Also by countries with more people.
Canada has a population of what, 30, 40 million? We have 300 million.

I don't think the number is disproportionate. We have 300 million people and a murde rate of about 5 per capita. Russia's per capita rate is 300% higher. They have very strict gun laws and as a result far fewer legal guns. Yet more people get killed every day there than here.

“We don’t have as many guns [in Brazil] as the United States, but we use them more.” That was the assertion of Rubem César Fernandes. He leads the governmental agency in Brazil that studies gun crime. They had some of the strictest gun laws in the hemisphere. Then they went and banned all sales of handguns to civilians. Their murder rate is nearly 450% higher than the US.

America has a problem with violence. However, guns are not a disproportionate amout of the issue. They just get more coverage. It is kind of like people pushing to ban "assault weapons" despite the fact you are 11 times more likely to get beat to death than killed with an "assault weapon." The media tends to distort things.

That is even more true these days. With news making less money a lot of what you hear and see is just a copy of a press release or another reporter's work. There is a staggering lack of actual journalism in America and the world these days.
