The Chinese have done their fair share of spying on us. Before you bash the US for spying from a plane that was in international waters take a look at some of the spying done by the Chinese.

Look at it this way.
We sent in a U2 60 year old tech. It's high flying but not supersonic.
And the great dragon can't even shoot it down or catch it.

How is it war-mongering to fly an unarmed airplane in international airspace? Its not.

I think it is highly likely that it was in fact a Taiwanese U2 spy plane that was detected, the US has sold alot of hardware to Taiwan its an ancient bit of kit, i highly doubt the US is putting old outdated technology such as the U2's over China, its almost laughable, its even more laughable when the mighty dragon can't even intercept it or shot it down, i thought they was "so advanced" its more than obvious its just wishful thinking

It really doesnt matter what the plane is or who it came from.. The flights are in international waters and do not violate Chinese airspace.

Just like they claim the entire South China Sea as their own, China apparently thinks the airspace above it is sovereign as well.

Because they only have one or two of the Block 40s, and are doing their best to send the Block 30s to the Boneyard. The US is cheaper to operate right now than the Block 30s, and have better sensors.

As for the satellite comments, just about every country that a satellite goes over knows exactly when it's going overhead. So anything that they don't want someone to see, just goes into a hangar, or another building, and the satellite will never see it. A U-2, or other recon plane is unpredictable. They'll see it coming on radar, but it might be in enough time to get whatever it is under cover. And at the altitudes a U-2 flies at, their side looking cameras can see a LONG way.

There are Surface to Air Missiles that can hit a U-2, but they generally stay out of range. There hasn't been an uninvited overflight since the 1960s. After Francis Gary Powers was shot down, overflights were banned, although a NASA ER-2 recently made the first overflight of Russia by a U-2 since that time. As for aircraft, just about any can be a threat to a U-2. The Soviets used to use a tactic where a MiG would fly at its maximum altitude, and then when ordered, would hit their afterburners and zoom climb as high as they could and try to fire missiles at them. The two biggest threats were the MiG-25 and the MiG-31.

Taiwan has never owned U-2s. Taiwanese pilots flew them, but they were US owned aircraft. Just because the design is 50 years old doesn't mean it's outdated. There have been dozens of upgrades to the airframe over the years, and the sensors are better than ever. It's STILL the only aircraft that operates in that envelope and does the mission it does. The B-52 just turned 50, and it has major upgrades planned, and will be in service until the 2040 timeframe. Yes, it would be nice to have a newer design, but the upgrades that have been made mean that the U-2 is still an amazing aircraft and will be for years to come.

I just can't see it

The US has things flying out there that they do not and would not ...unless its own very soil was invaded, bring out to play, now considering this was in international airspace, "maybe" it was US operated as it is not expected to be shot down nore would they care very much that a dinosaur was detected and shot down, perhaps they use the up to date technology actually over China, ok some would say but if it is shot down they stand to lose alot, well perhaps they're sure it that it will not be shot down before giving it the missions, after putting in alot of work trying to figure out whether they had anything capable enough to shoot it down, either way THEY NEED A PLANE FOR THAT JOB, and i have no doubt it is flying over China completely undetected,

It is also highly likely considering how much hardware the Taiwanese have spent on US military hardware that they to have been sold the U2's regardless whether or not it is common knowledge i don't think it would be public knowledge that they have been sold them to carry out surveillance on possible military build ups on the Chinese coast, Israel got nukes, in a situation such as this "a bigger threat" from China, i have no doubt they was sold a small number of them

Taiwan can't even buy nearly up to date F-16s (and by up to date I mean early C models), let alone U-2s. Congress would never allow the sale, and they have to ok every sale made to any country. The USAF is planning on flying the U-2 for many more years (2015 if the Global Hawk can get more reliable, and 2020 if not), and has one permanently operating out of Korea. They rotate the airframe through every few months, but they use it for flying past China, and along the North Korea coastline.

Multiple countries, including Taiwan, and England have had pilots fly the U-2 on active missions, but all the aircraft were owned by the United States.

Most people do not understand our history very well. That's a loss for every US citizen. But the fact is -- the US is the number one purveyor of state-sponsored terrorism in the entire world. It's been that way since the end of WW2.
