Seems like fighting in Iraq is getting even more intense with hundreds of persons getting killed in only two days.

Reuters

NAJAF, Iraq (Reuters) - U.S. marines have killed an estimated 300 fighters loyal to a firebrand Iraqi Shi'ite cleric in fierce clashes around the holy city of Najaf in the past two days, a senior U.S. officer said Friday...

...The U.S.-appointed governor of Najaf put the militia death toll at 400, with 1,000 captured. He said he had information that 80 Iranians were fighting alongside Sadr's militia....

...Tension has been rising in Najaf since Iraqi security forces surrounded Sadr's house earlier this week.

U.S. marines recently replaced the U.S. Army in Najaf and analysts have suggested the upsurge in violence is linked to the marines taking a more aggressive approach with Sadr's militia...

Things just don't seem to be calming down over there.
I think people will keep fighting until all of the troops are gone.

Yep your are probably right. We also better hope that they are stable by that time cause we don't want to have a repeat of how the Ba'ath party came into power in the first place.

very good news
,I wish I was first with that news but you were better.

mahdi militia is much more worse then sunni fighters. They are very poor trained and I suppose that it's better to call them "rioters" then insurgents. Most of them are young poor and poor-educated people. They are not regular "fighters".In recent months they suffered very significant loses in fights with US Forces.

I wish to hear this kind of news from Fallujah for example. But fallujah fighters are much more experienced and they are not an easy target.

but what is better - The interim government declared war on all illegal militias and vowed that the offensive in Najaf would be extended elsewhere.

I hate to hear when anyone is killed but at least these arent civilians or our troops.

These are people who in a few months after we leave are goin to try to over throw the govt. So anyone who sees this as a bad thing please realize that this might prevent a future civil war in Iraq.

I think things are becoming more calm there. Yes there is some death and fighting but i dont think it is anymore then should be expected in a country that is occupied.

And think about this. It hasnt been on the news that much (well to the degree it was a couple months ago) This is prime bush bashin time and the news networks no this. And when the liberal news cant find any really bad new that hints the war over there is goin at least alil better

Well it was reported on the BBC (an unbiased news source that is pro-US, going toting, 'we're patriots!' like FOX) that most of the 300 killed were actually civilians. No surprise from the trigger happy US army and it's shoot anything that moves policy.

Also, Quicksilver, US media is not 'liberal'. All US news agencies are owned by ultra rich conservatives.

Eddie if you think that the BBC is conservative that just proves that you are so biased you are incapable of clear thinking.

Yup, the U.S Army keeps a tally of the civilians killed in action. That is important for our Fascist president and his evil conservative hell spawn minions. He puts the notches on his gun.

Also if you can actually say that TED TURNER is a conservative then well...
it would just prove that YOU shoot before thinking.

I said that that the BBC was ubiased, can't you read? The U.S doesn't record civilian casualities either as they are not concerned about them. They refer to them as collateral damage.

Of course you are right....they want the U.S. gone, and the U.S. firmly intends to stay..

300 tangos' down in 2 days? Semper Fi, Marines, Carry on.

WeB Devil?? OOOOOORRRAAH!

Eddie, the BBC is very biased is what I was saying. Saying 300 civilians were killed furthers their agenda.

We killed some bad guys and gave them what they want, a head start on their 72 black eyed virgins.

We don't judge anyone. That is God's job. We are just setting up the face to face.

This story saddens me a little...

After hearing on the news several times it is always "300+ insurgents killed in 2 days"

How about 300+ PEOPLE killed in 2 days.

There's just no way I would go to Iraq to fight, draft or no.. Hmm lets see.. you're sending me half way across the planet to shoot some kid in a alley with an AK? How is he threatening America or me while Im at home and going to work!? Those 300 'insurgents' wouldnt be insurging if the US wasnt over there.

It's lose/lose for the US & Iraq.

This is great news, it could only be surpassed by a headline reading "U.S. Marines kill 3,000 insurgents in 1 day"

The object of war is to kill, and as stated by, Patton I think, the object of war is NOT to die for your country, but to make the other bastard die for his.

Lead, Follow, or Get Out Of the Way.

Calculon,

Mohamed Atta was that kid in the alley once.

See the big picture. That area is a petrie dish growing terrorists at an alarming rate.

Bush went over to put the lid on it. And before you freak about "If we weren't there..."

1993 they try to take the towers down.
Khobar Towers
The USS Cole.
The Kenya and Tanzania embassies.

They hated us long before Bush was on the scene.

Simple answer - the insurgents (freedom fighters) are of no threat to you. They are defending their homeland against US aggression, and rightly so. You'd do the same if you were an Iraqi and the US invades, kills around 13 000 civilians, detains hundreds in prisions indefinately, where they are tortured daily. Most people in this situation would take up arms against the invaders.

Also, gattaca, saying it is fine news that 500 people were murdered makes you sound like a sadist. As does saying 'The object of war is to kill',smokenmirrors.

crmanager - saying this:

We killed some bad guys and gave them what they want, a head start on their 72 black eyed virgins.

We don't judge anyone. That is God's job. We are just setting up the face to face.

shows you have absolutely no knowledge of Koranic teachings. And as for the whole God judging thing...well...I won't start on that.

FOX news is Redneck News for gun toting hicks and BBC is Blairs Broadcasting Channel for the socialist nutcase left.

Exactly! How in the hell are we battling terrorism by killing a bunch of people who never even planned on setting foot in the US?

Oh, I see. You have this all figured out. All we have to do is kill them all, right? That way it's not possible for them to become terrorists? You're one sick bastard, you know that?
With that attitude, I think there's a chance you might intentionally harm someone, someday. Maybe we should go ahead and end your life before you become a threat to anyone.

Damned....

Well. I think I hit a sore spot. I have never been told to kill myself before.

By the way, they started it. We are gonna finish it. Do you remember the fact that Atta came in on a U.S. visa? I think he planned to come to U.S. soil.

Those little fellers killed 3000 U.S citizens and allies and never set foot over here. Does that mean we don't go after them?

I get it. Just cover your eyes and it all goes away!!!! Vote for Kerry then.

I wouldnt go to a forgien country and start bombing them, but if they invade america, of course i would bomb them to get them out of my country. So does that mean they have the right to come kill me because I might attack them if they invade our country??

Do we even have any evidence of Iraqis (not just people in Iraq) have attacked the US directly? Mohammed Atta wasnt a kid in Iraq like you said, I think he was from Saudi Arabia... a country which we barely even questioned about 9/11.

The people in Iraq are just that.. people. Im sure they would rather go back to whatever rather than fighting the US Troops in their country. True there may be some 'bad guys' over there, but does that mean you mow down anyone with a gun that isnt US.

And some things DO go away when you ignore them.. Angry bees flying around you? Don't swat them, just let them be and they wont bother you. Now if the bees are secretly building a nuclear reactor to work on nuclear weapons thats a different story!

We're never going to kill all of the terrorists.... the more you kill, the more it creates.

Not to let you down here or anything..but for a draft, without a REALLY good reason you have two choices: 1) Fight for the u.s. 2) Go to Federal Prison. LoL it's your call buddy..

1) Fight for the u.s.
---Really depends on what the US is fighting for.

Yeah, thanks for the info. I might be past the draft age (late 20's). So i guess if it comes down to it, Helllooooo Canada.. I'm just talking about the current Iraq situation now, though... If the circumstances were different, load me up and point me at the bad guys!
