I never really like hippies. The scums of the Earth acting like their all about peace, love, and harmony and then on the other hand want to bum whatever you have and if you don't confirm to their ways then you're evil. I hate hippies!

Ironic. Your troll agenda of hatred is against T&C. just thought I'd let you know.

I always wanted to be a hippie but I was five years too young. I have some old hippie friends that live up in the hills. They've been selling and installing windplants for over thirty years. They grow their own, everything. These people are responsible, they take care of their land, they're good stewards. I don't know any of the other kind of hippies, the dirty, smelly, irresponsible ones. Back in the 60's I knew people like that, I believe those days are long gone.

Geez, where to start........

They have dirty hair and feet, smell like 5 day old cabbage that's been left out in the sun (and that's the "women"), have 5 kids each who they let run rampant whilst they zombie out on their pot induced buzz which was paid for by my taxes through welfare because they don't believe in working for "the man".

They follow me around the shopping centre trying to sell me hemp bracelets and tye dyed shirts and tell me we should all be living like those giants blue smurfs from that Avatar movie and that mother nature will provide everything we need if we "just return to her bossom".

If that's the case then why do i see you all down at the local government office every fortnight handing in your papers to get MY tax money that could be better spent on our struggling hospital and education systems.

The only contribution they make towards the local community is as a food source for the mosquito population that blows in from the mangroves every night.

CUT YOUR GOD DAMN TOE NAILS AND GET A JOB!

Troll hatred? I never heard that one before. The OP asked what is wrong with hippies and I stated my cause against the scum. Don't blame me for speaking the truth against scum hippies.

Seems we had many in the 1960s and 1970s and nothing happened. There are still wars, deaths, pollutions and so fourth. Hippies thank you for not achieving anything at all!

Many labels have many different meanings to everyone, like art.
"Beauty is in the eye of the beholder."
And yes, people people do change over time, as do the times we live in.
To me, hippy is not just a person, it was a time, and a way of thinking. That has long past away.
When people cared about the envirorment, world peace and equal rights for all.
The hippy movement got america out of VietNam , and fought for civil rights for blacks and women and won.
And if those are bad things, then I am guilty of being a hippy.

One old Hippie Dude to another, we also spawned the Far Left, the Terrorist Group the Weather Underground and the Socialist / Communists control freaks now in the White House.

I considered myself a Hippie and a Peace Activist. I was disillusioned as I grew the hell up and realized that those of us who simply wanted Peace and a right to be ourselves were drowned out by the violent Anarchists and crazed control freak Progressives from the Alinsky followers.

In reality there were two groups. Real Hippies and the fakers from the extreme Left who want complete control. Sadly they are our legacy and now control the schools and government. Ironically many became rich using Capitalism and they are the most powerful and vocal.

Hippie is not a simple subject. Many were just kids, acting like kids before they developed critical thinking skills. Those who continued past that age are for the most part phonies with a dark agenda like Ayers.

Lets revisit this in another generation shall we

We gave you the freedom to dress weird. In our day they threw you out of school for dressing badly or inappropriately. You could not get a job if you did not dress right.

We gave you the freedom to put holes in yourselves and for men to wear earrings and jewelry. I still have the scar from a cyst in my ear that blew the back of my earlobe out. Wait until you get older and some of you pay for those holes

We introduced the inclusion of previously banned literature in Libraries and Schools.

Women no longer had to wear dresses to school or kneel on the floor to make sure their skirts touched the floor.

We gave you Platform Shoes, which we should have been scorned for. Mine lasted an hour before I realized only an idiot would wear such uncomfortable crap.

We gave you Bell Bottoms with legs so long you tripped over them while you walk.

We were non-violent, at least the real ones were.

We gave you the vote at 18.

Bow before your Hippie Masters

Never! I guess that is correct. I was a Hipster which is the current hippie in today's slandered. That is why I hate hippies. I hated being who I was as a person because all we did was drink, smoke, play music, make out and what not. The outfits we're crazy and looking back I don't know what I was thinking. I live in California so you can understand.

Nothing wrong with a little of that when you are young. It's what you do after you grow up that matters. Wild Oats need to be sown and then you get down to the business of surviving.

I don't get this picture at all. I know those words but the pictures and the way the words are used do not make any sense to me.

Well I'm trying to mature. Jumping in to this head first and not caring about the wounds and previous scars of my past. I can tell you being a Hipster seems to bring out all the Asians you never knew lived by you.

Basically it means, just keep on keepin on. Not any clearer? I guess a good way to say it is be yourself, no matter who you are. Keep on Truckin! We all had a poster of that on our walls along with Peace Signs and Black Light Posters; not to mention a Lava Lamp around. OH! and you must have a Janice Joplin Poster!

Me, I liked the red, white and blue flag shirts with a pair of striped bell bottoms.

I'm proud of being a hippie. I served my time in the military, where I was truly exposed to the sex, drugs and rock and roll ethos and continued to this day. I am a capitalist entrepreneur and have made obscene amounts of money, driven exotic cars and lived the good life, traveled the world and met many fine people, famous people but...

If being a hippie means being a loving, caring, individual that enjoys the finer things in life; then I plead guilty.

All the hippie haters, making broad generalizations, on this thread give off a distinctly "sexually frustrated" vibe!

Please don't mention how my room looked when I was younger. I still have the Gigantic John Lennon poster with the lyrics to imagine.

Just Keep on Truckin. It will be alright. We thought the Adults had ruined the whole world and the whole country would come down around us at any moment. Same stuff, different time.

We had Atom Bombs to worry about, the imminent attack by the Soviet Union, the War in Vietnam, evil Capitalism and all that to worry about. Sound familiar? This current time is a repeat except the violent riots have not started yet. We survived.

Most come to their senses about the time they start to think of having a family and future. Oddly enough I read a study last year that concluded we don't fully develop our critical thinking skills until around age 25 when the last part of our brain develops fully. At 18 we thought we were such adults and the real adults were just stupid people ruining the world, but we were just kids acting like kids.

Are you serious? 25? I have 4 more years to go. That's interesting. I know what you mean. In California if you're young and not a Leftist then I can tell you to get out of the way of the bulls. Still today majority of the Conservatives of Right Wingers are very old or elderly. There is a huge generation gap in California on politics. The internet and propaganda also plays a huge role.
