I've always said the difference between a cat and a dog is this. A 150lb dog still looks to his master to be taken care of. A 150lb cat will try to kill and eat you. Cats are natural predators, they will become familiar with you but in the end if they could you would be dinner. That is the attraction of a cat. They will not be controlled. They are strong willed and wild.

If my orange tabby could smile....that is what he would look like. Rudy, my cat, loves to jump in my lap when he wants to be petted and rub his cheek on my face. I always think it is his way of hugging me.

He's a little man, in a cat's body

I was going to add a Youtube vid to this thread, but apparently it has been removed due to copyright infringement. Anyways, here are the lyric's. Aside from the name, this is my cat.

Jane's Addiction: 'My Cat's Name Is Maceo'

My cat's name is Maceo
He's a little man in a cats body
Well, he yawns just like I do
He's convinced, I won't eat him

I think, he thinks that I'm his dad
'Cause I saved him from the pound
Well we went down. Down to the pound
and that's where we saw Maceo

Cat catcher said to me
"Go ahead and pick one out"
Maceo said, "let me out"
He sleeps right where I do
and we wrestle in the morning

He comes to you if you don't bother him
He just likes to do his own thing
My cat's name is Maceo
He's a little man in a cat's body

~The song can be heard for free on this Yahoo page.~

Here's a few other odd facts about cats.

• Cats have a third eyelid.
• Cats rub against you to show affection and mark you with their scent.
• The domestic cat can sprint at 30 miles per hour.
• Cat urine glows under a black light.
• The heaviest cat on record weighed 46 pounds.

I've always loved cats. They seem to find me, pick me out to take care of them too! I love all animals, but I do have a particular fondness for the felines! It's also been said that cats get along well with women, and I think that's very true!

Great thread. One of my favorite maxims about cats is:

Feed a dog and he will think "He feeds and takes care of all my needs, he must a God!"
Feed a cat and he will think " He feeds me and takes care of all my needs. I must be a God"
LOL That pretty much sums up how cats think.

I love my cat, even as old and cantakerous as she is. People who come over usually say "Oh your cat is so friendly" and I usually say "Yes, but only until she isnt. It can change at any moment, pet at your own risk" LOL

only recently got a cat..

one thing I've notice is that at night her eyes are really big but during the day they look really evil..

but I don't know what i did before I got her

I 'love' my Feral (that's her name because she's half feral) but only as much as current laws allow

on the down side.. I know she's only borrowing me and that i don't own her in the traditional sense

but for as long as she lets me.. I'll be there for her

Found this picture of Rudy as you can see he leads a charmed life. He runs around all night long and then drags in early in the morning to sleep all day
Rudy gets along great with my shih tzu and pug tzu. Now my cockatiel, Corona and parakeet, Pearl---aren't too crazy about him .

3. Cats start to purr at one week old and can do so continually as they inhale and exhale.

Sooner than that! I've had a 2 day old kitten purr when I was helping the litter.

Cats are not decendents from the big African wild cats.
Cats are decendents from the African wild cat that is the
same size as your domestic cat. The African wild cat
is a tabby, that is why the the big percentage of domestic
cats are tabbies.Cats are not evil.It is a persona presented
by ignorance and supersticous inuendo.
Cats are the most mistreated and most misunderstood
domestic animal in this country. There is an estimated
175 million feral cats in this country. All due to owner neglect.
I operate a private family owned cat rescue sanctuary
for the homeless street cats and see there misery every day.
If anyone is interested in discussing this in a serious Adult manner
I will be more than happy to provide some more information.

Thank you grumble for your kind words. I may do a thread on the
plight of the domestic animals in this country but right now I cant
devote the proper ammount of time to an accurate presentation or
a back and forth disscussion. I lecture at a few Universities on this
subject and right now my calendar is quite full.

i think cats are great i just dont agree with the idea of indoor cats. had 3 growing up and the olny one that reamins at my parents house is back to being an outdoor cat. if and when i do have a house in the woods i will have a nice pack of outdoor cats. cats need to be outside, be able to hunt and kill and prowl. cats ARE evil and i love it. the dont hide it and thats imtimidating to some people. friend of mine had two of the best cats that ever lived and they were like a team. i saw them litteraly scare the # out of a 100lbs german sheppard but stalking it untill it ran away with its tail between its legs

Haha, I love cats. I've had many in my life and I miss each of them

The cat I have now is kind of a fatty. Well, she looks like one anyways, she's got a lot of fur and loves to eat.
Yet she was the runt hehe.
No worries though, she's on a special diet so she wont get TOO fat.
