I am part Cherokee, so don't take this the wrong way. I do understand a lot of the issues when it comes to the government, as do other tribes. However, they need to look at what successful tribes are doing and copy it. They have a rich heritage and history. Why not create a tourist destination and educate people as well as earn an income? A lot of tribes have done this, and some quite successfully. The Seminole, the Cherokee of NC are just two examples. You can play the blame game or you can change. I'm not saying they don't have issues, but you gotta start somewhere and the US Government is never going to live up to it's promises to the American Indians.

Tribes that are doing well are doing casinos.. That takes gaming trust and FED regulations that not all tribes can do. It also comes into per capita which you should know about.

Well, I don't particularly agree with the casinos. I feel their heritage and history should be a much more compelling attraction for tourists. When I vacation and visit tribes, I don't go there to gamble. I go there to learn about them, about their history and traditions. I learned a lot about my ancestors by visiting Cherokee, NC. They have a casino, but it is not the main focus. They have several museums and cultural centers. It is quite refreshing to see them proud of their heritage.

We have a few native museums, but really its not a big busisness.. I contract for a native american company doing work for native casinos mostly but we do anything tribe related. The majority of historical spots i have been to are pretty quiet places with not many guests or visitors. I do surveillance systems, alarms, lighting, networking, IT, eh if its techy i do it.. You can tell alot about a place by what kinda cameras they want lol

I really hope you can figure out how to fix things. i would hate to see another tribe get drawn down on a casino. I think they are better than that.

Well, the last boom tribes had was when they sold most mineral rights (for well less then they where worth)

I dont gamble myself, hate it.. But think of it like this, some reservations the casino employees the tribe.. They live too far out to drive back and forth to bigger areas for work. Some areas its all they have, even the elders.
Sad to say, but tribal politics is a big part of it, just as bad as other politics
