Just haven´t had the energy to report anything today from the attacks, this is all too tragic.

Death toll now up on 92, terrible witness´ stories emerge as youths talk to the media. Prime minister Stoltenberg is very saddened but determined to carry on, as are all the others in the Norwegian government. Death toll numbers are not definite, unoffical info talks about 20 people missing at Utøya.

Where will this end??

Holy crap! Now, I understand why our country is in a mess. Our problems do not stem from religious and political groups themselves, but more along the lines of extreme practices of those philosophies.

If you go too far philosophically to the right or left, you see the world in a very socialistic and communist manner.

Democrats and Republicans are both guilty.

Norway is a Marxists society that fights its Nazism elements. As a result of these two conflicting belief systems, everyone in the middle gets pulled like a rag doll.

Sounds like the United States.

Innocent people such as these kids are being used in an ideological battle, which has roots that stretch back to the end of World War II.

Whatever this person's ideology, I am not sure he can be said to be a "Neo-Nazi."

According to a rather cursory search, the only political party for which I can find evidence of his affiliation with was the Progress Party of Norway. This is a conservative, anti-immigration, but not "Neo-Nazi" group. In fact, according to the wiki link above:

The Progress Party is the party in Norway that has shown the strongest support for Israel. Recently, it has supported the right of Israel to defend itself against rocket attacks from Hamas (although it underlines that Israel should do what it can to avoid civilian losses),[139] and was the only party in Norway which supported Israel through the Gaza War (2008–09).

Not exactly Neo-Nazi policy, it would seem. Although anti-Islamic sentiment might be a factor in these beliefs. Of course, just because he was a member doesn't mean he adheres lockstep to their stances.

A few other points that auger against a "neo-Nazi" or "White Nationalist" conclusion: He was a Freemanson, and Freemasonry is a big no-no under Nazism. Secondly, as already pointed out in this thread, his list of favorite books contains no books along neo- Nazi/White Nationalist lines, although it does contain a work by Winston Churchill -- not exactly a Nazi hero, and an unusual choice for a strong nationalist.

However, let's not jump to conclusions. My guess is he is probably a lone nut with views that may be all over the place or incoherent. Or at least...unorthodox in some way. It should also be noted that he posted on far-right messageboards with a neo-fascist stance and expressed sympathy for the UK's BNP.

Also of possible interest: I just came across this; I don't know who the source is or how reliable he is, but he has put together what looks like a nice little compendium of evidence shedding some (still very dim) light on Breivik's possible political views:

Since they are jumping around so much, I do not think they know what his beliefs are.

MSNBC's article was kind of confusing. MSNBC called the killer a 'right-wing extremist' Christian, but then they defined him as a 'left-wing' Marxist. Its weird.

When you read through the FoxNews article, they call him a 'right-wing extremist' who had issues with the 'left-wing' political system.

It was a politically motivated attack on 'left-wing' ideologies. Religion was NOT a motivational factor.

The youth group retreat was used to indoctrinate kids into a 'left-wing' society.

It presents a very tragic conundrum, which people will be reflecting on for years.

I would'nt be believing of the American media on this incident and but rather pay more attention to the Norwegian media outlets for a clearer view on the twin attacks.

Considering that half of his screed seems given over to ranting against Marxists, its a fair bet he wouldn't really identify himself as left-wing. Look at the patch on the shoulder in that pic of him posted upthread a bit. It says "Marxist Hunter."

He did actually skip the compulsory millitary service citing that he had to take care of his ill mother, so he did not have any millitary training.

He had some military training, probably part time service and belonged to a shooter's club.

Fact is, this nut job will be out in 21 years. Norway should change laws real fast and give him the maximum for each and every single life he took.

I'd like to share this video - I rather have people spread videos like these instead of his words and the hatred and ignorance of that devil child that did this. If a person takes time to watch this rather than his pics and videos that circulate the web. We won't have lost.
