Harold Camping, the 89-year-old leader whose study of the Bible convinced him and his followers that the world would end, has been described by his wife as "flabbergasted" that the apocalypse didn’t start over the weekend. There are some red faces out there. And if that's all it had been, then one could argue no great harm had been done.
But while Camping and his followers try to figure out what went wrong (or right) — with news Monday night that he now says Judgment Day will come on Oct. 21 — the failed prophecy did more than just damage Camping's credibility: It also appears to have caused death and serious injury to true believers.
A California woman named Lyn Benedetto was one of millions who heard Camping's message, and became concerned that her daughters would suffer terribly in the coming apocalypse. She allegedly forced her daughters, 11 and 14, to lie on a bed and then cut their throats with a box cutter. She then tried to kill herself, though police arrested Benedetto and all three survived.
for his words and actions did cause the death an attempted death of others, what do you think?? i say yes, before he brings out the cool aid.
manslaughter, homicide committed without justification or excuse but distinguished from murder by the absence of the element of malice aforethought. Modern criminal statutes usually divide it into degrees, the most common distinction being between voluntary and involuntary manslaughter. Voluntary manslaughter is a killing done in the heat of passion provoked by acts of the victim such as to cause a reasonable man to act rashly and without reflection. Such provocation may include violent assault and an unlawful attempt to arrest him, but not mere insulting words or gestures. Involuntary manslaughter is a killing in which there is no intention to kill at all. It occurs when the killing is the result of the commission of a crime that is neither a felony nor an act likely to cause great bodily harm or when it is the result of a lawful act done in a criminal manner, e.g., a case of negligence. The advent of the automobile caused many manslaughter cases that arise from reckless and careless driving; in the statutes of some states of the United States such killing is a separate crime.
maybe we should then this type of nut case would think twice about it it is one thing to yes it could happen, and the way he put it "it will happen" when you use that kind of wording then you open up a can of worms that should not be opened, Jim Jones comes to mind David Koresh is an other have we not had enough of them?? i have, and this man is no different in my mind, lets say 0ct 21 comes and goes nothing happens he comes out and says "you must take your own life" no that he would say it but how many would do it be cause they are devout followers???
well i thought my reply "maybe we should" covered that silly me, any time some one takes his /her life by some one else words actions should be brought to the court of law ,we have it here if you say/ post something wrong you get the end result do you not? you get punished, that goes for the gov /state loc. corp or individual

There have always been weak minded people and there always will be.Camping is guilty of nothing as I see it. People kill themselves every day because of something the government says or does to them. The government should be charged before Camping as the government is suppose to be an over seer of the people and their agents. When they lie to us and cause harm they would be the first to go after instead of a Camping....Just goes to show you that religion is no good and only cause strife and wars and will continue to until people see it for what it is. A tool to control others, and thats all.... There are a few weak minded peeps here at ATS but do we want to charge them for having a weak mind and string them up by the nuts? Well, maybe, but it wouldn't be right either....lol....
