my own (at least 2, that I had to allow to be installed)


so maybe the real issue is that smart people can use IE - and stupid people should be using Chrome or something similar?


Just want to be clear that people aren't stupid for using IE - but if they're stupid in the first place, perhaps they shouldn't?

okay, the cd was a torrent i downloaded, it was called mini xp

there are programs that will take an original windows cd/dvd [or the installation partition/folder] and create a tweaked version [speed, settings, themes, pre installed winrar and programs,etc you can also strip out components you don't want or need such as IE or Media Player in this case.

it's a win XP Pro with no browser installed one uses windows explorer [explorer.exe] to get on the internet and download your preferred browser by typing the address in the address bar and hitting enter.

this is what all to noise about microsoft getting into a legal hassle in europe about the integration of the browser in the OS issue, was about

IE is just explorer with a few more functions, major security issue.

if you gaze into the interwebs using IE,
the interwebs can gaze into your computer.
2-way window.

it's like going for a space walk
buck naked.

if you haven't installed all your security patches and updates before connecting to the internet 1st time,
you will be infected in less than 5 minutes, remember not all malware is going to slow down your machine, especially if it's after your private info.

lol have to agree with you, IE is definitley not for idiots.

but should be avoided by smart people, don't forget NSA has backdoors into windows.

agreed, it's usually "free" music that's the cause.
i've seen cases of people uninstalling the antivirus [nod32]
because "it won't let them download MP3's"

and no i'm not implying you are stoopid,

I agree that there are reasons I load firefox and chrome - but for everyday ordinary purposes - I just use IE because everything I have is already set up with it - at the end of the day IF a person is smart, it becomes preference

I'm just thoroughly annoyed at the stereotype this article has tried to portray.

I got my last virus trying to download an episode of House, shhhhhhhh, thats a secret - every other previous virus was self inflicted on purpose so that I could learn how to remove it by myself. (I'm convinced anti-virus software comes prepackaged with viruses in order to sell their product)


So I do understand where people are coming from when they say "IE" is bad - I just want everyone to keep in mind that those same really smart people who are getting a virus by downloading porn - would get it on any browser ♥


My usual advice to people is before they download and install anything - they should ask themselves - Is this worth losing my computer over?

In most cases the answer is no

Instead of relying on one’s gut reactions, interested parties should look at the PDF and see if the research looks kosher, then decide what to think. Some of you will say IQ tests are drivel anyway; personally, I’m agnostic. One way or another, our opinions are worthless until we’ve read the actual research.

For those who can't, they prefer to buy a Mac product use it for a year until the new verison comes out and then go buy that one. They never crash or break because they don't have time to.

The first Macintosh I owned was a prehistoric PowerBook. This was in 1994 or something. I bought a Blueberry iMac in 1998 or ’99; can’t recall exactly, but it was around the time they came out. Switched to a PowerBook G4 in 2004 when the iMac finally gave up the ghost. I’m still using it, and will have to for at least another year, because I just bought a car and can’t afford any new toys for a while.

I’ve also used desktop Macs, many different varieties, during my career in advertising.

Nothing crashed. Nothing broke until it was so ancient it was almost indecent not to.

Some of the places I worked in used PCs throughout the office, so I was obliged to use them. It was always frustrating. Apart from the hangs, viruses and crashes, that user interface is vile. At first I thought it was just conversion klutziness but I’m an expert on it now, and it’s still vile.

I understand that Apple has become a consumer-marketing phenomenon since I last bought a computer. My next will be a Macintosh too (if I can afford it), and I shall be very disappointed if I find that the standard of quality which I have come to expect from these machines no longer prevails.

What, exactly, are the cons with IE? What is so good about the others? I have Chrome & Firefox installed, but use IE almost exclusively. Only if I am messing around with some html5 or using the firefox youtube download plugin will I switch over - and then it is a crapshot whether Chrome, Firefox or neither has the appropriate HTML5 functions implemented. Last time I tried them out Firefox was incredibly slow to start up (and I don't care for or have not taken the time to learn how to configure the download manager) and Chrome could not display certain things correctly or at all besides a host of other errors/ bugs that did not seem like they were being addressed or even acknowledged by the Google team despite months and months of people filing and confirming error reports.

Sell me (and Forever, since nobody has actually responded to his requests for specific pros & cons as of yet) on it all of you vastly more intelligent l337 browser people.
