Just a cleansing of our exposure ...and reorienting our expectations.

Walk down any street - lots of "ugly" fat people. Now there's a negatively-profiled, denigrated visible majority. ...I keep waiting for the anti-obesity eugenics legislation. Wait!... it's already started!

On a more serious note, I dont think there is such as thing as ugly, there is only preference. Sometimes it is biased due to peer pressure etc but only an indivdual knows what they truly find attractive or not.

We do seem to be evolving.

But couldn't it be because of more of a focus on physical beauty - - and beautiful people hooking up with beautiful people - - producing the next generation of beautiful people?

Peer pressure is a real phenomena.

I've pointed it out to women who are not considered "beautiful" before. That some very nice looking guy, who thinks he's all attracted to the peer-pressure norm, but his body language and manner actually show that he's attracted to her - the "not-as-attractive" woman.

Guys can be so dumb - what's wierder than going for the pretty girls who doesn't do it for you just because you think that it'll get you cache with other guys. There is something seriously hinkey about that.



Oh, and I've been right. When I point it out, and people follow up on it, those people end up together. Sometimes they've even gotten married. Or later on, Mr.HotShot gets together with Ms.AllThat, but later divorces or cheats on her with someone very similar to Ms.WhatHe'sReallyAttractedTo.

I know.....this totally goes against the norm. Guys are always going on about how WOMEN are being "programmed" by expectations. But then, they don't seem to realize that while they might find Ms.PornTastic nice to look at, what he really wants is something very different and doesn't even KNOW it because it isn't advertized.

Oh...Like Willie Nelson has any room to talk about how someone looks. I mean, shampoo and razors were invented for a reason.

Sadly, the earth can't be cleansed of 'ugly' human beings. (pun intended)

It's a real shame that so much emphasis is placed on looks, and even worse when the term "ugly" is directed at a new-born baby. A person who is thought of as being "beautiful" in one part of the world, might not be as appealing in another. In some cultures men prefer a woman with a neck two feet long, and throughout her growing years she will add rings around her neck to keep is stretched out. Other cultures thought tiny, stumpy feet were a sign of great beauty, and girls were made to suffer the agonizing torture of having their feet "bound", in order to prevent their growth. There's a tribe in Africa whose women have huge asses that jut out horizontally, giving me the impression of card tables or beer trays, but they drive their men crazy. Here in the western parts of the world, beauty is dictated by the fashion and cosmetic industries, and what might be considered "beauty" one year, could be thought of as being a turn-off sexually the next. If I seem confused, it's because I am. I have to agree with the op regarding how today's babies look. I don't consider any baby as being "ugly", but it does seem that babies are looking more and more like little girls' "dolls" as the years roll by. May it's simply evolution, and as babies in some countries are born more and more facially appealing, those in other countries are being born with longer necks, bigger asses, and maybe some day certain tribesmen will be born with plates in their lower lips. Beauty truly is in the eye of the beholder, and when it comes to having sex, turn out the lights and who really cares?

Your idea seems intrigueing, but I beleive it's false. You see the last thing they'd want is more competition, more perfection, and there's more competition in their little world, competition is a bad thing. If anything I would think they'd try and do the opposite to the normal public, and keep their babies perfect, but that's just me.

I've seen plenty of physically ugly young people. Or just plain ordinary looking. I don't think there's any pro beauty conspiracy here.

Granted there is slight change, could this be down to the mixing or ethnicities and races. Most Western countries really are a melting pot made up of every people. Immigration is massive. So you'd have alot of different genes mixing and creating healthier better looking babies in theory, no? Isn't that how it works?

I'll buy that we tend to be evolving in an aesthetic sense, and that younger humans tend to be a bit prettier than I remember us (myself and my contemporaries) being.

But, having said that, honestly I have seen some god awful, Gollum looking chud babies over the last few years. And, related, why is it that the mothers of the ugly ones are always the ones with 200 pictures of their kid, and who keep asking "Isn't he/she just adorable???". It's like they know and they just want someone else to validate their suspicions so that they can finally say "Oh, thank God, I thought it was just me who was freaked out by the little Gandhi looking beast!"
