Wow, looks like the republicans have a candidate who has some original ideas. I don't know anything about him, but I think he is right on this subject.

old.news.yahoo.com...

Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain said Sunday that communities have a right to ban Islamic mosques.

Appearing on "Fox News Sunday," the former Godfather's Pizza CEO said protests and legal challenges to a planned mosque in Tennessee city are an example of local residents pushing back.
Cain said his view doesn't amount to religious discrimination because he says Muslims are trying to inject Shariah law into the U.S.

Shariah is a set of core principles that most Muslims recognize and a series of rulings from religious scholars. It covers many areas of life and different sects have different versions and interpretations of the code.
Asked if his view could lead any community to stand up in opposition to a proposed mosque, Cain replied, "They could say that." He pointed to opposition to the planned mosque in Murfreesboro, Tenn., as an example.
"Let's go back to the fundamental issue that the people are basically saying that they are objecting to," Cain said. "They are objecting to the fact that Islam is both religion and (a) set of laws, Shariah law. That's the difference between any one of our other traditional religions where it's just about religious purposes.

Cain's got a point, Islam isn't just a religion, it also consists of required law and seeks to establish a state within a state, and this shouldn't be allowed. It is about time someone came out and said the obvious.

Our laws state that their should be a separation between church and state, but Islam is a religion that refuses to separate church and state, so it essentially exists to override our own laws, and the principles our nation was founded on.

Freedom of religion, should not mean that anyone who disagrees can kick you out of their state or town. I do not know what else to say. I do not agree with Christians calling everything a sin and trying to shut down the porno shop, but they have a right to try. Same with the Muslims. They can try.

If we don't have the right to ban Westboro Baptist completely, then we don't have the right to ban mosques.

What he doesn't understand is that his own attitudes could be turned back around on him in terms of many churches. I've never been to a conservative Protestant church that completely ignores politics.

Muslims calling for Sharia law isn't that different from many Christians wanting the ten commandments to be everywhere.

agreed in canada here where i am there so many mosques that alot of euporeans are leaving the city because of it its scary when you look it at and what they are trying to do with the mosques.

Now in toronto they are already building the biggest mosque and the alot of Muslims aren't following the modern but are staying in there traditions which is alot scary.

People cant do anything about it

There are few churches now in toronto but alot of mosques.

It all depends on the "brand" of Islam. Just like bible-thumper beliefs, there are a zillion different interpretations of Islam, some are fine and some are very dangerous.

Banning a mosque is a bad way to put it. Banning a group (this one happens to be Muslim) that hides behind a religion to undemocratically usurp existing laws is a better way of seeing it.

And we should crack down on churches that practice politics as far as I am concerned.

Worship any god your choose, but when you start getting politically active, then shut em down.

Actually Muslims calling for Sharia law is VERY different from christians wanting the ten commandments to be everywhere. the only way it would be similar is if Christians advocated the 'honour killing' of the people who break the commandments.

I agree that Westboro Baptist are a prime example of a religious movement needing to be banned but in reality, despite the media attention they get, they are not in the same ballpark as Islam. The fact is though, as someone has alreayd said; there are many interpretations of Islam some good and some very bad, but the bottom line is it should be about stopping religions that oppress. If banning Mosques might aid in this act then I am all for it, although I think they could be more 'clever' about it, rather than ban just limit the number of places of religious worship that can be built in any one area thereby limiting all religions the same, that way it doesnt come across like they are bullying Islam specifically.

Still, the nature of Islam is to further its own cause and banning the burka in France and banning the Mosques here will make no difference, they will find another way.

So much for personal freedoms. Banning mosques is the dumbest idea I've heard in awhile. Not even a topic I would waste my time debating, I mean just read the constitution, you cant ban a religion lol.

YES! My idea exactly!
When a religion, like Islam becomes politically active, it should be shut down. Be it the Jewish religion, Christian or other. I see this happening here in Europe, they come in, build some mosques and the Islamic communities stagger in growth and then they start holding political rallies and form political parties. Politics has no room for religious sentiment as it paves the way for various interest groups to have the politicians sway in their favor.

My 0.2 of course.

Hello Everyone:
I heard about Mr. Cain's Ideas about banning Mosques. I find this ridicules. We are a country of freedom and was founded to be against religious persecution, in any form. I live in Tennessee and and I don't agree with what their trying to do in Murfreesboro. I just think its crazy to say no to a Mosques and yes to a synagogues, churches, or tabernacles. Just does not seem right to me.

I liked Mr. Cain, thought he would bring some good ideas to Washington, but now I am having second thoughts about looking at him as a presidential option.

Islam isn't a religion, it is an invading force masquerading as a religion.

We need to write new laws dealing with Islam, and its nefarious ways.

Things like honor killings, rapes of local girls, and forcing women to cover themselves should be treated like the criminal acts they are in full defiance of our beliefs and way of life. Mass numbers should be arrested, and mosque shut down when activities are found that aim to subvert local governments.

Either we take action or we will soon have the problems they are dealing with in Europe, India, Central Asia, Africa, and else where.

I don't know if we should totally shut em down, but definitely remove their tax exempt status. I'll give Christians that many of them seem to ultimately want to keep Western law generally intact, whereas the whole Sharia law thing with Muslims is wanting to remove Western culture altogether for the most part. I've also seen it pointed out that a moderate Muslim is generally at the same point as a fundamentalist Christian when it comes to many social issues.

If I were to Found a Town... I would make an Edict that there are to be NO RELIGIOUS members allowed.

Do I have a right to do so? YES.
Do they have a right to try and move in and complain? NO.

Management has the right to refuse service to ANYONE.
Do you see people going to Mecca and complaining there isn't a local Buddhist Temple there? NO.

You don't like it? You can farg off.

Sure people are just going to try and twist my words and say the same thing can be said for Races.
Yes it can. This is the world we live in and you all have to get used to it.
Do you see people going to China Town and complaining there isn't a Uncle Sam's Army Recruitment Post? NO.

These are called Destinations. A place you go to specifically for one reason or another.

I wouldn't go to McDonalds and ask for a 500g steak. - I wouldn't go to McDonalds period, but that is a different matter.

PC can go farg itself.

YES! Ban the Mosque... But you fail because you haven't banned the religion from entering your city.
So you will have complainers.

It is exactly the same as neighborhood communities dictating you can only use their Fibre Network Internet connection.
You don't have a choice... Wait... You do... DON'T MOVE TO THAT NEIGHBORHOOD.

.: EDIT :.
Just went to Wiki to verify major religion in Mecca and found;

Mecca is regarded as the holiest city in Islam.[3] More than 13 million Muslims visit Mecca annually, including several million who perform the Hajj (pilgrimage).[4] As a result, Mecca has become one of the most cosmopolitan and diverse cities in the Muslim world.[5] Non-Muslims are prohibited from entering the city.

Wiki - Mecca

Case and point....

No, your wrong. Period.

I lived in a small village in Morroco (a Muslim country) for a month. It is a religion, they don't kill people over it where I was either. The most important belief in their religion is the same as Christianity, the belief in one God. As a white American, I experienced more hospitality there than anywhere in the US I've visited or anywhere I've visited in the rest of the world for that that matter. You just here about extremists when in reality most Muslims are like you and I.

THANK YOU!!!! I'm sick of everyone tarnishing all muslims with same brush, it is because people are ill educated on the religion and go by the image the media has created for muslims, I grew up in London and spent ALOT of time with ALOT of muslim friends and people and not once did they try to impose any laws or ideologies on anyone.
