I am part Cherokee, so don't take this the wrong way. I do understand a lot of the issues when it comes to the government, as do other tribes. However, they need to look at what successful tribes are doing and copy it. They have a rich heritage and history. Why not create a tourist destination and educate people as well as earn an income? A lot of tribes have done this, and some quite successfully. The Seminole, the Cherokee of NC are just two examples. You can play the blame game or you can change. I'm not saying they don't have issues, but you gotta start somewhere and the US Government is never going to live up to it's promises to the American Indians.

Tribes that are doing well are doing casinos.. That takes gaming trust and FED regulations that not all tribes can do. It also comes into per capita which you should know about.

Well, I don't particularly agree with the casinos. I feel their heritage and history should be a much more compelling attraction for tourists. When I vacation and visit tribes, I don't go there to gamble. I go there to learn about them, about their history and traditions. I learned a lot about my ancestors by visiting Cherokee, NC. They have a casino, but it is not the main focus. They have several museums and cultural centers. It is quite refreshing to see them proud of their heritage.

We have a few native museums, but really its not a big busisness.. I contract for a native american company doing work for native casinos mostly but we do anything tribe related. The majority of historical spots i have been to are pretty quiet places with not many guests or visitors. I do surveillance systems, alarms, lighting, networking, IT, eh if its techy i do it.. You can tell alot about a place by what kinda cameras they want lol

I really hope you can figure out how to fix things. i would hate to see another tribe get drawn down on a casino. I think they are better than that.

Well, the last boom tribes had was when they sold most mineral rights (for well less then they where worth)

I dont gamble myself, hate it.. But think of it like this, some reservations the casino employees the tribe.. They live too far out to drive back and forth to bigger areas for work. Some areas its all they have, even the elders.
Sad to say, but tribal politics is a big part of it, just as bad as other politics

I thought I destroyed this thread weeks ago...it's still going on?

The title should read poverty in AMERICA includes AC and an Xbox! That's simply the way the cookie crumbles here...sorry folks who are are trying to point the finger at the poor people.

Why don't we change the title to: Modern wealth includes receiving welfare and supporting socialism?

Yes, by being poor in America, you will have access to ac and xboxes...nothing more than environment. Hell there are some people that throw out the such!

You would have to have very narrow tunnel vision to insist someone isn't poor in America, just because they have luxury items. If we dumped all of our trash in Afrika...they would be running around with xboxes and ac units too.

Grab your sack and go pick a fight with someone bigger than you....stop being a coward and picking on those smaller.

40k dollars a year is the poverty cap isnt it?

I have air conditioning and pc and ps3 and am currently making less than 10k dollars a year ,cash and food stamps combined. although i do not own a car.

Most americans in true poverty make the same amount as me. I can not believe 40k is considered poverty. I would consider myself extremely rich making 25k a year.

I guess the reason the poverty cap is so high,is due to rich people not knowing how to manage money and also always wanting more.

This is an excellent article if you're looking to fuel hatred and steer public opinion. It's like the movie Machete, that came out at the height of the illegal immigrant dramas....to throw gas on the fire, so to say (Or like the staged Mexican protester with the sign 'I'll kill your cops if you don't give me free health care'...while Mexican drugs lords (paid for by the U.S. government, of course!) were killing people in AZ and American citizens/veterans in need were turned down for simple help. It's a psychological operation.

I don't know many middle class people with an X Box or AC, let alone Playstation. I've never wasted my money on the garbage supposedly included in that survey. I live in Michigan. Most of the poor in Detroit do not have AC, and XBox, playstation, home internet or any of that either. Who ARE they talking about? How many ATS people personally know poor people who have all that stuff? I don't own any of that and wouldn't waste MY money on it. I'm not even an inch jealous. Is that what's important? An XBox, Playstation, central Air? We have 3 months of summer up here....most homes don't come equipped with AC) Are you kidding me?

The article and study is meant to manipulate you like puppets!
And did it, ever!

Well done!
